I got the basic knowledge and skills for my placement such as communication skills, food and beverage service skills and the understanding of all the procedures that a hospitality employee should know. For example, my knowledge in Wine Fundamental and Food & Beverage Service subject is the basic knowledge about the skills that I will need when working in the industry, such as how to carry dishes, how to serve and food & wine combination for suggestive sale. My position in the placement is as a food and beverage attendant in Intercontinental Hotel. The main tasks of a food and beverage attendant are: - Look after the necessary preparations before the start of any functions (MVP). For example, we have to polish/prepare the necessary amount of glassware, napkins, tray, cutleries and other supplies; set up the table and the bar. - Studies the menu and being aware of the specialties (ex. cocktail of the day) as well as any out-of-stock items - Take order and serve food and
...n educated in class. The only new information I encounter is the discrimination towards customers and harassment. Knowledge on how corporation runs and the liability I have already learned in class. What I take out of this interview is that by operating a restaurant and providing service to customers, the owner should always keep the customer’s comfort in mind. Beside the customer, they also need to mind the environment as to how the employee should act with one another; where no one experience threatens or uncomfortable towards each other. I do hope however that in class we will cover harassment but with the limited schedule it won’t be allow. However, the matter on Employment Discrimination will be discussed which is also a big deal in the work industry. Even Nori Nori has a policy that provides equal opportunity towards all current employees and future employees.

Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process in whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details. I don't mind taking the time out to get the details. Yes, it may take some time up front and may not lead to a quick decision but in the long run it prevents mistakes and errors as well as misjudging which can lead to more heartache and pain down the road. Loyalty is also very important to me in the work center. Knowing that you are devoted and committed to the success of the organization will motivate your people to do the same. They also need to know that they can come to you with a problem whether it is personal or work related. This will allow them to be more open to bringing problems to your attention that could later have a disastrous effect on the organization in the future. Both pers...

... due to more significant strength of relationship. This finding was not expected, since the reviewed literature emphasized that motivation is the main factor for improvement of job performance, yet the emotional intelligence became a stronger predictor of such phenomenon, perhaps due to specificity of jobs in hospitality industry. Although the majority of literature discuss the proposed relationship on the level of permanent employees, it is impossible to ignore the number of hospitality students that enter the industry in a role of the interns every year, because their performance still might affect customers’ satisfaction and the operations of the whole organization. The research results present the possible tools for interns’ performance enhancement, such as, accurate understanding of motivational needs and development of emotional intelligence as a competency.
