Writing remains the most important communication skill that every individual must acquire. Success in writing depends on how a person thinks and understands that which is being written and the approach taken in the writing task (Irvin 6). Throughout this course, I must sincerely confess that I have developed my writing and thinking skills to a level where I can communicate effectively in different contexts using written messages. Firstly, I have learned that success in writing requires a person to write clearly. This calls for acquisition of knowledge on the various writing conventions and guidelines. I am aware of the various writing codes and conventions that apply to various contexts. For instance, I have learnt that when writing for official purpose, it is important to keep everything formal. On the other hand, when writing for friendly contexts such as communicating with a colleague, a friend, or a family member, it is imperative to keep everything informal. A good writer must have sufficient knowledge of the audience, occasion, message, purpose, or documents used to support the written ideas (Irvin 7). As a writer I have realized that it is important to have adequate knowledge of the target audience. A writer should think how the target audience will evaluate the ideas presented to them. This component requires an integration of both reflective and critical thinking skills, where the writer will consider the subject by reflecting on the past experiences before presenting it to the audience. The critical aspect will be required when conducting an assessment of how the recipients will view the message. As the first semester of my sophomore year wraps up, I begin to realize that I have learned a lot in all of my classes. The class that I learned the most from has definitely been my English 111 course. This class have given me so many opportunities to improve my writing skills. With all of the success I’ve had in this class, I believe I will do just fine with writing later in my life.
Before an author begins composing a body of work, there are three requirements necessary to establish beforehand. The composer must first “have a specific purpose and an audience”( Braziller, Kleinfeld, 7). A purpose allows there to be an overall reason to write. The purpose is necessary to persuade, inform, educate, or entertain the reader on a certain topic. The topic can be caused by "the time period, location, current event, or cultural significance (University, 1995-2018 )”. Identifying the audience is necessary since it instructs the composer how to communicate in a way the audience will appreciate and understand. The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills.
I am more knowledgeable about invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, all in which create a masterful piece of text. A few examples, I have learned to organize and construct my thoughts and ideas clearer. I have been taught to use stronger transitions and focus more on the delivery and content of the body element of essays. Further, the instructions and advice I have received throughout this term have influenced my understanding of the purpose of writing. My outlook on writing has been modified by shifting my perception of writing from, writing to prove I am a good writer by perceiving it as using “fluffy” or BIG words to impress my audience. I grew to understanding that good writing’s purpose is to engage the writer by mind-striking ideas and arguments, which therefore will prove and title me as a “good writer”.

Because of these requirements and English not been my first language it has been hard to performance a good writing style.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. As an 8th grader, activities were predictable like turning in our vocabulary charts every tuesday. As a result, writing skills weren’t honed. During the first semester of my freshman year, I was struggling. Writing had always been one of my weaknesses, but writing activities were continuous. During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing.
