Fromt the time I was a child I have been moving from country to country learning different languages and adapting myself to their people. I was born in China and when I was 11 years old I moved to Mexico with my family. At that time I had to adapt and learn Spanish to communicate with their people. Years later I had to move again, this time it was Canada and now I had to learn a fourth language to communicate with the others. English writing and reading are very different from Chinese and Spanish. Sentence structure, tenses are all different ins each language. During this summetime in the class COMN153 I have been learning the four following things: interacting with other people, comprehending information and reproducing information, getting things done and lastly comprehending and sharing information. Each one of those topics had a positive impact by improving my reading and writing skills. Interacting with other people I have learned how to apologize, give reasons and as well express my ideas. By comprehending instructions and reproducing information, …show more content…
When I’m at home, I try to improve my skills by reading magazines, books or simply just watching movies with subtitles. As well I have been communicating with my cousins via text messages in English instead of Spanish or Chinese. Reading is very fundamental thing when you are writing since you gain knowledge from it which can lead to the improvement of writing skills. When I’m reading I always pay attention to the structure of the sentences, new words, patterns, etc. which I can later research and use them in future writing. In conclusion, as english as a secondary language, writing and reading skills play an important role in my everyday life even though most of us don't notice it. In this class I have improved a lot and now it is easier to me to understand the fundamentals of English and how important they
English is an important and required course to take in any level of education. In the past, we all have taken various English courses that have helped us enhance our reading and writing skills. Over the couple of years I have been here at the University of Cincinnati, I have taken English composition classes, which have helped me evolve as a writer. However, after taking this course, my reading and writer skills have enhanced tremendously. With the goals and outcomes set for the class, that allowed students to gain an indication of the level of reading and writing skills will be accomplished. The outcomes entailed knowledge in critical thinking, rhetoric analysis, conventions, electronic environments, and cognitive analysis. In order to determine
So I can Move further along. For instance, reading the course text book Real Writing Interactive in English 100 can aid me to be aware of what English 100 about and what the Instructor would be going over. It also prepares me for English 101 it gives me an understanding of what English 101 may be about. Studying a week for 20-30 per day, can improve the way I perform in English. Having enough sleep can affect how one thinks and operate. for example, let say you very tired from nursing kids for hours and you a college student you have an exam the same day in class you wouldn’t be able to memorize anything because you have not gotten any sleep. As well as practicing. Practicing helps you become better than what you good at. the more you practice the more you become great at something. Practicing is another way to become a better writer. Writing each day helps you become better at writing such as writing a prompt on a specific topic first you can make an outline of what you want to talk about then maybe after you wrote what you want to talk about then you can start writing your paragraph out.
“I believe that I’m at least competent as a writer as I can usually fluidly express ideas, but those technical skills will be even further crucial once I enter college and the adult world. The sooner I can learn these skills to better my writing, the better prepared I’ll be for any writing situation I find myself in the future.” When I entered the class of Front Range Composition on January 10th, I was armed only with my expectations of what I hoped to learn and the basic writing knowledge I had gained from other classes. Writing had never been my strong suit in my academic years, but I was capable enough to work my way through and still pull off an A in the class. Not this class.
For as long as I can remember, I have had interesting situations with reading and write. Like everyone, it started with one word like mom or dad. While trying to learn, letter and number, some television shows would be the perfect way to learn. Just as my parents currently encourage me to take on any challenging opportunity, they also always took the opportunity to challenge me in my childhood as an attempt to broaden my skills and knowledge. Because my mom was from Ecuador, her entire side of the family spoke Spanish to each other.
When this class began, I lacked proficiency in the fundamentals of writing. I would constantly make mistakes in my prose, which preceded to me receiving poor scores in the style and content sections of my essays. Since then, I have improved to where I can write at a consistent, high level, and possess the techniques to revise my writing efficiently and effectively. Also, I do not dread writing lengthy pieces as much as I did when I first heard the assignments described on the syllabus.
