My progression as a writer has steadily improved over the past semester. Expanding sentence variety and experiencing in-class discussion has elevated my writing style to another level. I have learned how to successfully attack time management issues head on and how to research effectively. My ability to present information in a logical and organized fashion has reached new heights and my punctuation has become much better. I have improved upon areas that I was already competent in while addressing the weaker aspects of my writing. This class has been an invaluable learning experience that granted me many opportunities to become a masterful writer. One of those opportunities was the persuasive paper assignment.
The persuasive paper assignment was challenging and insightful as it gave me an opportunity to express my new skills that I had learned over the course of this class. I started by taking the research opportunities I was given and narrowing down what I was hoping to talk about gave my paper an excellent foundation. Even though I may not have spent as much time as I would have liked to on the project, I still presented an excellent work product due to the application of the skills I had learned from this class. After gathering my research and thoroughly knowing my topic I created an outline that logically presented the information I was presenting in an organized manner that would be easy for anyone to follow. With the outline completed, I moved on to creating the meat of my paper and adding thoughtful examples and analysis to the expert testimony I sprinkled throughout the paper. Applying the finishing touches to the persuasive paper I know that it was a solid paper made possible by the improvement I have evidenced by partici...

In conclusion, this class has truly been an invaluable learning experience for me. From finally figuring out how to correctly use the MLA format to effectively eliminating my procrastinating habits, the class has given me multiple opportunities to grow as a writer. I have developed an organizational pattern of success for me to write successfully in the future and have gained the confidence I desired to aggressively handle future written assignments. This class has allowed me to improve in areas I was already competent in and has made me address the areas where I was weak. Learning how to use the research tools available is an amazing skill that will be highly marketable no matter which career I decide to pursue. The foundation I have built by attending this class will enable me to be an expert in communicating with others in writing.
Another thing that I learned from taking this course is how to build a better writing and reading skills. Acknowledging reading and writing skills will help me to succeed in my other university courses.
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
My portfolio absolutely reflects my understanding of persuasive writing. Persuasive writing focuses on the ability to formulate an essay that takes an argumentative stance, but takes the opposition into consideration as well. My portfolio also represents the goals and objectives of persuasive writing. The essays I have written for this course demonstrate that I have certainly developed my critical thinking skills, and developed, or better yet, mastered my communication and personal responsibility skills; but, because of my occasional lack of analysis and issues with word choice, my writing process is not perfected.
As a student, I have learned many different skills that I will take with me throughout my journey from this course. We have traversed many different types of writing styles, which any college student, or any person for that
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.

Because it was on a topic I thoroughly enjoyed, I overcame the intimidation of the research paper. With the extensive research and sources, I no longer viewed length as an issue. After presenting my project at the end of the semester and receiving a good grade, I gained confidence in my abilities as a writer. By the end of Accelerated English III, I realized my progression in not only my writing skills, but my writing style as well. I came into the class inexperienced in writing, but I left better equipped with the help of my teacher, Mrs. Bingham.
At the end of this class and this reflection period of these papers. I realised that I have become a better writer than I have ever been before, because I was finally able to take and recognize my mistakes in my papers. Which allowed me to to see where I needed to fix next to become the best writer I can be, which was shown to me during this time. Now with my new weapons of grammer, organizations, and MLA format I have a great foundation to propel my
Writing is an excellent practice because the benefits gained are essential to an individual’s success in a job, or just conveying their ideas through words. Within the semester we have written three major papers, and have rewritten two of those papers. In each paper I discovered new ways to get information, and have gained more experience in sculpting a paper. Obtaining this new knowledge of how to present my ideas in different writing styles will help me expand my range in how I can write, and essentially allow me to be better prepared for upcoming jobs following my college education. I can safely say that with the papers from this semester and their mistakes that dealt with minor grammar errors, awkward sentence structures, and oversimplifying
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
The average student has written their fair share of persuasive essays. The quality of these essays often depend on the students’ knowledge of the make-up of a good persuasive essay. A major component in persuasive essays is the argument. In order to write a good persuasive essay attention should be focused on the argument. The quality of the argument determines the strength of a persuasive essay. By considering the rhetorical situation in the planning process, and the elements of the argument in the writing process, effective persuasion can be achieved in an essay.
I have always been a book reader and loved a good story, but when I became an avid reader during my 7th grade year I began to think of writing my own stories. At first it was nothing more than an idea, but once I read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit I felt inspired to write a one page spinoff. A short time later, I read Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton. Being a dinosaur lover, I devoured both books and thoroughly enjoyed them but was deeply disappointed that there were no other books in the series.
I've improved overall in my research paper writing methods, and over the course of the summer have gained another useful set of skills to further my college education. If you are going to take a class be prepared to learn from it. Have an attitude of trying to perfect the skills that are going to be taught or else the knowledge won't stick with you as well. The true purpose of learning to write research papers, cite sources, write essays, use correct grammar and punctuation are all means of preparing a person to have the intermediate skills for a professional or business-setting job, if you were ever to be at one. This class greatly improved my confidence in being able to write a clear and well understood research paper, as well as, retaught me methods of English writing I had long forgotten.
My writing skills have not been excellent but this class helped with getting my professional skills at a higher level. As a group we created a google doc, they are easier for everyone to work and help each other complete the Reach Report. The group helped with everyone's ideas being put together. The groups we had helped a lot with completing the research
