During the entire duration of the project, I was fully involved. I was the lead writer along with Kathryn on the Pantheon myth. We made sure to complete the rough draft at least three days before it was due, so others had time to revise and edit, so I took notes of everyone's ideas during the first meeting and completed the first draft of the pantheon immediately. After everyone was finished editing and revising, I took their suggestions and applied them to the draft. Also, I attended every meeting on time with all of my required materials and tools as well as the group assignment prior to the meeting. For example, during our three hour meeting at my house on September 24th, 2015, I made sure to clear out my entire living room, so my team has space to work, I made sure to have lots of cardboard, tape, fabric, thread and …show more content…
other supplies so we could be productive without trying to find all of our materials first. This saved a lot of time. I helped to revise and edit all of the writing assignments during the designated time that was agreed upon by the group or before if I was not available during that time. I also printed out the writing assignments, bought the binder and tabs, assembled the portfolio and did all the required revisions for the myths that were not up to standard such as the Natural Phenomenon and Creation myth days before the portfolio was actually due. Lastly, I helped to create the background of the play as well as sew the costumes for most characters in the performance. In my opinion, the most interesting part of the Mythology Unit was reading Edith Hamilton’s Mythology. To be honest, if this book was not required for this class, I would have never read this classic and beautifully written literature on my own. The interest of mythology never occurred to me, nor was I ever exposed to it as in depth as this quarter. Because of this, all the myths we read were the first time I have read mythology and the first time I read that tone of writing. I found particularly the myths that explained natural phenomenons the most interesting because it really contrasts mankind’s view of science in the period of the ancient Greeks to now. Now, everything that occurs in nature concerns long, scientific terms, and complicated processes that are hard to understand. However, in Greek mythology, nature is explained in a very interesting and poetic way but at the same time is logical and makes sense. For example, one of my favorite myths involves Dionysus. I was so interesting how the Greeks made the God of Wine to have a duel personality, explaining the both pleasant and violent effects of alcohol on humans. It makes what I’m reading about more relatable but simultaneously more interesting than my science homework. It was fun to think in the ways of the Greeks. I feel the most important skill I have learned this quarter was to work was a team.
Before this class, I was usually the one that had to do all of the work because all of my team members did not do anything. Because of this, my skills involving other people were extremely weak and fragile. At first, I had a hard time trusting people with my grade, due to my prior experience with other teams. The process to fully trust my team was very stressful and painful though. At times it was hard to merge completely different ideas into one, or come up with times that everyone could meet. However, after getting to know my team for an entire quarter, and understanding their work ethic and personality, I learned to trust my grade with them. I realized I am working with responsible people who will do quality work because their grade is just as important to them as it is important to me. Working in a functional team taught me skills such as planning meetings and schedules, being punctual, trusting others, cooperating with others, respecting others ideas, how to communicate with others and most importantly, putting the team's’ needs before my
own. One way we could have improved the quality of our project is to read the assignment rubric. The main problem with our myths were the fact that no one in our group bothered to read the rubric while writing, revising, or editing. So, the myth that we “thought” were proficient, actually did not meet the standards. Because of this, revisions had to be done for mistakes that could have been fixed the first time if we just looked at the rubric and improved our myth based on that. If that would have been done, revisions would not have been required and our initial grades would not have been so low. For example, when were were first writing the Natural Phenomenon myth, we were writing about a hero defeating the natural phenomenon, not how it was caused. No one caught the error until we were reminded that what we were planning was something totally different than what was required.
For the contemporary novel project I worked with Noah. We decided beforehand how we would split the work to get it done. At first it was hard for me to be comfortable with having part of my grade in someone else’s hands and I stressed about whether or not he would finish in time. In the end, I was able to learn to let go and trust that he would complete his part of the assignment. Like the contemporary novel project, I
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Upon completion of these assessments, the work place team is then formed, acquiring team members based upon the needs of the project, mission or goal of the team. The team then proceeds to learn about each other. In learning about one another, individual learning styles must be identified to gain an understanding of how to maximize team performance by capitalizing on team members' strengths via learning styl...
There is usually much diversity in a group. We have different ethnic backgrounds, intelligence, goals . Humans in general are non-trusting. Building up trust in a team is not easy. No matter how hard he works, grades could still be low due to poor performance of another team member. Taking individual responsibility for everyone's grades is not an option. I have heard there is no "I" in t...
Throughout time, and even in today’s society, we see references to the traditional monsters from literature: The Invisible Man, the Wolfman, and Vlad the Impaler -- more commonly known as Dracula. One of the most common references is to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Within the timeless tale of Frankenstein, a young scientist, named Victor Frankenstein, finds his passion for organic chemistry in Genova, Switzerland. As a child, Victor lost his mother. This tragic event led him to become obsessed with bringing the dead back to life.

