An occupation is anything that has or will occupy your time. Every one has their own occupational history. It is important to know what is involved in performing your occupations correctly. An occupational history includes any of your past, present and future occupations. My personal occupational history includes being a softball player, a waitress, a mother, and in the future an occupational therapist assistant.
One of my past occupations was a leisure, which was being a softball player. The specific duties required to be a softball player are hitting, throwing, catching, and fielding the ball. Some of the physical abilities required are endurance, gross coordination, reflex, and postural control. You need endurance in softball because there

Good reflexes are required so when you are fielding the ball you can be quick on your feet to go towards whichever direction the ball goes. Postural control is needed for when you are running the bases so you can keep in an upright position and not fall over. The psycho social skills that are required are: interest, social conduct, self control, and interpersonal skills. You need interest since it is a leisure and needs to be something that you enjoy and brings you pleasure doing. Social conduct skills so you can communicate with your team mates in a socially accepted manner. Self control so that if you loose a game you can control your emotions. Interpersonal skills so that can communicate non-verbally with the coaches on different plays throughout the game. The mental skills required are attention span and sequencing. You need to have attention span skills so that you can focus on the game in front of you and which plays are being played. Sequencing is important in softball so that you know which play to do first, which base to run, as well as the order in which to do hitting and …show more content…
Some of the specific duties of a waitress are taking orders, delivering drinks and food to the table, communication skills, and cleaning up the tables afterwards. The physical abilities required for a waitress are endurance, bilateral integration, oral-motor control, and postural control. You need to have endurance when being a waitress so that you can endure the quickness of moving throughout the restaurant while holding drinks and heavy plates. You need bilateral integration skills because you constantly use both sides of your body and both hands while caring for the guest. You need oral-motor control so that you can decipher what a guest is saying while taking their order as well as still caring for them throughout the visit. The mental skills required for a waitress are attention span, sequencing, and initiation of activity as well as termination of activity. The psycho social skills needed for a waitress are interpersonal skills, time management, social conduct, and role performance. You need to have good interpersonal skills so that you can interact with your guest and customers. You use time management when delivering food and drinks so you make sure they get everything in a timely manner. You need social conduct so that you know how to act with your guest as well as with your other employees, and role performance is important so that you know that your role is within the job and act accordingly. The senses that you
... pitcher in the league. Baseball is one of the best sports to play to keep you active and sharpen your reflexes. Everyone should try playing baseball at least once in their life. Or maybe even learn to just throw a few different kinds of pitches like curveball and knuckleball, incase their children grow up playing baseball.
Though the practices performed within softball literacy do not immediately seem as if they should be considered a literacy practice, according to two of the six propositions about the nature of literacy, it is. Not only does it involve the physical performance from a play, but also includes formal writings, new rules and regulations, and offer different rules in different countries. I think softball should be counted as a literacy practice because it appeals to Barton and Hamilton’s propositions and includes artifacts that make it a community and artifacts that provide the players with essential people skills.
A person that would like to play professional ball will choose baseball because there is a professional big league, such as the St. Louis Cardinals, but in softball that opportunity is not available. Baseball is played on more levels than softball. It is played on the professional, international, Olympic, college, high school, and little league levels. If a player is fortunate enough to make it to the professional level, he can make millions of dollars.
Baseball/softball was, is, and always will be one of the most popular sports of all time. Homeruns, stealing second base, and spectacular plays and catches on the playing field will continue to catch the eyes of millions of people around the globe. Today I’m going to give you a brief demonstration of how the game of baseball/softball is played.
Now if you're anything like me, you know that when you start a sport for the first time. You have questions like my first question, “what in the world is softball”. Well now that I am a”softball”player I can tell you all there is to know about softball. Softball is a game between two teams with two sections to the field in field and outfield. There is the pitcher, the catcher, 1st,2nd,and3rd baseman, shortstop, and left, right, and center field.
My small, sweaty palms griped the cold fence as I looked on nervously at my brother’s baseball game. I was waiting for the final out of the game so that I could run onto the field and around the bases as I did after every game. As a young child, my parents were always searching for something to keep me entertained. I was a bubbly child with an endless amount of energy. Being that I was the only girl amongst four boys, I was always electrified in their presence. I wanted to be involved in all their wrestling, running and playing. Being the type of child who loved to play, I would stay outside until I was forced to come in. I would run along the dimly lit street, making up my own games and making new friends. Even when I got older, my energy did not fade. At
Baseball is a very well known sport and often known as “America’s pastime” and softball is highly similar, but with a few key differences. Many people just assume that the sport of baseball is more difficult than softball, but don’t actually know the specific parts of each of the two. Also, if you’ve never played one or the other sport, you shouldn’t be assuming anything at all in the first place. Although many assume one may be harder than the other, baseball and softball both have particular factors which make them both complex in their own way.

