A challenge that all seniors face at the end of their high school career is the decision that will shape the rest of their future. Will it be Harvard, Ivy Tech, or a job at the nearest fast food joint? Of course, there is nothing wrong with not going to college, but for the people of society who plan to marry and have at least three children, it is almost essential. After making this decision, the seniors who choose to attend college must then decide which one. Campus size, housing, nearby activities, and available degrees and study programs are all important traits to consider when searching for the perfect college.
When looking at attending class from the perspective of a college student it should hopefully be easy to understand why you should attend. For most students the answer would consist of something along the lines of ‘to better educate myself’ or ‘so I can get a better paying job’, both of which seem plausible. However, those from past generations and those with different demographics might look at this question much differently, due to a college education not always being a necessity to become successful in life. Although many tend to think going to college and getting a degree is the american dream, that varies, and in most circumstances that isn’t the truth at all. As college prices have soared over the past few decades, and student debt becoming evermore of a factor in the decision of going to college has been increasingly difficult.
Many Americans today tend to believe that a college education is valuable financially, yet some others strongly oppose this, since they look at the college education as being both time and money consuming. A person who successfully completes a college education may obtain one or all of the following; an associate’s degree after two years, a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or a PhD. The institutions that provide the college education can be public or private. Whereas a college education might be seen as being very expensive, it actually increases people’s chances of getting higher paying jobs, instills knowledge into them, and raises their enjoyment levels.
Attending college has changed quite a lot over the years. When it first arose, it was only accessible to the wealthy, and it was unheard of for everyone else. Only a few decades ago, a bachelor's degree could almost guarantee a comfortable job, and it was another advantage to any resume. A college degree is what most employers look for now-a-day, making it more essential than ever before.
Without the diploma, chances of getting hired decrease. However; today, to be successful in a prestigious career, having a high school diploma is not enough. In addition to it, one needs to at least have an associate’s degree. Some people even get a second degree, which significantly increases the chances of success and better employment. In order to be viable for the company, having personal goals, as well as other needed skills such as knowledge of foreign languages, computer skills etc., is not enough. Nonetheless, some people in their early seventeen-eighteen years already planning to open their own business in the future, clearly understanding that they won’t be working for
Everyone has their own reasons for wanting a college education. Popular reasons for attending college include being able to obtain a better paying job, increase future earning potential, gain training for a specific career, and learning more about a specific topic of interest. Rampell, C. (2015) My reasons are more personal than either of the reasons listed. I do not wish to miss out on significant opportunities that have the potential to enrich my life and future. If there is anything in my life that I would regret it would be not pursuing my college education. As we get older life happens and the list of things we wish we could have done gets longer. Knowing that it is never too late to accomplish my goals is strong motivation to shorten the list of should haves. Obtaining a college education is important to me because I will have a strong sense of accomplishment for setting a goal that is important to me and seeing it through to the end. I also enjoy challenges and feel inspired by the endless possibilities for my future.
Having a college degree in today’s world is very important because more companies and businesses are requiring that anyone they hire has at least a two-year college degree, which is also known as an Associate 's degree. High school graduates and other people who have had thoughts about going to college should do so because it is getting harder for just a high school graduate to get a job, this is a result of hiring companies and businesses don’t want anyone without a college degree. Having a college degree will open more opportunities for the future. By doing so they further their lives and create a future that they want.
As a full time enrolled student at a 4 year college I am greatly interested in this issue and to answer the question of “so what?” and “who cares?” this is an issue because this affects us college students and prospective college students so as to be fully aware of our situations and educate those that are not very knowledgeable on the facts that support my claim. I have been a student at the university of Texas at Arlington for 2 years now and I changed my major form biology to economics my second semester because it was then I realized that I didn’t have the passion for biology or to end up being a doctor. I have been a makeup artiste for about a year and a half now and I absolutely love what I do, I don’t just have the passion to do makeup but also to someday be the creator and owner of a makeup company. I felt economics would give me the management skills to be able to start up and run my makeup company. Without a college degree, I don’t know how my dreams and aspirations would come true. Yes the advantages are really appealing but a lot of people see only ...
