For this week class, we applied a new teaching style for the class environment, which the roles of students and instructor were revised. The main focus of the lesson is based on the Relational Leadership Model, but this new method helped us to have deeper understandings of the materials. Just like Shane said before we started applying the method “The way you look at the readings will be different based on your role of teacher or student.”
In the beginning of chapter three, it described how the role of the relational leadership should be a process that raises all participants to levels at which they can become effective leaders. In my personal opinion, Shane actually used this method on us and by sharing the role of the leader in the classroom,

The book demonstrates a couple of different ways in which people define leadership. The first is that leadership is being connected to a
ideals of leadership which could apply in a general case. This model emphasizes the fact that most leadership occurs in interpersonal interaction over an exposition to a large crowd. According to Scholl who performed a study at Jr. Labor Research Center, because leadership is constantly being evaluated by organizational members, superiors, and the public, there are always groups involved in the process as opposed to having a “formal leader” take charge (Scholl, 2003, pp. 2). He goes on to state that even though leadership assigns value to the individual role, there is never a point where the leader in that specific role exerts an absolute sphere of influence without competing claims (Scholl, 2003, pp.3). The process of exercising this type of leadership is inclusive and ethical because it gives an agency to everyone who is a part of the organization (Komives, 2007, p.74). Each person is a part of the leadership process because just be being a follower under a leader there is a relationship attached to oneself. This model is not descriptive but rather prescriptive. It tells one how to act and how to effectively lead rather than simply describe a process which can be observed in nature. The components of leadership involved include inclusivity of others views, the empowerment of those involved, being purposeful with one's goal and aligning others with that goal, and being ethical with good morals. As part of this model each component of this model must be part of a process which includes knowing, being, and doing (Komives, 2007, p.76). Leader is the most substantial element of successful organizations. Becoming outstanding leaders, leadership skill is vital in order to drive the organizations forward. Several leadership principles are extensively used these days. Burns (1978) identified two types of leadership comprise of transactional and transformational leadership. Hence, leaders should be capable to indicate which theory should be applied in accordance with organization’s culture and objectives. Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Leadership is found not just at work but all around us. In any situation, leaders take a step forward and take charge of the situation. It can be at home, at work or at any other place. Leaders are never born, they become leaders because they have the credibility and people would love to follow them.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
Education institutions were eager to adapt to pedagogical approach; it was is teacher-centered. The teacher determined what will be taught, when will it be taught, how it will be taught, and if it was learned the way he/she taught the lesson. As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth. Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher. Of the topics discussed in this class, commitment to students, avoiding burnout and reflective practices had the biggest impact on my professional growth.
