Writing has been part of my life ever since I learned how to spell my first words. As I use the writing process I had to evolve and learn grammar, orthodoxy, and punctuation. I learned all this in my language which is Spanish. The writing rules are very different in different languages and after having an idea on how to write in English, I always refer back to what I learned in my early years. As I write in English I have faced many challenges to include learning to think in English before I write. I am use to think in Spanish and therefore the words flow as a river with minimum effort on my part. I have tried to think in Spanish, translate my thoughts and then writing in English but has proven to be the most difficult process to follow. As I wrestled with the idea of writing in English and learning to think in English, my writing has become better with each assignment. As I reflect on how my writing has evolved, it is my intention to compare how the different tools and genres of writing had helped me write academically papers and how I expect to continue to better myself for mu future, even after I graduate from college. I remember one time in fourth grade, there were going to be a special performance in school for the mothers, due to mother’s Day celebration. The teacher asked all us students to write something for our mother’s it could be a letter or a poem. I was so excited because I want it to do something special for my mom. I started to write this poem for my mom in which I expressed all my love to her. When I finished with it I gave it to my teacher. She loved it she was very happy with it that I was one of the students chosen to present the poem to my mom during the school performance. I was very nervous during the pre... ... middle of paper ... ...to be structured in a specific way, I have to follow certain rules for the writing to be successful. I have to have thesis statement, I have to follow grammar, punctuation and spelling. Because of these requirements and English not been my first language it has been hard to performance a good writing style. In my opinion some individuals, counting myself, is thought that writing is just expressing yourself either by typing or handwriting something to someone and expressing what the person is feeling. I have learned that writing is a thoughtful process, is more than writing what is in your mind. Is thinking beyond what we are reading, is to put my thoughts in order and that everything that I am writing is coherent and have a relationship. One of the challenges that I face every day is trying not to summarize everything in one single sentence or even in a paragraph.
I am more knowledgeable about invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, all in which create a masterful piece of text. A few examples, I have learned to organize and construct my thoughts and ideas clearer. I have been taught to use stronger transitions and focus more on the delivery and content of the body element of essays. Further, the instructions and advice I have received throughout this term have influenced my understanding of the purpose of writing. My outlook on writing has been modified by shifting my perception of writing from, writing to prove I am a good writer by perceiving it as using “fluffy” or BIG words to impress my audience. I grew to understanding that good writing’s purpose is to engage the writer by mind-striking ideas and arguments, which therefore will prove and title me as a “good writer”.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
Writing is a type of art because it requires you to think and be creative in the way you want it to be. I have a diary that I wrote almost everyday. They help me think about my day and sometimes turn my bad day into a good day. I write whatever comes into my head at that moment, and reflect on my day. Writing make me think deeper to what happen and help me turn my negative thought to positive. Writing is a very powerful tool. When I write, I have the power to change the story. I am the author of my own story so I can be as creative as I want.
One must remember that writing style is not something that just happens, but rather something that is developed. With the help of guides like Elements of Style, or books like Style Toward Clarity and Grace, one can begin to develop one.
Writing process like process practicing tennis. For me, when I began to study English, Writing is too difficult, and I don 't know how to write the essay on strong ideas, and well organization. It looks like I play tennis. When I wrote the essays or played tennis, I usually did what I think that I didn 't think about how to write a good essay or do to become a better good player. To be a good writer, I have to practice, learn others, and research important information to support writing. A good essay must have better organize, strong ideas, and the ideas have to support the main ideas. Playing tennis too, good players need to go through practicing process, it has basic techniques that every player has to complete to become a good player. Writing process has been as similar as the process of practicing
To explain the meaning behind the act of writing would take longer than I'd care to mention. In such a complex world, it is almost mandatory that we should be able to document it—in some way, shape, or form. To write is not one large act, one single motion, but instead many intricate movements towards a greater goal. Why do writers write? Well, why are we required to solve equations, or produce certain results in a lab? Since the dawn of time, the human race has utilized any and every form of interpersonal communication it could get its hands on. So, perhaps, writers write for that same purpose. Perhaps not. There are many great authors who have been deemed insane, whose ideas and style were never really widely accepted. Why choose to write
Being bilingual always made my life differ as if I lived two lives, speaking Spanish at home and English everywhere outside of home. On the daily basis at my house, my family speaks Spanish. When we communicate we speak very fast, at times we can not even understand one another. After this occurs we all burst out in laughter super loud, no boundaries are enforced in our lexicon. The enforcement changes when entering a different discourse community.
The definition of writing is written work that regards to style or quality. Writing can be used as a career, a hobby, or a way to cope with feelings. For me, writing is one of my favorite hobbies. I started writing in middle school, and I have not stopped writing since. Throughout the years, writing has defined me and taught me how to not only to grow as a writer, but it taught me how to grow as a person as well. Writing is a hobby that defines me in three major ways, courage, strength, and determination.
Being bilingual implies a process in which everything looks so difficult at the beginning, but at the same time it is easier than what it looks like.
Bilingual education, is important with how it benefits childrens minds, lives and thought process’. The sources cover a wide variety of knowledge surrounding all the perspectives of what can become of a bilingual child. The minimal downsides and the hidden benefits that aren’t completely thought of throughout the extreme struggle of not only learning the language, but living life through that language. The sources facts, opinions and statements, and the prosperity of being bilingual are all crucial to connecting the benefits as one. Throughout time there has been undeniable clues and hints leaning towards introverted children, and it's been seen for the most part as a social issue that needs to be “solved”. Being an introvert in the 21st century
It is not easy to decide whether academic writers have to learn the English writing style or it might be better to choose another writing style. If academic writers could find a global structure for the whole world, so academic writers will learn it and use it for writing an essay or a scientific paper. According to Linn(2009), non-native speakers how grown in a different language and culture have a different writing standards which leads to a certain way of thinking, understanding and writing as a result of that. Linn(2009) claimed that teachers have show non-native speakers that the way of a successful academic writing is not only by learning grammar and vocabulary, but also by learning a new writing methods and a new way of thinking. At the end Linn is suggesting to have a suitable group of subjects because Sondek’s study(2008) is small.
“Man is an animal that lives in language as a fish lives in water and so written communication is just one of the ways that man can survive through” (English scholar Annie Dillard). Writing is a skill to give information. Like all skills, it is not inborn and so it needs to be learnt. To give information you need good communication skills including the ability to write simply, clearly and concisely (Harris & Cunningham, 1996).
Many secondary schools require that their students complete one or two years of a second language to graduate. As well, some colleges list two years of a foreign language as a requisite to apply. As students, sometimes we fail to realize the reasoning behind this and the benefits that we may receive by learning a foreign language. Being bilingual helps a person advance cognitively, broadens job opportunities, and enriches a person in a cultural way.
One of the most important skills that second language learners are required to develop is writing. A student when learning a language apart from the L1 needs to be able to write in that particular language. Therefore it is crucial that the teacher will establish the main elements of the writing. Second language learners need to understand an amount of grammar and vocabulary before learning to write but once they have grasped them, teaching can begin. The teacher’s role is to provide the students with all the properties needed in order to write. However, the different approaches to teach second language writing have developed and increased drastically over the past years. There are four major approaches: the product, the process, the ‘post-process’, and genre approach. In this essay, I will develop a writing lesson consulting published materials using two of the above approaches: the product and process approach. As part of the writing lesson I will be explaining the approaches used, why I chose these particular ones and the teaching context.
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
