Writing is an important process which allows you to communicate professionally and academically, in an effective manner. Therefore, when writing it can be applied to any situation. It is best described when you are interacting between persons, places, and things. However, when taking ENG 3010, the main focus in the course was to analyze your academic major or future profession. More importantly, you had to learn how to identify different genres and how to develop your writing skills for particular contexts, purposes, and target audiences. When writing in these various scenarios, I found it to be a bit challenging. I was faced with these challenges only because I was unfamiliar with the writing situations. It was different from any other English course because the approaches suggested that you write for an audience only in your major. But with focusing on my writing skills within my discourse community, I was able to take my writing to a different level. The challenges that I faced became knowledge. It has helped me to ensure that all of my papers have balance and are well organized. As a result, I have developed strong skills with identifying modes of writing and communicating in my discourse community, research skills such as: writing a research proposal, literature review, annotated bibliography and proposing a working thesis. With these skills that I have developed from this course, I will be able to achieve the goals that are needed in my future classes and in the workplace after college. The first learning outcome in this course is to produce writing that demonstrated my ability to identify, describe, and analyze various occasions for writing, genres, conventions, and audiences in my discipline or profession from a rhetori... ... middle of paper ... ...rove on the next project. I believe some of the ways that I improve was by the organization of my paper. I’ve learned the proper way to make my paper flow correctly. In Project I, the organization was horrible. I felt like I could not find the correct way to transition my paragraphs, so it seem like I continued to jump from topic to topic without producing a good transition word to make everything flow. However, towards the end of the semester that was something that I worked on and it shows throughout the rest of my work. In the end, ENG 3010 has taught me different strategies for writing in my discourse community. At first, it was a bit challenging because I was unfamiliar with the writing situations. However, this writing experience is something that I am grateful that I learn. With these strategies I will be able to use them in future classes and the workplace.
“On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft” is not written in the traditional textbook format. The structure of this book works as an educational tool is because it offers a personal look at how writing has affected one successful novelist's life. Each section of the book contains something important about the craft of writing. The book also includes a great deal of about the personal impact writing has had on Stephen King's life.
From this course I have learned that being a writer is much more than writing grammatically correct. A writer is one who studies deeply and takes into mind the audience and the context and then begins to form their paper. Writers are rhetor’s, encoders, and members of discourse communities. As a writer, I hold the power to influence anyone that reads my writing, whether I intend to influence that person or not. Being a writer from my understanding this semester should actually be called a rhetor or encoder, because just about every piece of writing contains rhetoric and intertextuality of some sort, whether you consciously recognize it or not. I find that the knowledge, skills, and new ideas I have acquired this semester will significantly influence not only my college career but also benefit my life in general.
English Composition II has unexpectedly improved my writing into an academic level. As I studied various English reading and writing courses, this class “English Composition II” did not immediately caught my eye. However as I researched about the concepts of this class, the decision to make was not so difficult since I was lacking in critical thinking and the interpretation of works. Also as a Business Major, it made sense that the subject of English would be of interest to me and as a career requirement. During the first weeks, I thought that I would be fully prepared for this course after taking an accelerated course in English during the spring semester. However, after attending class for about a month, I certainly did not expect to learn an entirely new process of writing

Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
In conclusion, this class has truly been an invaluable learning experience for me. From finally figuring out how to correctly use the MLA format to effectively eliminating my procrastinating habits, the class has given me multiple opportunities to grow as a writer. I have developed an organizational pattern of success for me to write successfully in the future and have gained the confidence I desired to aggressively handle future written assignments. This class has allowed me to improve in areas I was already competent in and has made me address the areas where I was weak. Learning how to use the research tools available is an amazing skill that will be highly marketable no matter which career I decide to pursue. The foundation I have built by attending this class will enable me to be an expert in communicating with others in writing.
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.

The course has a clear transition and link between writing and concepts of the discourse community. Students being members of a writing discourse community can learn about the discourse groups that they will join in the future. As Gee Swales suggest that one can belong to different discourse groups at one time, the concept of transferring skills from one context to another is the most significant section of the curriculum. The essay will give a reflection of the course, explore the link between writing and discourse community and give a recommendation that can be used to enhance the objectivity of the course curriculum.
Coming from English 1010 I thought I was done learning and growing as a writer, but I was able to further develop my English skills in new ways by exploring my writing ecology. I came into this class having an understanding of how to format different essays, what Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are, and felt that I had a strong understanding of discourse communities. This semester I was able to further expand and really focus on my community discourses I am a part of. I was also able to demonstrate that I use writing and reading in my discourse community I am in.
Fiction writing challenges her because she has to invent scenarios and characters. As a result, Sophia is really good at writing research papers, but she struggles in her creative writing classes. Remediation for Clip D – 25 to 35 seconds Audio Elise has to select the appropriate genre of the short story she just read on her English exam.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing. By concentrating on the beginning stages of my writings, I could distinguish ahead of time my audience and my message. As a result, my essays are clear, and I remain on topic. In addition to that using transition phrases efficiently also helps my writing to flow smoothly. The proper use of transitions makes my writings easy to follow from one topic to the next. I also learned that pre-writing...
In conclusion, as english as a secondary language, writing and reading skills play an important role in my everyday life even though most of us don't notice it. In this class I have improved a lot and now it is easier to me to understand the fundamentals of English and how important they
Writing remains the most important communication skill that every individual must acquire. Success in writing depends on how a person thinks and understands that which is being written and the approach taken in the writing task (Irvin 6). Throughout this course, I must sincerely confess that I have developed my writing and thinking skills to a level where I can communicate effectively in different contexts using written messages. Firstly, I have learned that success in writing requires a person to write clearly. This calls for acquisition of knowledge on the various writing conventions and guidelines.
Having gone through my primary level and the secondary level, it gave me the opportunity and privilege of getting to like the manner at which the writers were using different types of writing techniques to make their stories interesting. It gave me that burning desire to be among the top writers in the universe when my time comes. Throughout this essay, I am going to give some of the reasons as to why I decided to enroll in the course and the advantages of writing towards my academic skills and professional life.