Whether it is the angle needed to swing the bat, the force needed to kick the ball, or the speed needed to run, physics is present in every aspect of every sport. Players become aware at a young age that physics will be a part of their lives for as long as they play a sport, even if they are not aware of it. From the moment a child starts a sport, the many different methods used to improve revolve around physics. Softball is a prime example of this. Physics plays a role in softball because every aspect of this sport requires a certain momentum and force. Players must aim to achieve the skill to be able to use the physics behind the sport to their advantage. Through the use of hitting, catching, and throwing a softball, there is the need to
I have known from a young age that I wanted to help people, and since then I have searched for the opportunity and knowledge to be able to do just that. On that note, seeing the joy on my uncle’s face, after losing both of his legs and having to learn to walk again with prosthesis’s was so uplifting for me, to witness him so happy even though I wasn’t involved with his healing process. Consequently, I could only imagine how good it would feel to know that I helped him regain his independence and return a smile to his face. That was when I realized that I wanted to give back to people that are in need of assistance. These individuals may not be able to do anything about the position they are in, Hence when I become an Occupational therapist; I will
I work at a restaurant that has twenty-four tables that are seated during each shift. The other waitresses and I each have a section of tables each shift and we refer to different tables to address which people have food. We have had to memorize the menus and learn a simple way to take peoples order in a way that suits our memory. Some waitresses can abbreviate words and have memorized each abbreviation like a code. I have very small handwriting and can generally write fast so that I can understand the orders I took as I record them into the touch-screen computer to send into the kitchen. From there the line-workers decipher when which orders can be cooked and the ingredients that go into each dish. Waitressing has also allowed me to read patrons facial expressions and mannerisms to tell whether they might be looking for something or how they feel about the food and service. This job has especially helped me learn how to utilize my time appropriately and
After many hours of practice I had mastered catching and throwing, which is needed to be successful in softball. At this point I was able to catch and throw a softball voluntarily and efficiently. Also, I was able to adequately perform various tasks subconsciously. For example, when I played on third base, if the ball came to me I was able to determine where to throw it next without having to put much thought into it. In addition, I could also adapt to various changes. For example, I knew how to adjust my performance when playing on a flat field vs. a hilly field. On a hilly field, I would make sure to examine where the bumps were so that when I ran to catch the ball I wouldn't trip and miss it. As I achieved skillfulness I become more consistent with my catches and throws. When I first started playing softball, on average, I would catch about 60% of the balls thrown at me. When I reached this age I was catching about 95% of the
Occupational Therapy is a health care designed to treat an individual’s disability and difficulty to improve their performance in their daily life activities. The term occupation does not only refer to the job of an individual but refers to what they do in their everyday lives, which is why any individual, regardless of age, may benefit from occupational therapy. Occupation is everything people do to occupy themselves, which includes work, leisure, and self care (CAOT). An occupational therapy program aims to improve the individual’s performance and engagement because of their physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.
Consistent with the concept that occupation is the foundation stone of occupational therapy, this research paper makes a case for the importance of acknowledging the central position of occupation in all definitions of occupational therapy. Having a clear and easily recognizable definition of occupational therapy is imperative if the profession is to survive the current challenges, such as competition for limited resources, other professions widening the scope of their practice, and pressure for generic rather than specialist workers.
Baseball requires a lot of skill Involving hand-eye coordination, strength, and a little speed. Throwing most likely requires the most strength because of the amount of shoulder and arm use. Be careful when throwing over handed though because not using right mechanics may mess up certain ligaments in the shoulder and elbow. Hitting is another big part of the game it requires stronger muscles in the legs and also a drop in the shoulder before bringing the bat forward, the downward pull of gravity allows for greater bat speed which causes the ball to go farther when hit. Running bases requires another amount of skill not only is there a need to have an overall sense of where the ball is at, but also having to watch footing and making sure to touch the bases. Fielding requires athleticism and timing, it requires an individual to move in front of the ball, squeeze the glove, stand up and then continue to throw the ball for an out. Catching in the outfield is another major part of the game it requires great hand –eye coordination and overall body control. Pure instinct is another skill needed, from the crack of the bat a player has to be able to l...
