Later School Start I believe that school should have a later start because it improves the way students and the school environment in many ways. School usually starts at eight a.m. and I believe it should start around nine a.m. This gives students an extra hour of sleep or more time in the morning to get ready or eat a bigger meal. One of the reasons I believe school should start later is because students will gain more sleep. More sleep will improve grades because sleep refreshes your mind and lets your brain rest for a long school day. I understand that kids might stay up later, but if school started later this will give them the chance to catch up on loss sleep from the weeknds. More sleep will improve
How many times has this happened to you; it’s six thirty on a Tuesday morning, your alarm has already gone off twice, your still laying in bed and your bus comes in twenty minutes. This is an everyday occurrence at my house. It is a proven statistic that the average high school student does not get enough sleep. While some experts like Dr. Lee Yanku say “It is not the schools starting time that is the problem as to why students don’t get enough sleep, it is because of facebook, myspace and cell phones” The truth behind it is that we can’t budget sports, homework and extracurricular activities into one day and still get nine hours of sleep. This is hurting student’s academic averages and needs to change. Changing the school time will help boost academic averages among students, and isn’t th...
Why Schools Should Continue Starting at Eight Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
But others think otherwise about this topic, those who think that the school day should start bright and early think that it should stay that way. Many who think from this perspective is because of how it will interrupt the daily schedule of a student. Coming back to Lisa L. Lewis article, “Why school should start later in the day”, Lewis also inspect the other side of this conflict explaining why the school day should be starting bright and early,“Another potential problem schools commonly raise is that later start times would lead to kids missing classes at the end of the day in order to attend sporting events, or that athletic participation rates would decline”(Lewis 3). When there are such events that start at this time students may have
School Should Begin Later in the Day Many teenage high school students are tired during the school day. distracting them from their studies. That is just one of the many good reasons. that the start time of school should be later in the day. Some people may say that the brain is not fully functional until 9:30 is just a matter of opinion.
For the past three or so years now, there have been many controversies on whether schools should start at a later time. There are definitely many pros and cons if school were to start at a later time, but many teenagers would greatly appreciate it. Nowadays lately, especially in our generation that is full of technology and socializing, students tend to stay up much later than they should be. This not only causes many problems for a student’s health itself, but also pushes many problems into a teacher’s hand. This leads to the conclusion that schools should start a much later time.
Picture a kid sleeping peacefully In his bed Then the alarm clock goes off and he realizes that he is late he jumps up and sprints down the stairs he has no time to eat he grabs his bag and run out the door. In class he falls asleep in class then the teacher caught him and he gets detention. In detection stares at the window thinking of what he is going to eat when he gets home he is starving he did not eat breakfast and did not have enough time to pack a lunch. What is a main reason why all this happened? Lack of sleep, things like this could be avoided if school would be pushed back an hour or two. So today I have decided to write this blog and go over some facts about sleeping
One reason that school should start later is because children are too tired to pay attention that early in the morning. An article on http://www.sleepfoundation.org written by The National Sleep Foundation states that school starting before 9:00AM causes sleep deprivation and lower performance in academics to athletics. It also says that it changes children’s sleeping patterns/schedule. Say a child goes to a concert for school, has a football game, a piano recital, or anything that keeps them up late. Well that one
Do you think school should start later? 90% of high schoolers would say yes to school starting later. The other 10% is probably still asleep. Most students in the morning are usually still half asleep walking around like they just rose from the dead while there are those who look like they chugged a gallon of red bull.
Some students enjoy school and some don’t it all really depends on the person. School can benefit but also stress students out. One of the ways school can stress students out is the start time. The earliest school starts in the US at 7:45 which is very early. So many students have things that they do outside of school which would include them staying up late and not getting enough time to rest at night. Causing students stress
Amelia pounds on the alarm clock at dawn in exhaustion. She falls right back asleep since she has hit the SNOOZE button yet again. She then hears the footsteps of her parents walking the hallway that leads to her room. Suddenly a loud scream ringing in her ears signaling for her to wake up once again. She knows that the bus will be here soon to pick her up for school. So, she drags her half-awake body out from underneath her sheets, staggers toward the bathroom, and hits the wall both literally and figuratively. This is a typical morning for not only Amelia but most adolescents as they battle the early morning start times of schools. Therefore, teenagers need school to start at a later time. Schools must start later for teenagers because of health issues, educational reasons, and increase injuries/ deaths.
When your alarm clock rings, or your parents yell at you in the morning, do you feel like
Students and teacher both wish that school would start later. Most teenagers are grumpy and unpleasant in the morning which nobody enjoys. It is actually unhealthy for teens to be at school before nine o’clock. The only issue with school starting later is that some students may not have rides due to parents working and not being able to take them. The school times need to be delayed until at least eight thirty for students to be able to properly learn.
Payton played her whole school soccer game and felt exhausted on her way home. By the time she arrived at her house, she still had to finish her math, science, and social studies homework she was assigned. Payton rushed to finish all of this homework she was bombarded with, while not caring about how it turned out. She was shoving her dinner down her mouth as the sun started to set and it kept getting later in the night. She opened her math textbook and started studying for her math test tomorrow which determines the majority of her grade. Now, it was eleven o'clock and pitch dark outside. Payton is delighted when she sees her bed and falls fast asleep. It is now early in the morning, the bus comes in thirty minutes. Payton hears her mom
School should start later don’t you think? Starting later will help the kids be less tired so they focus better and don’t miss school so much. It’ll improve a lot of things like education and decrease missing school days.
