Schools Starting at a Later Time For the past three or so years now, there have been many controversies on whether schools should start at a later time. There are definitely many pros and cons if school were to start at a later time, but many teenagers would greatly appreciate it. Nowadays lately, especially in our generation that is full of technology and socializing, students tend to stay up much later than they should be. This not only causes many problems for a student’s health itself, but also pushes many problems into a teacher’s hand. This leads to the conclusion that schools should start a much later time.

Along with this boost in improvement of attendance and grades, there was a big decrease in tardiness, substance abuse, symptoms of depression, and less amount of teen car accidents. Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Also many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.

There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. If students in school are more alert, they will be able to pay more attention to teachers.

Students are known for coming into school late due to lack of sleep, traffic, or cramming in last minute responsibilities. Receiving more time will give the students a chance to prepare in the mornings. Ways of preparing could be extra time to wake up, study, finish homework, workout, eat breakfast and socialize. The students are more alert, on time, and ready for school, when given more time in the mornings. When given more time in the mornings it gives the students a chance to sleep in and the teachers more time to prepare for class.