What was most surprising to me most about writing in college, it’s the fact that it’s more fun and it had a lot more interesting topics to write about. When I went to high school I always almost got a C or a D in writing but now that I’m in college I don’t feel that I struggle as much as I did in high school. But when I think about why I am doing so much better now in writing, I think its due to the fact that I have so much more help from tutors and better teachers. I’m also surprised that I’m getting A’s and B’s now in writing. During the course of English 102, the most demanding paper that I came across was the paper 3.
Some people are lucky enough to discover what they are meant to be at an early age. I was lucky enough to find out what I was not meant to be—a writer. I first suspected that my writing abilities were subpar during the regular assignments I was given in the fourth grade. While my classmates easily filled up sheets of notebook paper with descriptions of their summers and weekends, I could barely (and sometimes didn’t) meet the minimum length requirement. I struggled to find the words to express what I wanted to say, and I often found myself hastily scribbling down a conclusion to a half-finished argument as my time ran out.
The writer can enhance their writing abilities by reading lots of different texts. Also the writer should read both good and bad texts that way the writer can determine which way is the correct way to write. It is a good idea for the reader to get the context for the text before the reader just jumps in and reads the paper or book. Another part of being a good writer is knowing the different writing strategies and how to use them the correct way. An example of a good writer constantly reading to improve their own skills comes from the paper titled “My Favorite Teacher,” written by Thomas L. Friedman. Thomas talks about one of his english teachers in high school talking about what it takes to be a good writer “Real journalists, she taught us, start their day by reading the Times and columnists like Anthony Lewis and James Reston,”
Today we write more often, whether in school, at work, or on social networks. A writer is a person who uses written words in various styles and techniques to communicate ideas (Definition from Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Writer). As a writer I like to use social networks to writes post or comment on my friend’s status. I also enjoy writing on topics I like, without too many constraints on the organization of my writing. However I dislike formal writing.
Writing can be frustrating also challenging for many people; When given the task, some may become frustrated. The reason for their frustration may be due to not being able to communicate the words that are in their mind on paper. It is believed that writing can be challenging for some people because of its sequential and concurrent components such as idea generation, encoding text, and editing (Dunn, 2011). There was a time when I thought that I was a “good enough writer”. After all, it would only count when I am taking English and Literature classes and then I would not have to use it in my chosen career.
This course has been a huge influence towards improving my writing skills, seeking plagiarism, choice of words and style. I have learned how to use my writing in multiple ways with different literature methods. I honestly believe that writing is essential to life because we live in a world where using your intelligent abilities are necessary. I experience a great deal of mistakes in my writing such as grammar, sentence fragments and punctuation. However, this course has help students by providing a writing center to go to. I think it would be remarkable if this course would hold a class section in the writing center.
Two of my major interests have always been reading and writing. I consider my experience with both to be great thus far.
When I began this class, I thought that I knew a lot about writing. However, as I progressed through the class I realized I didn’t knew as much as I thought. Some of the topics that we discussed about in this class, I had already heard about them, but I learned a lot more in this class than any other class. It gave me an insight a clear view about everything, not just about essays but about writing overall. Not only did my writing abilities improve, but my typing
Prior to taking this class, my writing skills were poor and I struggled in various areas of writing. Being that this class required writing papers, I was greatly concerned with writing perfectly, but I was also excited to learn how to write better and improve my skills. Looking back, however, I have realized how taking this course along with receiving the feedback and advice from both my classmates and tutors has helped me improve as a writer while also increasing the confidence in myself to complete and accomplish future tasks.
Today literacy is power and inability to read and write is a great deprivation. Many educators acknowledge that reading is the key to continuous success in schools and enriches one’s personal life. Also a positive relationship exist between writing and reading in that students who were exposed to additional reading experiences and activities performed better in writing than those who concentrated only on writing practices or studied formal grammar.
