Throughout my semester in Washington D.C., I have had to bring in more of my psychology education from my major to my internship. With being at the American Psychological Association this semester, I gained a better knowledge on what goes into the research they do & how to apply different concepts & aspects of the field to the topics that they study. For the entirety of my internship, my research skills have improved from what they were prior to starting the program. Another skill that I wanted to work on during my internship was my communication skills, whether they be via phone call, talking person to person, or via email. I do believe that by communicating with a variety of people within the APA office or contacting people via call or email that I have sharpened my skills in effectively getting my message across to those I am communicating with. In a professional context, I have found that I do value a supervisor who I can go to if I have questions regarding work that I am doing or to clarify certain aspects of what is needed from the work I am given. Henry Kissinger is quoted as saying that the task of a leader is to get people from where they are to where they have not been. This is also a reflection of the work of Vroom & Jago (2007) who state that leaders should motivate others to do great things. With correctional workers, effective leadership and management is essential to the safety of other workers. To those housed in correctional facilities, and to the community at large. How new leaders are trained and prepared for their important role is essential to the success of correctional institutions. This paper will address a review of best practice regarding leadership in correctional facilities as well as an analysis of Corrections Corporation of America’s (CCA) Samberg Program. Finally, the paper will address a specific training evaluation model to enhance the program.
At Community Boards, the skills and disciplines that I learned was that I was able to handle clients through phone calls more effectively and in a manner in which I can be neutral. I also learned to be very patient with some clients over the phone, where some phone calls had spent over an hour of the client’s time talking to me about their issues at their residence. I was able to cultivate the skill of being able to use different communication styles in order to deal with certain people and their styles, for often I would have to deal with people that very emotional, because of their situation, whether they be angry, sad, or hopeless, I had to alter my style of communication to accommodate their needs and try to calm them down. Although I

To conclude on societal issues such as, sex offenses, drug abuse, and hate crimes, we now know what they are, how they are addressed and overall how it impacts the individual and society. The examples provided show a clear means of why criminal justice professionals are needed and the subjects in which they are against. Sexual offenders require group efforts in order to control their actions while keeping the neighborhood safe. Everyone needs to pull together in efforts of reducing drug abuse, and hate crimes with gender bias will continue to be a touchy topic considering what is needed to prove ones case. So the question is, when you become a criminal justice professional, what would you do to help be a positive impact on social issues with our world today?

As a student who began her college career without specific objectives, I never thought I would be writing a personal statement for an application to receive a Master’s Degree in the social work profession. After careful consideration of all areas of social work, I have found that my main area of interest is in providing resources and encouragement for individuals with disabilities to gain the freedom to live independent lifestyles without discrimination. When I found out I had to take a communications course, I thought I was going to die. I literally thought I was going to pass out during a speech and hit my head in front of the entire class. Alas, I can know say I made it through a public speaking course. I know it sounds dramatic, but the idea of speaking for an audience simply terrified me. In taking the course, I realized that communications did not only entail public speaking, but also the ability to communicate with others on a day to day basis. As the course progressed, I began to hone in on specific goals for myself as communicator, which included the development of my verbal delivery skills, the improvement of my nonverbal delivery skills, as well as becoming a stronger
My plan after college is to become a Sociologist or a Social Worker. With a college degree in one of these areas, I hope to impact my community in various ways. First, with the knowledge obtained from college, I hope to counsel with young people who are on the verge of going astray. In today's society, there are so many negative factors that influence young people. I want to help them understand the importance of setting goals and striving to become productive citizens. I also want to give them a sense of hope that with perseverance, they can become great role models for other young people.

I will encourage their opinions and ideas as well as help them form plans to better their
