Personal Doctoral Narrative of Progression
This course is the first in a long journey towards earning my Doctor of Education. Completion of the first course has enabled me to develop and improve in many areas, while also allowing me to gain a clear understanding of the requirements for success. In addition to the growth and improvement I have encountered thus far, I am certain a great deal more will occur as I progress through this program. The journey to completion is long, but I am committed to reaching my goal. I believe that the best way to gain a thorough understanding of any topic is through action. I plan to take action in reviewing current research and implementing successful theories in my classroom in an effort to create positive changes in the educational field. For example, I have often experienced struggle in motivating students, and as a result the academic achievement of my students has somewhat declined. I will continue to research scholarly articles over improving student motivation and put recommended techniques into practice in my classroom. One cannot begin to be a good teacher, without respecting students as individuals and understanding that each student’s life experiences have shaped who they are. My personal philosophy of ethics affects my forward movement in my career as well as my goals because my ethics guide me on a daily basis. As a teacher, I respect my students, I see them as individuals, and they in turn respect me and work hard for me. I teach primarily troubled students with violent pasts. These students often have a poor reputation and other teachers in my school district have experienced great difficulty and little success in teaching these students. I treat these students with respect, kindness, and non-judgment and in turn, my students respect me and experience academic success. As I continue my education in pursuit of my doctorate, I will pass on my personal code of ethics and the positive experiences it has brought me to other teachers, and by doing so improve
