Three Social Issues Affecting Individuals & Society
In today’s society, criminal justice professionals contribute their services to a variety of social issues. A social issue is defined as society’s perception of one’s personal life, also known as a social problem or a social situation. Professionals with our criminal justice system enforce laws, promote good community relations, and are in charge of people’s safety. Three social issues affecting our criminal justice system are being addressed with examples; sex offenses, drug abuse, and hate crimes. There is a wide scope of social issues, yet these three have been chosen to inform one of what they are, how the laws apply, and the impact they have within society.
A form of human sexual behavior that is a crime is a sex crime, and those who commit them are referred to as a sex offender. They may also be known as a sex abuser or sexual abuser. In comparison of other types of offenders, sexual offenses have strong public opinions, and a high degree of stigmatism. Law enforcement officials, such as probation and parole officers, cannot have the sole responsibility of supervising all sex offenders placed on them.
An estimation of 60 percent of the 234,000 convicted is under community corrections supervision. These numbers paint the picture of how important community supervision is, along with the need for adequate preparation in which probation and parole officers will need in their roles as sex offender “monitors”. This type of work can be taxing on the official in which some have suffered from psychological trauma and stress, which means one health, must be maintained in this line of work. To conclude on societal issues such as, sex offenses, drug abuse, and hate crimes, we now know what they are, how they are addressed and overall how it impacts the individual and society. The examples provided show a clear means of why criminal justice professionals are needed and the subjects in which they are against. Sexual offenders require group efforts in order to control their actions while keeping the neighborhood safe. Everyone needs to pull together in efforts of reducing drug abuse, and hate crimes with gender bias will continue to be a touchy topic considering what is needed to prove ones case. So the question is, when you become a criminal justice professional, what would you do to help be a positive impact on social issues with our world today?
