My academy experience to date has made me aware of issues in higher education that I want to explore further. Ultimately my goal is to better understand the critical issues in higher education and be able to influence change for the betterment of the academy as well as the students who are and will be participating in it.
During my years at Babson College I have effectively generated change. I accomplish this by leading and participating in the practice of process development and improvement as it pertains to, event planning, data planning, inquiry outreach, and new program roll-out within Graduate Admissions. The practice of change management relates to larger higher education issues because it is needed in for the continued success of higher education.
Change was and continues to be an important component of these processes that I am responsible for because it allows me to develop efficiencies and economies of scale. As an example, I managed a team that implemented the installation of the Graduate Admission’s Customer Relationship Management system. The implementation enabled the Graduate Admissions office to more effectively track and plan the movement of interested candidates from inquiry to application in one system. This implementation and deployment ultimately altered the way two separate offices conduct business. The implementation required changes in practice and was ultimately needed for the continued growth of the Graduate Admissions office.
In this process, it was important for me to establish the sense of urgency as well as the vision of the project. I accomplished this by meeting and working with the stakeholders, securing their consensus and working with the technical team to develop technical...

My main goal is to make a positive contribution in the Higher Education. I believe the UMASS-Boston EdD in Education/Higher Education Administration program will provide me the knowledge to be able to select and defend my chosen topic question. Upon completion of the program I would like to be able to develop theories or take existing theories and implement them while understanding and planning for their implications.
I am excited about the opportunity to participate in the UMASS-Boston EdD in Education/Higher Education Administration program. I very carefully researched programs and I believe that the UMASS-Boston EdD in Education/Higher Education Administration program is the best choice for me and my educational growth. I look forward to taking the next step(s) in the process to get me closer to engaging in this higher education adventure.
At IMSA, I believe the possibilities to enhance my education and future are infinite. The challenging curriculum and bright teachers and students both work together to make a positive learning environment. I am excited to be able to contribute to IMSA by sharing my insight, and being a part of the many clubs and the student
I truly hope that you will take my application into consideration for the Loyola University Maryland School of Education. Teaching and education is a passion of mine and I feel that this graduate program will help me hone my skills to become a well-rounded and effective educator. I bring to the table experience in academic research and applied experience as an employee of the Harford County Public Schools.
My philosophy of higher education is that thus far we have realized that the gift of sharing knowledge is one of the keys to success in our society. We have learned from so many great philosophers, scientist, and researchers that have fueled our knowledge in a vast variety subjects. The importance of passing on this knowledge and improving our society has shown to be important in human survival and our growth in the years to come. As the years pass and technology is getting more advanced, the need for higher education is steadily rising. In the past years, a bachelor’s degree was viewed as one of the greatest accomplishments of that time. Now in today’s standards, only having a bachelors degree will not suffice. Thus proving that higher education is the pillars for growth in humanity. Similar to my philosophy, I believe my Christian experience relates to my views of higher education. For instance, as Christians, we have learned that the keys to success is reading and learning from the Bible. Just as we have learned from past philosophers, the Bible provides Christians with knowledge to continue to walk in the path that God has paved for us to go to heaven. In addition, talking and communicating with God helps us in times of need. He is our teacher and supervisor providing us useful knowledge to succeed. From that guidance, it is our job to pass that knowledge to other Christians to grow in our faith. In both higher education and Christianity, our job is to pass our knowledge and faith to others to maintain and improve human survival for years to come. Moreover, in today’s society, there is a growing need for Christ centered learning. I believe that CBU offers that and more. By combining my Christian experience and philosophy of ...
This paper will be broken down into six sections profiling each critical part of implementing and managing change in an organization. The sections included are; outline for plan creating urgency, the approach to attracting a guiding team, a critique of the organizational profile, the components of change, and how to empower the organization.
The purpose of higher education is that it fosters and produces the skills and knowledge for individual self-growth, drives innovation, and challenges societal norms (Corey, Corey & Callanan, 2011). For an individual student, higher education is seen as a place that cultural capital is obtained or challenge, in which students are able to reconstruct their identity in society (Corey et al. 2011). Self-growth for an individual is not only limit to cultural or social growth, but also pertains to career exploration through the courses and the work related experience they are exposed to in higher education. For a society, higher education is sought out as the means of producing innovation, challenging societal norms, and creating an educated citizenry through classroom discussions as well as the inclusion of various different perspectives.
