Intro
As individuals learn to become leaders, it is important for them to understand the importance of building relationships and the inclusion of all stakeholders. Positive relationships between subordinates and leaders are instrumental in achieving goals and creating motivation (Notgrass, 2014). This PowerPoint will discuss an issue in higher education and give three possible solutions. It will also discuss how the relational leadership model assists in solving the problem, which solution is geared more towards this model, and a plan for implementing the solution. It will also discuss the benefits and challenges of using the relational leadership model, and the traits that are needed for a relational leader. (106 words)

The campus service office would prepare the event, and the faculty would be engaging with the students. This would entail inviting local high school students to campus to learn about the programs that the university has to offer. This is not an ideal solution. This solution includes the campus service office and faculty from the university, and it does not involve individuals from outside of the group. (165 words)
Solution #3
The third solution is including the local high schools’ employees, parents, and the university’s administration and faculty in discussing ways that the university can better serve the students. This solution is the best solution for the relational leadership model. The relational leadership model is the building of relationships, and it is a community effort (Wood & Dibben, 2015). Traits of the Relational Leadership Model Leader
Purposeful Traits:
Leaders must be able to promote the vision or mission to stakeholders in a meaningful way that everyone can relate to and involves everyone (Komives et al., 2013).
Inclusiveness Traits:
Listening skills in a leader is important. By being able to listen to others, it allows others to feel included in the mission and assists in creating an inclusive atmosphere for all stakeholders (Komives et al., 2013).
Empowering Traits:
By encouraging others, it allows the stakeholders to be committed to the mission and creates a collaborative environment (Komives et al., 2013). Stakeholders will converse openly because they will feel that they have the right to be heard (Komives et al., 2013). Transparency and sharing of information will also assist in building relationships (Sanders, 2018). (112
ideals of leadership which could apply in a general case. This model emphasizes the fact that most leadership occurs in interpersonal interaction over an exposition to a large crowd. According to Scholl who performed a study at Jr. Labor Research Center, because leadership is constantly being evaluated by organizational members, superiors, and the public, there are always groups involved in the process as opposed to having a “formal leader” take charge (Scholl, 2003, pp. 2). He goes on to state that even though leadership assigns value to the individual role, there is never a point where the leader in that specific role exerts an absolute sphere of influence without competing claims (Scholl, 2003, pp.3). The process of exercising this type of leadership is inclusive and ethical because it gives an agency to everyone who is a part of the organization (Komives, 2007, p.74). Each person is a part of the leadership process because just be being a follower under a leader there is a relationship attached to oneself. This model is not descriptive but rather prescriptive. It tells one how to act and how to effectively lead rather than simply describe a process which can be observed in nature. The components of leadership involved include inclusivity of others views, the empowerment of those involved, being purposeful with one's goal and aligning others with that goal, and being ethical with good morals. As part of this model each component of this model must be part of a process which includes knowing, being, and doing (Komives, 2007, p.76). Knowing, being, and doing is an interrelated process which influences the leaders thinking and behavior. Knowing i...
James McGregor Burns was one of the first people to come up with a definition of transformational leadership (Bromley). Transformational leadership is great, but Burns made a quote in his book Leadership that should be recognized, “The aim of leadership is not to just reach a goal, but also transform leaders and followers into better, more self-actualized leaders” (Komives and Wagner). This quote really explains what leadership means to me, not only as a person leading a group, but also learning how to follow as well.

Growing up in a rough neighborhood, positive role models were not present in my everyday life. Fortunately, I created a personal understanding of what it took to be a true leader when Marcelo Neveleff became my coach. Coach Marcelo was my club soccer coach throughout my teenage years, and Marcelo demonstrated three key tenets that made me realize what it took to be a great leader. From his guidance and inspiration, I have drawn that in order to become a successful leader, I must be goal oriented through determination within myself by leading from the front. This reflects that there is a specific goal that I, as a leader, must be willing to reach that will inspire others to do the same. To become a successful leader, I must also be empathetic

In the beginning of chapter three, it described how the role of the relational leadership should be a process that raises all participants to levels at which they can become effective leaders. In my personal opinion, Shane actually used this method on us and by sharing the role of the leader in the classroom,
Leadership Theories Good leaders are those who possess strong traits that give them the capability to influence, motivate and encourage others to do a particular task. Some of these traits are drive, honesty, integrity, confidence, business knowledge, charisma and emotional maturity. According to Baack (2012), these traits differentiate them from the followers. Though many research studies have been conducted over the last three decades and core traits have been identified, there is still some controversy over whether possessing these traits will necessarily make a good leader. " ’Nardelli brought discipline.
Groups and organizations are embedded into everyday life. We are either a part of one or a witness the one. Chapter twelve of Exploring Leadership by Komives discusses the organization system of an organization. This chapter explores how the five aspects of the Relational Leadership Model is apparent in organizations. Some of the main takeaways were the organization systems, leadership in organizations and organizational culture.
“The trait approach looks at the personal attributes of leaders” (Yukl, 1989). For example, creativity, passion, determination, innovation, foresight. The power-influence approach examines the effectiveness of leadership to a person in terms of different power that person possesses. (Yukl, 1989)

Trait theories are theories that consider personal qualities and characteristics that differentiate leaders from nonleaders." Early results aimed at confirming this theory were inconclusive. Many research studies were conducted and each identified key traits supposed to differentiate leaders from nonleaders. The problem is that they didn't get the same results, thus failing to discover common traits, which should have shown in each research study. When applying the Big Five Personality framework (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience) to the study and research of leadership traits, results were more encouraging. They showed that the most important trait for leaders was extraversion. Still, this founding sh...
Parents and community members want to know that their contributions towards the campus are valued and appreciated. Many times we take for granted those events occurring around us. It is crucial we express gratitude towards those people investing in increasing student achievement. Stakeholders want to feel accepted and worthy in their contributions to the campus. In addition, communities are made up of different types of culture, race and income status making the culture diverse which may act as a barrier in creating a positive atmosphere. Yet, this type of misunderstanding can be avoided by simply asking questions in a respectful manner. School leaders must make parent and community involvement a priority, valuing and accepting each other’s differences. “Schools provide wonderful opportunities to bring together students, families, educators and other community members to build the collaborative partnerships that promote quality educational, recreational, and social opportunities for all citizens” (Lechtenberger and Mullins, 2004, p. 21). Schools, parents and community members must work together to support all students in a learning environment to ensure every student is a successful lifetime
The student use skills acquired at school to entertain and serve members of the community. For instance, student’s drama clubs can perform some interesting drama to entertain senior citizens at their homes or on any special occasion.