However, my friend and I were playing roles to break the ice between the team. After our first meeting outside of the classroom, I found out that my group was friendlier as we started getting more comfortable with our team members. The first issue we encountered was how we should communicate to do the work. I was the person who created a group on WhatsApp and Skype in order to make the group communication more effective. The second issue we faced as a group was that we seemed to be stuck in the brainstorming stage. I could say that we spent more than two weeks in that stage just because there were lot of disagreements between team members on how we should be conducting our project. Each one had different idea and point of view. But after numerous meetings, we were finally able to come up with a detailed plan on how we were going to conduct our project, and we specifically defined each other specific
Before starting the university my working with others was sometimes effective and sometimes not very effective depending on the people I worked with, on the topic or area we had to work on. In sixth form I got on well with everybody in my class and working with them was not difficult. For example once me and two other students had to make a PowerPoint presentation on smoking. We worked together in planning what information will be included in the PowerPoint and who will write about what, what other materials we will need such as leaflets and who will get them. So before creating the PowerPoint presentation we planned everything together. Once the PowerPoint was created we then decided the number of slides each of us will read and talk about. So here I worked with others effectively and our PowerPoint presentation was successful.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. During the meetings, we learn many concepts from the textbook, “Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices” by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson. We were able to learn different types of concept in the textbook and utilized it as a team to complete certain tasks. The three concepts that impacted my team and I are human
After a review of my performance in the assigned group, I have learned a great deal about myself and behavior in the team-setting situation. This is not the first experience in a team setting. Previous team setting experiences were conducted in sporting and recreational environments rather than academics. While the setting and the environments were indeed different, there were many commonalities and correlations between the team settings I previously experienced and the current academic team-setting experience for this academic course project. One of the traits that I had exhibited pertained to being co-operative.
One of the lessons this course has taught me was planning out the first-semester schedule to prevent stress and avoid overlaps with events/extracurricular activities. I will definitely consider using this organization technique in the future because I feel that planning, organizing, and scheduling my day in advance will help me stay focused and give me peace of mind, lowering my stress and anxiety as time moves forward. Another tool that I felt was helpful in this course was researching the Husson service areas on campus and creating a fictional story about a student using the services. After creating and presenting a powerpoint presentation to the entire class, I believed this helped to give students a better understanding of where the service areas are located and the types of assistance available for those who are struggling or are unclear of the next steps to take. One of the things I felt didn’t work well in this class was presenting group projects. Group presentations can be a blessing and a curse depending on the people you’re given. On many occasions, I’ve been paired up with students who attended the group meetings but failed to contribute to the discussion, have provided a dishonest opinion of the presentation and refused to do their fair share of the work. Consequently, group exercises are like exercises in life because, in the workplace, I will likely be dealing with the same types of people. Overall, this was a very useful class and I’m hoping that I will be able to apply the information learned as I gradually prepare for my second semester of
In addition, trust enables reciprocity and increased opportunities for shared achievement in the team (Mitchell et al., 2012). However, it can be difficult to trust others in the team because of the fear that they may not be reliable or may not properly perform their roles. In many group situations I have experienced, members often will procrastinate and do not fulfill their responsibility in which I have to complete their part because I care more about the grade. So, to address my lack of trust, team-building exercises may be helpful as it gives the team the opportunity to get to know one another personally; thus, deepens the relationship and increase trust among the members of the team. Also, as my mistrust is an internal trait rather than an external aspect, I need to address my attitude by being more openminded. In an interprofessional team, it will comprise of individuals with different characteristics and from different professions. So, I need to be accepting and trusting of other’s capability as each person have distinct knowledge and ideas that will contribute to the team. Therefore, trust is an essential characteristic as it allows the team to set and achieve goals in a harmonious, efficient manner; thus, influencing me to make an effort of addressing my trust issues through team-building exercises and staying
Throughout this semester I have learned so much about myself in many different aspects. I learned that I am the direction south and the color blue. For one thing I know that I want to hear what everybody’s opinion before make a decision. I have learned things about my personality that are will be benefit and things that are not a great when working in groups. For example I am a very cooperative person but I am also very dependent on others for ideas. I also learned that I am a collaborator when it comes to being a team player. I try to keep the group focused on the goals and purpose of the activity. I am also the team player that will do whatever it takes to get the team to reach the final goal. Throughout the semester I have improved my skills and realize what areas I need to improve in communication, working in groups, and organization.
This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. The students see the results of these seeds planted under these conditions for the past week. Two plants in particular have already been grown their growth has been
In Norse mythology, the deities fight not for their own gain, but rather for the dream of a new world to come, it always reflects humanity influences such as using powers wisely, jealousy, humility, sacrifice to audiences. From my point of view, the series of Thor is one of the most impressive, one of the worthiest big-budget, CGI-laden blockbuster from Marvel Studios, which laid on the foundation of Norse mythology. Not only does Thor(2011) work as an exciting summer movie, it also contains a surprisingly deep and complex story conveying many ethics lessons about leadership and using powers wisely. Thus, critiquing Thor (releasing on May 6th, 2011), a blockbuster directed by Kenneth Branagh is of considerable importance. Thor (2011), a story about an arrogant deity fighting over Jotunheim for Asgard’s and Earth’s peace, was tempered its sweeping intense scope with wit, humor and touching moments.
