Reflective Essay This reflective essay will critically review my personal and professional skills that I am less confident in whilst in practise, which is essential for communication and developing effective relationships with others in an organization and even for personal development. The skills identified for improvement was highlighted in a skills audit for communication and effective relationships. I was less positive about building relationships with certain staff because of how they communicated back to me. From this I could tell the risks outweighed the benefits of making the relationship happen. In a friendly atmosphere, I chose to interact with the staff because I felt valued and I wanted to develop a relationship with them. In situations where the staff were not friendly, I chose not to build a bond with them because I felt it was not beneficial for me. "If workers feel that an environment is hostile to them in any way, it gives them much less of an incentive to be engaging and seek out relationships." (BizShifts: 2015). I had to realize even though the risks of the relationship outweighed the benefits, it was important to still overcome the problems and try to establish a positive relationship with every staff. This was because there is a lot of information sharing done about the children, my opinion on certain things, activities with the children and providing feedback about the nursery environment to the relevant practitioners. It is also important for children’s development and what staff portray to the children as they can sense negativity between different staff. This reflective essay has critically reviewed my personal and professional skills that are essential for communication and developing positive relationships with others. Improving interpersonal skills ensure a more healthy relationship and create a firmer with our those we deal on a daily basis. I will share how the self-assessment instruments and self-exercises in this course have contributed to assessing and understanding my strengths and weaknesses.
