University is a wonderful place. People do not need worry each trying to cheat. People can make friends with everybody whom they want and they could study a lot of knowledge without worry the correctness. The most important point is people could get experience from study. My English 101 class in this semester is an epitome of those advantages for taking university. As a freshman to study aboard, language is the most challenge for everyman. The same to me, when I took the first class in the U.S, I felt the condition was out of my control. Especially, in writing section, I had even no idea to begin. The experience of writing in Chinese was a little bit useful. I was confused while writing is a main point in my major. Before my university career, in order to adapt new language environment, my advisor recommended me to take English Second Language lesson. Indeed, I learned too much from the ESL. My vocabulary and spoken skill was promoted. However, writing was still a block for me. Except for grammar and spell error, my professor said he don’t understand the main point of my paper. He gave me a lot of suggestion but they don’t make me sense. English 101 is a most suitable class for me. It provides the opportunity to make up deficiency in my English. I develop a habit that writing an outline before I begin. That is significant to guarantee my easy be more understandable for reader. I start to think how I should arrange my paper construction. To sum up, this English 101 class really teaches me a lot, it include every aspect, teaches me how to reading, how to writing, how to communicate. This class like a treasure box, you can get everything about English from this class. Also, all of my classmates are really friendly and helpful, they do not mind my English is bad, they still communicate with me. They do not mind I bother them and use their time to help me. Professor Cochran is nice and kind person, because my English is bad, something he said to the class is not making sense to me, I have to ask him after class. He also helps me much with my essay, and every time I send email to him, he will answer me really fast. This class is awesome, I love this class. I hope in the future every class I take could teach me a lot like this class.
...out homework, which was a huge stress relief. The class also offered how to write the base foundation of any paper, which is significant to become a great writer as well as to write a flawless paper. Also, the group activities allowed us to get closer with our classmates. However, I feel like some of the activities we did were mediocre and ordinary. But it is hard to tell what experience each student received from their high school. Some knew more than others, and I was just more grateful with the education I obtained from high school. I was also not fond of buying the books for the class, when it was not a necessity for class. We did not put much use into the books, and they were relatively expensive. I do recommend the class, especially to incoming freshman. It is a great foundation for legitimate college writing classes. I enjoyed learning from you Mrs. Penwell.
I know I was never good at writing in English, but attending this class I have learn how edit and organize my own work. Also, I have a better understanding of how to express linguistic diversity while still communicating clearly and effectively with a chosen audience. In my fourth project, it shows my improvement in grammar and organization. I learned how to conduct research for a paper, make a claim, and form a counter argument. For example in my fourth paper, I collected five research documents to support my paper. I annotated and highlighted main reasons in each documents. My claim had been redrafted several times with my peers. I valued the times with my peers and the thoughtful suggestion about my paper. More importantly, my writing skill improved significantly. Even though I still make mistakes in my papers, I believe that I am qualified to move on to English
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
“We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself.” People go through their whole lives trying to figure out who they are, look for a sense of purpose or belonging, or attempt to discover the right path for them-self. The lucky ones have somehow found what ever it is they were looking for throughout their journey. They try to teach the people who are still looking how to find their way but often fail because it is not up to them where or how someone else should live their life. It is up to the individual himself to find fulfillment.
Based on my observations, my first impression of my English class is that it will be exciting. On the first day of school, I was intrigued by Ms. Shaw-Morgan’s sense of humor since none of my elementary school teachers joked around as much as her. Ms. Shaw Morgan is very funny and her classroom is organized and well-decorated. It is my first year at Canyon Hills and having an exciting class will make the experience more enjoyable. I hope this class lives up to my expectations.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
Overall, I have learned so much in English 111 and I have really enjoyed being in your class. Everything I have learned will help stay with me in my continuing years of college. Your lectures were very interesting and you made them pleasant to learn. Thank you for a great semester.
...larify the structure and destination in which I was headed. By revising my essays I was able to make the content and message seem more important and made the final drafts seem a slight degree better than the originals, but the finals were better nonetheless. The instructor did a very good job in guiding me and helping find my way into writing by focusing on some of the problems I was facing and clarified them so that I would better understand them. The instructor helped me expand on my grammatical by helping me discover what it was that I lacked while constructing basic sentence structure; the usage of commas and semi-colons, quotations, and how to sight titles of books and articles within an essay. This English 101 course I have attended has helped me develop better writing skills as well as helped me create more profound essays and a very satisfying research paper.
...pares them for the real world. Well prepared students will help the economy of The United States and will create a better community. A higher education trains them by better placing those students on a higher status in society, and consequently will help the economic growth. College students also learn to understand the world around them. Educated individuals know when it is the best time to state their views aloud and when it is better to stay quiet. A higher education embraces the ability to find out what is relevant or irrelevant in a situation. Students learn how to communicate, treat people with different beliefs, and interpret their opinions. They cannot be easily fooled by others who use manipulative language. In other words, a higher education will create a better and more organized society, which will benefit the present students and future generations.
When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted anymore.
At the age of 15, I started working with my mother while going to school. My mother was an owner of a small store. As a way to earn money, I would assist her in her daily duties when I got home from school. Some days were challenging and fun at the same time. There are many different things that I have learned and skills that I have developed that will help me, as I grow older in my personal and professional life.
When I consider the next phase of my life, my first instinct is to feel a bit overwhelmed and uneasy. As these feelings creep in, I remind myself of times in my life when I experienced decisions that could potentially affect my future and I realize that I have been through many transformations in my life already. I remember that every new experience has helped me to grow and mold me into the person that I am now. Thinking back, I remember feeling curious about new adventures and instead of being nervous,
According to Lucinda Basset “You have to do what you love to do, not get stuck in that comfort zone of a regular job. Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it.” So as I went on through high school the most important things i have learned is how to read and write better (almost like an author) as my English teacher, Mr. Ruoff, is an amazing teacher and knows what he's doing, He teaches us to be better at writing assessments and important things we will use in college as we graduate.
