Nadia is going to undertake her first large writing project. She wants to write a novel. She has been reading and enjoying novels for as long as she can remember.
Now that she is thirteen years old, she wants to try to write a novel for other teenagers like her.
The first thing she wants to do is select a theme. Themes unify writing under a main subject.
Nadia knows that if she writes with a theme in mind that it will increase the quality of the novel.
Some of the themes she considered are good vs. evil, family love, and coming of age. In the end she chose the coming of age theme.
Her novel will be about a young girl like herself coping with the many changes of being a teenager. It will include life …show more content…

The book will end when the main character turns eighteen and leaves her parents’ home for college.

In order to gather some ideas for her story, Nadia began reading other coming-of-age stories. Most of them were novels.
However, she did come across this one text that was about a favorite singer of hers. It was a coming of age story as well, which fit perfectly with her theme.
She decided to read that one too, even though it was non-fiction. She found that in both fiction and non-fiction, the theme was presented in a sensitive, personal way.
After reading so many coming-of-age stories, Nadia began reflecting on her own life and the experiences she has yet to have.
She personally connected to the character’s inward journey and emotions.

Fiction writing challenges her because she has to invent scenarios and characters.
As a result, Sophia is really good at writing research papers, but she struggles in her creative writing classes.
