Why I Have Chosen to Become a Teacher
Happiness is not about being filthy rich, or by how many designer clothes I can wear, happiness is about making a difference in the lives of the future. It will be such an awarding experience to go daily to a place of work and feel as though I truly belong.
Many people do not realize that if it weren’t for teachers, we would not have doctors, lawyers, and many professions that greatly depend on the guidance of their teachers to enrich their lives. A semantic memory process is provided only in school, that will follow students throughout their lives.
Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it will be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn.
My educational ethics toward each student will be to emphasis that everyone is an individual, they are all special and unique in their own way, and that every student does not learn on the same level. I hope my students will treat each other the way they want to be treated, and respect those that may be less fortunate. It will be wonderful to put back into the community a well-rounded individual that may make a difference in the life of someone else.
The philosophy of essentialism is important to me, although I feel students can still relate to school in a positive way. Students can learn the core subjects—reading, writ...

...n the classroom is very important. I would encourage each student that they are capable of whatever they desire, whether to grow up to be the first woman president, an astronaut, fireman, or a cashier; along with those dreams they must know that all of their dreams start in the classroom with their education. I will also teach them that whatever they desire in their future, to be the best they can be.
I desire to continue my education after graduating from State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education, possibly majoring in science or history. With a teaching profession, the sky is the limit at what can be achieved. Who knows, I may one day change the life of a little person who grows up just like I did, and discovers that THEY TO CAN HAVE IT ALL! A family and a rewarding career in education.
On July 11th, 1975 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin a doctor by the name of Lester V. Salinsky, performed a surgery on the plaintiff, James Johnson. The surgery was took place at Misericordia Community Hospital (Misericordia), defendant, by Dr. Salinsky. Dr. Salinsky was scheduled to remove a pin fragment from the plaintiff’s right hip. However, “during the course of this surgery, the plaintiff’s common femoral nerve and artery were damaged causing a permanent paralytic condition of his right thigh muscles with resultant atrophy and weakness and loss of function” (Johnson v. Misericordia Community Hospital, n.d.). The plaintiff filed suit against Dr. Salinksy and Misericorida on October 13th, 1976, fifteen months after his unsuccessful surgery, which
According to the Bradley Center v. Wessner, Georgia statutory law does not address the so-called duty to warn, Georgia does have a legal precedent as defined by case law that establishes a duty to protect identifiable third parties (Doverspike, 2007). The practitioners basically got in trouble because they had a patient in inpatient who the physician failed to exercise control over and the patient ended up hurting someone he made a threat against. Another case represents the undefined duty to warn. Garner v. Stone (1999) a six person jury in a DeKalb County, Georgia, state court found in favor of a former police officer with Gwinnett County, Georgia, who sued a psychologist for violating the physician-patient privilege after the psychologist made a warning call to an identifiable third party (As cited in Doverspike,
On January 1st, 2016 Travis Jonathan Miller fell down the stairs in his apartment building, injuring his his right hand and ankle. The medical report revealed that the injuries included a sprained wrist and ankle, and a fracture in the intermediate phalanx of the right digitus minimus, commonly known as the “pinky” or “little finger.” The fractured finger required a splint. The sprains that resulted from the injury only required ice, and anti-inflammatories for treatment. (Med. Exam. Report). During the client interview Mr. Miller claimed that he did not have any prior medical conditions that would provoke a fall. As well he provided some information that was not included in the medical report. The incident occurred at ten in the morning when he was carrying his laundry downstairs. While carrying his laundry his right foot slipped, as he fell he reached for the railing which was not there and he suffered a five foot fall which resulted in his injuries. Despite the doctor’s recommendation of waiting two weeks before applying pressure to the finger he was not able to return to work for four weeks. In addition to the four weeks of missed work Mr. Miller missed two
In the case of Canton V. Harris (1989) as according to ("Can a Failure to Train Lead to Litigation? - HG.org," n.d.) Geraldine Harris was arrested by Canton Police officers and brought to the police station. When she arrived at the station, Harris was found sitting on the floor of the police vehicle and when asked if she needed medical attention, she responded incoherently. After she was brought inside the station for processing, Mrs. Harris fell to the floor on two occasions and the officers finally left Ms. Harris on the floor to prevent her from falling again. During this period in police custody she was not provided medical attention. After her release from custody, her family concerned enough about her condition, had her transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was treated and diagnosed with several emotional ailments with
Dr. Graham should have informed Mr. Villalobos about the severity of his health conditions; Dr. Graham also should have informed Mr. Villalobos about all of the possible treatments available. Mr. Villalobos has right to know about his own health conditions and should allowed to make his own decisions regarding his treatment plan. According, to the Ethics case study Dr. Graham did not inform Mr. Villalobos about the state of his medical condition and did not tell Mr. Villalobos about all of his options for treatment. According to Physician-Patient Speech: An Analysis of The State of Patient’s First Amendment Rights to Receive Accurate Medical Advice (2015)” The physician-patient relationship holds, and has held for a long time, a very important
The issue being discussed is if the doctor is doing the right thing if they betray the patient to help them get better, or if they are doing the wrong thing since the patient only told that information under the promise of confidentiality. While maintaining confidentiality is very important in a physician-patient relationship there are some things that cannot be kept secret. Cases like child abuse or self/public
Essentialism will be a part of my classroom because I will be teaching science. Science is part of the basis of essentialism that became stressed with the launching of Sputnik in 1957. The philosophy of essentialism also stresses that when leaving school students are able to apply learning from school to the real world. This is what I want to do in my classroom; I want my students to understand the material being taught to them and be able to apply it to the world around them.
