McDonalds believe that good customer service is the responsibility of everybody in the company. Every employee has a part to play in providing with a service with best practise found anywhere in the trade.
Products
McDonalds provide high quality products, such as burgers, fries, drinks, muffins, etc, which are safe and reliable that it does what it is supposed to do, but not only does the quality of the products matter, the good value for money affects the business. E.g. buy one extra value meal and get one free with a food voucher that represents the offer only. They ensure that a high standard of the product is carried out at all times and they try to compete very competitively with other fast food businesses with their good value for money. Also a customer would know if the product is good value for money by checking in another food outlet like KFC for their services and products.
McDonalds also play a role especially into the goods being safe to use and being very reliable with provided instructions. This will benefit the customer's safety and hoping to be very reliable during the customer's use because its helps the business to increase it sales by keeping the existing customers and attracting new ones.
The products of McDonalds are safely packaged when it is required for the product, in order the customer does not have any problems or and negative feedbacks to McDonalds. E.g. hot coffee cups have plastic lids on top so it does not spill or burn on the customer. Also, McDonalds ensure to offer nutritional guide of the product clearly state what the product contains.
Staff
However, not only the high quality standards of food affects the business, the staff who are presently providing the service are entitled to establishes him or her self with their tone (the sound of the voice), manner (the level of maturity), language and body language well enough to satisfy the customer and to make them appreciated of feeling more welcomed and values them as a proper customer. E.g. if a customer was about to speak the staff operating the till would say hello, may I take your order please,' and when their products are given Thank you and please come again.'
Also, the staffs are to wear the correct McDonald's uniform, so they will be easily noticed by customers, if they need help by the staff wearing black trousers and top with a McDonalds logo on the t-shirt.
The reason as to why is because both stores and restaurants have supervision by higher-ranking managers and bosses. Another area in my life that has been McDonald’s is my school. My school fits under Rules and regulations because responsibilities are written down and clearly stated. Almost every student who starts school is given a handbook, the handbook has our responsibilities written down on it.

The use of this sign reinforces to people that McDonald's is an icon in our society and many people will equate that large number with McDonald's being the best restaurant ever.
McDonald's current customer environment is people on the go or people who don't want to spend a lot while going out and need something quick and good to eat. It is best stated in McDonald's mission statement that they want to be the world's best quick service restaurant experience. As stated before, McDonald's has restaurants in 121 countries and has extensive global experience in customer service and satisfaction. McDonald's is excellent at researching an international area before building restaurant there. For example, in India McDonald's realized that the majority of the population was Hindu and vegetarian, they therefore, did not even bother to put beef or any other red meat on the menu.
Before coming to India, McDonald’s spent close to 5 years in vendor development so as to get the best menu suited to the needs and fitted to the cultural aspects in India. It also established the “cold chain supply system” across India to maintain the nutrition and freshness of the products. This was in conjunction with their philosophy of QSQV (Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value) which still works as the primary philosophy through which it operates in India. After ensuring a strong supply chain network it opened its first outlet in Delhi in 1996.
With strength ultimately comes weakness and McDonald's has its fair share, especially in the last few years. Many weaknesses are due to the external environment which includes market saturation, increased price competition, and food and labor costs. McDonald's also focuses on the perception of value within it line of products and therefore takes care to price its menu items accordingly. Different products are priced differently depending on which target audience those items appeal to most. An extensive value menu is an essential part of any fast-food menu in recent years. The prices and products within the value menu can prove to be areas that will make or break a fast-food companies' year depending on the competitions value menus.
Have you ever wondered how the business empire of McDonalds was started? With over ninety nine billion served, it was started in 1940 in San Bernardino, California. It was started off as just a Bar-B-Q that served just twenty items. Its first mascot was named “Speedee” They eventually realized that by setting up their kitchen like an assembly line that they could be much more productive and get their food done faster, with every employee doing a specified job; the restaurants production rate became much higher. A milkshake machine vendor came into their small restaurant one day, his name was Ray Kroc.
For many important and well known companies its people are most important asset. For McDonald’s this applies as well. Employees who demonstrate positive attitudes and ability of commitment strive to be number one in customer satisfaction. For this same reason, McDonalds’s restaurants focus on attracting and hiring the best and at the same time provide the best place to work. Unfortunately McDonald’as well as other companies have to experience staff turnover. Many of these reasons consist of changing careers, going back to school, leaving the area, and even new opportunities they are offered. Although, it can be very expensive to recruit and train staff to reduce turnover, McDonald’ reinforces these steps and makes sure they choose wisely and also treat their staff well. McDonald’ needs and looks for people who want to exceed and deliver great customer satisfaction service. In order for them to make sure they select the best, they must identify quality skills, and or behaviors that applicants must demonstrate in order to be hired and be part of McDonald’s family. Every position or job description has an outline of the regular duties and or responsibilities McDonald’ want their employees to follow. McDonald’ also has a person specification where personal skills and competences can be defined of each applicant.
In today’s market, McDonalds faces numerous challenges such as fierce competition, a more health conscious customer, and the continual need for improved customer satisfaction and menu. McDonalds needs to go through some changes in order to remain ahead in the fast-food industry.
Product is fairly similar to competitors – the McDonalds menu is quite similar to many of its competitors such as Burger King and Wendy’s. This forces McDonald 's to have to lower its prices in order to continue to be competitive.
However, quality is not fully valued by these points. In fact, McDonald’s operates with a consistent quality product. It can be determined by supervising the operations of any McDonalds’ restaurant. The company has certain standards of cooking dishes, if it is volume oriented and each customer impact on product is not so high, McDonalds pertains to the top-quality operation. On the other hand, McDonalds doesn’t compromise its consumers’ comprehension about quality. From the whole history of the company, it is known that this restaurant has gone through the big quantity of quality inspections in all countries, where its restaurants are located. McDonalds uniform menu offerings can be mass produced; therefore helps to lower production costs. Additionally, the company bargaining power with its suppliers lowers its input costs and boost margins and even more importantly, McDonald 's offers a very large advertising budget which gives the company a significant competitive advantage over its competitors. Customer service by definition is the ability of knowledgeable, capable, and enthusiastic employees to deliver products and services to their internal and external customers in a manner that satisfies identified and unidentified needs and ultimately results in positive word-of-mouth publicity and return business (Lucas, 2012, pg.7). In other words, it’s making the customer pleased so that they keep doing business with you all while making sure that the employees get along and work together well. In every business there is a form of customer service. Unfortunately, it is not always excellent or even decent. Some businesses just either don’t care or possibly just don’t have the training to deal with some of the obstacles that come with dealing with customers on a daily basis. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 13 years and I can tell you that there are skills that some are born with and others need training on, yet either way they should be used whenever interacting with customers.
