With my first semester as a college student coming to an end, I can honestly say I have gained so much knowledge and this has been a major eye opening experience. By being in your English 111 class, I have learned a great deal about myself as a writer and a communicator. English used to be a subject I took for granted because I always considered it to be easy and there wasn’t much to it. You have helped me realize that in order to write a good paper, it is important to have a deeper understanding of the many structures and usages; as well as a better understanding of yourself and your audience. In what seems like such a short time, I have learned about rhetorical knowledge, the writing process, oral communication, critical thinking/reading/writing, and digital technology. One of the very first things I learned was rhetorical knowledge, which is the means of understanding communication and how to communicate better. What really helped me understand this concept was the rhetorical triangle (insert link to notes). I now have a better understanding of how to communicate better throughout my writing. I can use my purpose as an author to craft a message that will influence my audience and meet their expectations. I have been using this knowledge in my other classes and I have seen improvement; for example, with my SDV portfolio (insert hyperlink) I met the expectations of Professor Morrison and received a god grade. That is proof of my hard work and understanding of rhetorical knowledge. Another concept we went over was the Appeals triangle (insert notes). With that I learned about Ethos, Pathos, and logos. Ethos is gaining trust with your audience. Pathos is the ability to feel the audience’s emotions and place that within your wor... ... middle of paper ... ...er helpful technique was frequently taking timed tests to music on YouTube. This helped work our minds into the habit of clearing all distractions and noise. Noise(Insert hyperlink to noise) is anything type of distraction or interruption that will get in the way of getting things done, or even get in your way of understanding something; For example, pets, emotion, attitude, and interest. Those are just a few of the many types of noise. Overall, I have learned so much in English 111 and I have really enjoyed being in your class. Everything I have learned will help stay with me in my continuing years of college. I hope I have proven to you that the things you taught actually did help, and I gained so much knowledge about myself as a writer and a communicator. Your lectures were very interesting and you made them pleasant to learn. Thank you for a great semester.
