Leadership Self Reflection Leadership is found not just at work but all around us. In any situation, leaders take a step forward and take charge of the situation. It can be at home, at work or at any other place. Leaders are never born, they become leaders because they have the credibility and people would love to follow them. This paper describes about my leadership strengths and areas for growth/future study. It also included how these qualities are used in my daily work routine, self-assessment results and a brief explanation on Individual style in leadership. Introduction The most important quality that differentiates a leader from other people is the ability to think strategically. Vision is the most important aspect that drives a leader’s strategy. It is all about where you want to be. Other qualities include Decision making, problem solving, time management, self-motivation, emotional intelligence and many more. Once we know the type of leadership, it is easy to find what leadership skills we have and which we need to develop which is explained in the book “Leadership: Theory, application, skill development (5th ed.) by Lussier and Achua.” Also, Keirsey Style Sorter personality type helps to knowing our temperament type, and work on our weakness and to emerge out as a good leader. According to the Keirsey temperament sorter assessment, the temperament type that fits my personality is ESTJ (Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) (Keirsey & Bates, 1984). After the self-assessment, now I feel confident about my qualities and how I need to deal with people with different personality having very differently thinking and how we can come to a common solution of any problem. In one of the exercise from the text, I dis... ... middle of paper ... ...lanned and things are just not going to work out. A leader with is experience and capability should be able to quickly assess the causes and try and fix those problem. Summary After the self-assessments from the book, now I know what kind of leader I can be, what are the weakness I need to work on and how I can influence my team and the people outside my work environment. This course has taught me many different type of leadership style and one cannot be an effective leader but just following one specific style. To be an effective leader you need to assess the situation and act according to the situations. References: Lussier, R.N. & Achua, C.F. (2010). Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
In this document I will share how I was influenced to believe in my own ability. I will also share how my view about management and leadership was changed in one conversation and how that conversation boosted my confidence. I will also share the manager that influenced my learning the most and how through not just words but also actions he showed me that being a leader is not being the person sitting in an office barking instructions, but being the leader is someone who keeps motivating his team to want to accomplish more and be more through actions. I will also share my learning through this assignment, and recommendations on fixing
This essay presents five separate phases with each phase offering different challenges for leadership. According to Boulgarides and Cohen the five phases include Innovation, Transition, Growth, Consolidation and Adaptation. The life cycle affect the leadership approach and calls upon different leadership styles throughout each phase. Leadership style is defined as “the relatively consistent pattern of behavior that characterizes a leader” Boulgarides, J. D., & Cohen, W. A. (2001). According to Northouse there are four distinct leadership styles; directing, coaching, supporting and delegating. Each style provides different levels of directive behaviors and supportive behaviors which provide communication, level of comfort for social and emotional support. Northouse, P. G.

A key component to leadership is to master skills that one already possesses. The greatest leaders in the world do not necessarily stem from the best universities or some costly academic background. One of the strongest traits a person can have is understanding what their leadership style is. When one understands his or her leadership style this can work strongly to one 's advantage. The goal is to garner the best results with the least amount of effort whenever possible therefore many particulars exist which can add to this equation and understanding one’s personal leadership style is a great place to start.

In many formal and informal settings, we have often heard the word “leadership”. Although this term is found in many textbooks, writings, news clippings, college level courses and papers, leadership is a concept that is consistently evolving. Leadership isn’t an attribute that individuals are born with. Although individuals are born with certain characteristics and traits of a leader, those traits are honed throughout the course of a lifetime.

The first assessment I completed was very eye opening for me as a leader. As expected, my score for the overall potential of my leadership was on the higher end of the scale because of my background and amount of experience I have in leadership positions. This assessment portrayed a very accurate depiction of my overall leadership potential because I have always placed emphasis on being very good at what I do while working hard to not follow a path that did not work the first time.
I like the fact that the teacher pointed out that leadership can be found everywhere. Leaders don't necessarily exist only in a company where there are a lot of people following you. “Everyone has the potential and possibility to be a leader”. They could be the best at inspiring others, or best at solving problems or dealing with criticism. By and large we all have the necessities to lead and I find, during the group discussions, that the difference and uniqueness of us that give us our own perspective to view and do things. Leadership is also about understanding and combining many different talents and to make them work together to create the best result. There are many kinds of leaders out there, and so many leadership styles. Yet I think we shouldn’t categorised ourselves into one or identify our superiors into one. Why? Because I think it is crucial to be flexible and adapt to which way to lead according to the situations For example, the Democratic style maybe the most popular and most effective, yet it is proved to be counter-productive in urgent occasions requiring instant and firm decisions from one person only, and that is the
My personality ENTJ that's it, but what is that exactly? According to the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test online I am a slight extravert, intuitive, thinking and judging person. Some might even say I am arrogant and straightforward which and I tend to be “on-duty” all the time which are also traits that were affirmed. I feel sure they did not score my answers correctly as I consider myself more an introvert. Before I began taking the online test I thought I was an open-minded and optimistic person with tendencies to be more creative versus organized with a high preference for introversion, but, after careful reading I was an introvert but have now pushed myself to become a slight extrovert with the test results leaving me feeling empowered that the traits I actually strive for are becoming my beliefs.

Through module four and five I have completed five self -assessments: people skills, anger management, team effectiveness, leadership skills, and management skills. These tests have taught me even more information about myself, and ways to improve my skills to be completely effective. I am working towards a business management degree so getting feedback and tips on topics and situations pertaining to my major, such as negotiations and conflicts, has been a huge gain for me that I use and keep with me throughout my academic and personal life. I have already noticed a change in the way I communicate due to the helpful feedback I had received and seeing positive results has made me even more motivated to work on my weakness. This weeks tests