My ideal college experience rests on the notion of academic flexibility and confidence. Throughout the next four years, I want to immerse myself in intellectual realms that I currently may have no knowledge of. Since the academic opportunities at the College of Arts and Sciences heavily rely on interdisciplinarity and a balance of breadth and depth, my studies here will fulfill my desire for a heightened appreciation of the world and our place in it. Penn’s One University policy will also prove essential for me, as I will eventually want to expand my horizons beyond the borders of the arts and sciences subjects.
The change process within any organization can prove to be difficult and very stressful, not only for the employees but also for the management team. Hayes (2014), highlights seven core activities that must take place in order for change to be effective: recognizing the need for change, diagnosing the change and formulating a future state, planning the desired change, implementing the strategies, sustaining the implemented change, managing all those involved and learning from the change. Individually, these steps are comprised of key actions and decisions that must be properly addressed in order to move on to the next step. This paper is going to examine how change managers manage the implementation of change and strategies used
In this capacity as a Graduate Associate, I intend to gain skills related to outreach and development in student affairs. Mainly, constructing programs and promoting services for classmates which best fit their needs for professional advancement. I anticipate being able to further advance my skills related to evaluation as it relates to programs and methods. It is in my view that evaluating programs and projects from the beginning is critical to the efficacy and efficiency within higher education. Reflection and data provide quantitative and qualitative information to document strengths and weaknesses for future areas of programmatic
Managing change is an “ongoing process whose objective is to enhance the ability of an organization to participate and respond to developments in its external and internal environments, and to enable employees at all levels to cope with the changes” (Cascio, 2016, p. 6). Change is never easy, but never impossible. It occurs when there is an understanding of the need for change, the vision of where the organization should go, and a commitment to action. Change leaders need to address the question “Why change?” and develop a rationale for the change and a compelling vision of a possible future. “Being dissatisfied with the status quo helps to ready the organization for change” (Cawsey, et al, 2016, p. 106). It is critical to involve every member in the organization, from top to bottom, in the early stage of change to be successful. The goal of the leader is to get each individual to “buy-in” the proposal to get support from
The world is constantly changing in many different ways. Whether it is technological or cultural change is present and inevitable. Organizations are not exempt from change. As a matter of fact, organizations have to change with the world and society in order to be successful. Organizations have to constantly incorporate change in order to have a competitive advantage and satisfy their customers. Organizations use change in order to learn and grow. However, change is not something that can happen in an organization overnight. It has to be thought through and planned. The General Model of Planned Change focuses on what processes are used by the organization to implement change. In the General Model of Planned Change, four steps are used in order to complete the process of change. Entering and Contracting, Diagnosing, Planning and Implementing, and Evaluating and Institutionalizing are the four steps used in order to complete the process of change in an organization. The diagnostic process is one of the most important activities in OD(Cummings, 2009, p. 30).
There are various professional and personal reasons why I wish to pursue a doctoral degree. I have been continuously and successfully involved in international education, student, and academic affairs over the past twelve years at four different higher education institutions. I enjoy working for higher education institutions as an advisor, admissions officer, program manager, program developer, and in my current role as the Associate Director for Outreach and Admissions at Portland State University. However, my true passion is research. My professional experience has given me a good foundation for me to take that next step, getting a doctoral degree, and pursue my true passion of being a researcher.
Furthermore, it is essential that every single institution follow the same pattern so students are not confused by their future upon graduation. In other words, schools must match the trends and changes within society. Therefore, higher education must advocate for strong change, advocating for stimulating curriculum, which simultaneously integrates and encourages strong moral purpose and equally strong partnerships and relationships inside and outside a university (Drury,
...es at your university make its graduation program ideally suited to my professional goals. Your University provides a dynamic atmosphere, which will shape me to be a thinker and a learner. The flexibility of the curriculum will provide the broad-based education that I need to widen the scope of my knowledge and skills.
This was a long-term design project, and everything was fresh to me. Patience was the crucial and essential factor that was needed in such a long project in my view. Fortunately, I learned and gained the patience. Besides, communication was another extremely significant factor. It was essential to communicate and discuss with the pathway tutors and the course mates regularly, for the information of the tutor was the most useful advice in the process of major project. Overall, I achieved these two important factors which also could be described as strengths.
Higher education debate is a controversial and hot topic for politicians in the United States due to the price associated with higher education in the country. State lawmakers regularly worry about the rising cost of attaining a college degree, and lowering the debt burden to the student. Consequently these issues have been turned into a talking point during the presidential campaign trail. The pressure on the amount of tuition paid has not only been seen from the government but also from the families, which have shown reluctance in paying the high tuition fees. Public universities 'which have attempted to increase the fee' have come under heavy scrutiny despite the reluctance of the state to invest in higher education (Holmwood, 2011).
