My Writing Skills

Writing remains the most important communication skill that every individual must acquire. Success in writing depends on how a person thinks and understands that which is being written and the approach taken in the writing task (Irvin 6). Throughout this course, I must sincerely confess that I have developed my writing and thinking skills to a level where I can communicate effectively in different contexts using written messages. Firstly, I have learned that success in writing requires a person to write clearly. This calls for acquisition of knowledge on the various writing conventions and guidelines. I am aware of the various writing codes and conventions that apply to various contexts. For instance, I have learnt that when writing for official purpose, it is important to keep everything formal. On the other hand, when writing for friendly contexts such as communicating with a colleague, a friend, or a family member, it is imperative to keep everything informal. A good writer must have sufficient knowledge of the audience, occasion, message, purpose, or documents used to support the written ideas (Irvin 7). As a writer I have realized that it is important to have adequate knowledge of the target audience. A writer should think how the target audience will evaluate the ideas presented to them. This component requires an integration of both reflective and critical thinking skills, where the writer will consider the subject by reflecting on the past experiences before presenting it to the audience. The critical aspect will be required when conducting an assessment of how the recipients will view the message.
