Growing up, I was immersed in agriculture and the way of farm life. I was taught that if you want something, you have to work for it. Learning how to work growing up inspired me to keep working towards my dreams, no matter how big they may seem. My dream since I was young was to help people. I always wanted to help people to be healthy, strong, and confident in who they are. So the field I knew that would allow me to help people in these ways was Nutrition Sciences and Dietetics. I chose this degree because I want to take what I'm learning about the human body and help people learn how to customize a plan to make their life as healthy as possible. Using my knowledge of different exercises and proper nutrition I can help people change their lives for the better. …show more content…
My mother, Rita Leonard, and sister, Monica Leonard, are both alums of IVCC. My mother was the one who first inspired me by showing how this stepping stone allowed her to go off to the college of her dreams and be the successful woman she is today. However, it wasn’t until my sister graduated in 2016 to see how truly helpful IVCC is. This school had given her the connections and the help she needed to go above and beyond at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She now has a job in Texas with Amazon and she has told me that if it wasn’t for IVCC, she doesn’t think she would be where she is today. After IVCC, I want to go to the University of Illinois Chicago and get my Nutritional Science and Dietetics degree. My plan is to get my masters in my degree and start my career. My dream is to someday go back to school and apply for dental school. Dentistry has been a dream of mine since I was little, and I know that it is my calling in life. I want to get my doctorate in Dental Surgery and specialize in pediatric dental and work with

As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
As a child, when someone asked me what I was going to be when I grew up my answer was always a teacher. For as long as I can remember I wanted to teach. When I was around 7 or 8 years old I would make my grandmother math worksheets and she would pretend to be my student. I knew as I grew older that yes, my dream job as a kid was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started looking into different fields of teaching. I was stuck between high school English or Anatomy/Biology. So I began my freshman year of college as a biology student and I did community service at a local daycare. One week working with the children and I knew then that I wanted to be an elementary teacher more than anything. To see the smiles on their faces
When I was in high school, my great-grandmother took sick and came to live with us. Before school, after school and during the weekend I would help take care of her. This gave me a sense of pride and during that time, I realized how fulfilling it is to help people. I have always wanted in a profession where I could help people. I did not go on that path but I always had the desire. I am on my way to become a medical assistant (MA) because of this reason.
Educationally I am on the right path. In several weeks I will graduate high school with almost thirty college credit hours. I will need to take more chemistry, biology, and math classes. I plan on earning a masters degree in nutrition.

I want to enter the dietetics profession because I have always been interested in nutrition. In my youth I was in 4-H and I always enjoyed the times where I gave presentations about the benefits of fruits and vegetables. What started out as a fascination about food has become one of my favorite topics to talk about. Another reason I am passionate about entering the dietetics profession is that I enjoy helping people. By becoming a dietetics professional I can use my passion about food and nutrition to help people eat appropriately according to their diet needs.
to manage my own health is one of the main reasons why I wanted to major in Dietetics.
In After Virtue, Alasdair MacIntyre maintains that the lack of virtues such as truthfulness, justice, courage, and relevant intellectual virtues corrupts moral traditions as well as institutions and practices. These derive their life from the traditions of which they are the contemporary embodiments. However in order to recognize this one must also recognize that MacIntyre wrote that “the existence of an additional virtue, one whose importance is perhaps most obvious when it is least present, the virtue of having an accurate sense of traditions to which one belongs or which confront me. This virtue is not to be compared and or confused with any form of conservative antiquarianism” (MacIntyre, 223). The purpose of this essay is to explain the

Since a child, I had a desire to become an educator. I truly enjoyed playing school with my siblings and cousins; this involved me teaching them a make-believe school lesson. This was an activity I did as a game for enjoyment as a child. Whoever knew then, this would be the very profession I would be pursuing now. This has been a passion of mines for many years.

I originally wanted to work in the clinical setting because after taking my science courses, specifically Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, and Medical Nutrition Therapy, I became very interested in the medical aspect of nutrition. I have a background in food service and after starting my independent study with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), I have returned my focus back to this principle. I have realized that I would like my focus to be on preventative medicine/nutrition. I think the best way I can achieve this focus is by working with and educating children. If children can learn proper nutrition while they are young, they can prevent the diseases that arise from poor diet and sedentary lifestyles.
