1. Do I agree or disagree with these results? Why?
I am not sure that I agree with all of the results. However, I believe they may be accurate. First, I will explain my technical skills. I scored a 24, which is on the bottom end of the high range. I am not surprised by this score. I agree that I have learned technical skills from school and at work. I have financial knowledge, sale experience, and a high level certification as a graphic applier that is based on my abilities (Professional Decal Applicators Association). However, the reason I agree with the this score is because I know that I can continue to improve on my technical skills. I will continue to learn more at RIT that I can apply to my career in the future. As human skills go, I

However, the more that I learn about leadership, the more my definition has evolved. Between the knowledge of leadership traits and leadership skills, my definition has expanded on the attitude or culture that I originally mentioned. My new definition tried to encompass all the traits and skills that are needed to have effective leadership. my definition of leadership is demonstrating the attitude, culture, traits, and skills needed to influence others in order to achieve a common goal or desired …show more content…
I do not see myself as a strong leader. However, I know that I have some leadership skills. It will be important for me to continue to think about how I can continue to develop my technical, human, and conceptual skills, so that I can be the best leader I can be. However, Northouse (2015) continued to explain a few other skills that are important for leaders to possess. Some of those skills are motivation, social judgement, problem-solving skills. These are also importatnt skills that a leader must demonstrate. I need to work on all of these skills to be a better leader and will work to remind myself of all the different types of leadership skills, so that I can continue to improve as a leader.
4. What skills, if any, do I need to acquire to be a better leader?
All-in-all after reading about leadership skills, I think that I have a lot to work on. I already demonstrate some leadership skills (such as human and problem-solving skills). However, I know that I could be a better motivator and improve on my conceptual skills. Also, I think that all of my leadership skills can be improved on. The best way for me to grow as a leader is to continuously educate myself, practice using different leadership skills, and learn from any leadership experiences that I
According to Grossman and Valiga’s Leadership Characteristics and Skills Assessment, the interpretation of scores for perception of what makes a good leader gave me the following results: good perception of a good leader and the scores for perception of your own ability to lead resulted in low perceived leadership ability for myself (Grossman and Valiga, 2013). With these results, I have concluded that I have low confidence in my leadership skills and ability. This would be an area of improvement needing work on my part. Part of being a good leader is being confident in one’s abilities and skills. Who would want to follow a leader who has n...
As a primarily introverted person, I shy away from extraversion which can deter my people and communication skills. While I do not lack interpersonal and social (people) skills, these areas to consider for improvement. To be an effective leader, one must be able to communicate well within small and large groups. An effective leader must have effective social judgement skills. While I do not lack self-confidence or the other traits that are needed for great leaders, I do realize the need to enhance my communication skills significantly to become a greater leader.
1. There are numerous methods, characteristics, and motives for proper leadership. In my opinion, leadership is the overall process of unifying a team toward completing a common goal. Several key people in my life influenced this definition and how I lead.
Leadership is the ability that someone has to motivate, guide and empower a group of people, in the particular case the personnel of an organization, in order to achieve specific goals.
A leader is someone with many positive strengths. I personally believe I would make a good leader because of my strengths. On an online strength finder quiz I took, my top results are self-motivation, faith, adaptability, resourcefulness, and communication. I agree with some of these results but really, I know what my personal strengths are because I believe they tie into my values. I will no matter what stick to my most important values which include ...
As our text says, there is no one definitive definition that best encapsulates the true nature of what “leadership” really is. For me, I would define leadership as the ability to influence and share with others the understanding of how something is to be done in order to accomplish a particular goal, task, or objective. Leadership doesn’t necessarily mean “to lead”. As mentioned in our previous class, anyone can be a leader. You don’t have to be in a position of power to display active leadership. Leadership is an ability that we can learn, improve upon, and share as we grow as individuals. Leaders may not all share the same vision and purpose but they all have the power to influence others in the way they choose to act, behave, and make decisions. This is how I see leadership to be based on my own beliefs and experiences.
I define Leadership as a person’s ability to guide or shepherd a herd through/to a common destination – a destination of common beliefs. The leader possesses qualities/traits that can persuade others to follow them because they believe and trust them – regardless of their “human” traits and imperfections. The herd trusts that they will stay on course to the common destination.
Being a leader you need to be in tune with your talents, strength’s, and weaknesses. Personally I feel I have many skills and talents. I am a great friend, I’m trustworthy and dependable. I can step up to the plate if needed and I can take control of certain situations without being told to. I love writing and being able to express my feelings or thoughts through writing and poetry. Along with my talents and skills I also have weaknesses. Knowing your weaknesses is twice as important as knowing your strengths in my opinion. One weakness of mine is being motivated. Once I start a task I will finish it and put 150% effort into it, but actually starting the task is my problem. Another weakness of mine is change. I have a problem with drastic change; I have a comfort with familiarity. With every leader there is going to be strengths and weaknesses and I think it’s very
To perform well as a leader, the leader must identify individual strengths, weaknesses, and potential; acquire knowledge of leadership, power, influence, and authority to get the right things done at the right time.
There are certain essential elements that constitute the definition of leadership. It may refer to the totality of an organization’s top direction-giving functionaries, or the actions applied in providing direction that enables the organization or team to move forward towards a goal. In reality, there are very diverse definitions of leadership depending on the context. Grint’s (2010) summary of leadership definitions that includes the position, the person, the results, and the process, provides a comprehensive view of leadership. While not absolute, this view covers much of the areas where there is consensus on the definition of leadership.
Leadership can be a hard thing to describe and define. In the textbook, Business Ethics, it defines it as, “leadership is the ability or authority to guide and direct others toward a goal (Ferrell, 2015).
"A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be

In order to be a good leader, one must have self-confidence, communication skills, charisma and integrity. These are the fundamental skills that make a good leader. Self-confidence is the attitude that one possesses in which one is not afraid to make decisions based on their ideas. Communication skills allow a leader to convey his or her ideas or thoughts carefully. Charisma is what makes a leader appealing to the public, and integrity is what allows the public to trust and have faith in the leader. Without these skills, a leader would just be mediocre, and not great.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