This observation made me think about my teaching statement I wrote at the beginning of the quarter and how I might change my thoughts on how a classroom should look after seeing one in progress. The classroom is no longer hours of pencil and paper work; it is a vibrant learning space with motion and commotion, all organized and supervised by a caring teacher.
Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.
We ignore the plain fact that students learn at different rates and in different ways” (3). Furthermore, teachers are the main source of knowledge in the classroom. When teaching, teachers determine almost everything that happens within their classroom. Including what information they have students learn, and how they pass on that information. However, over the years, it has been neglected that every student learns differently. Additionally, it needs to be remembered that it is the students who are learning. A school system is needed that can retain all students’ curiosity, individuality, and creativity. For instance, whether it is the amount of homework given, the type of test, the pace of teaching, or the style of notes required, students should not be confined to only one way of
For idealists, a school’s primary focus is to refine the student’s intellectual process, as well implement exemplary models of behavior. Teachers would not only model ideal behaviors, but have full authoritative control over the classroom and the orderly process of educating students to strive for goodness. (“Five Educational Philosophies,” n.d.) Essentialists schooling is practical, with the focus on creating productive members of society, through basic curriculum of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Students are required to work hard, be respectful, and be disciplined, while teachers control classrooms through an authoritative approach (“Five Educational Philosophies,” n.d.).
Considering the traditional teaching methods and the abundance of test-taking in schools, it is evident that the philosophical theory, Essentialism, has a strong presence in classrooms. Although Essentialism affects policymakers, parents, and the mass public, it most importantly affects the students. By deeply analyzing the issue of an overwhelming Essentialist presence in education, one can conclude that Essentialism is the root of contemporary issues in education.
“I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future of children. For me, it is fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom (who is a retired teacher) for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.”
A very recent case, Munson v. Roufusport has taken the mixed martial arts world by storm. Dennis Munson Jr. tragically died following a mma bout in Milwaukee back in 2014. This year Munson's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Roufusport, the promoters of the North American Fighting Championship. The lawsuit was also filed against the referee Al Wichgers, and ringside doctor Carlos Feliciano for allegedly “failing in their duty” (1) in protecting Munson. The referee Al Wichgers disregarded several key signals that indicated that Munson was severely injured and prolonged a fight that was clearly over. Roufusport also failed at acquiring both fighters with proper headwear for the fight (2). A video obtained from Roufusport showed the ringside doctor was reluctant to help Munson when he was evidently stumbling and staggering. Even after Dennis Munson Jr. collapse (end of the last round), the medical staff’s actions were slow and negligent. He wasn’t provided oxygen or examined immediately. He was not taken to Froedtert Hospital either, which is the area's Level 1 trauma center,
As a future educator, I have many goals. My first goal would be to never overpower my students. Being a teacher should not be a job, it should be a passion. I will focus my classroom around the student’s needs, rather than my own. The classroom will revolve around the students. I will be their guiding hand through education. Another goal of mine is to have the students interact in a positive way. Social interaction is very important. As students combine with peers they share knowledge and learn how to solve problems. In the real-world, this what will happen. Whenever I can, I li...
