Working with others and improving own learning and performance are highly essential skills in social work. In this essay I will reflect on how well I have developed these two skills and what I need to do to improve them. Before starting the degree course in university, I already had the skill working with others. As I have worked with others who were on the same course as me in the sixth form and also I did voluntary work placement which required people working together. Before starting the university my working with others was sometimes effective and sometimes not very effective depending on the people I worked with, on the topic or area we had to work on. In sixth form I got on well with everybody in my class and working with them was not difficult. For example once me and two other students had to make a PowerPoint presentation on smoking. We worked together in planning what information will be included in the PowerPoint and who will write about what, what other materials we will need such as leaflets and who will get them. So before creating the PowerPoint presentation we planned everything together. Once the PowerPoint was created we then decided the number of slides each of us will read and talk about. So here I worked with others effectively and our PowerPoint presentation was successful. However there have been times where I did not work effectively with others especially on my voluntary work placement. I did voluntary work in a nursery. I enjoyed working with the children there but I did not get on very well with the staff. The staff there did not interact with me as much and most of them usually gave orders to me e.g. to get something. When it came to working with the staff e.g. when getting the snack ready for the ... ... middle of paper ... ...alance my time. For example working for two hours and then spend one hour with friends. This would enable me to get my work done or meet my targets and fullfil other demands. In conclusion I believe that I have developed both skills working with others and improving your own learning and performance. But I need to work on these skills so I can use them in a more effective way; and I also recognise that I will not develop these in a short period of time. I will have to work on the strategies I have mentioned throughout the assignment in order to improve these skills. It may take a long time to make progress in these skills but what I need to remember and implement is the strategies that I have mentioned. Also in this process I will be able to find out whether these strategies work on me or not and if there are other strategies that can help in improving my skills.
By working together there is information sharing, improve safety and quality also collaboration gives knowledge to other professionals. (Littlechild and Smith, 2013).what I have learned through working in partnership with other professionals was creating a poster related to what each professional does. Some of the professionals I did not know how exactly they work together in partnership. Example: I was not aware of how a radiology would work with a social work and the outcome of that was that Radiology develop and maintain collaborative relationship with medical colleagues and participates in regular meetings with other professionals activities to meet the needs of a service users therefore they collaborate with Social Workers. By doing a poster and delivering information I learned a lot from the other team members, shared experiences knowledge and skills with other group members. Group work made me realise how it is very important to work in multi-displinary team, the benefit of it and what others can benefit from. During the poster each of the student was from different professional however we all had the question but each had to look at it in each profession perspectives. This gave an opportunity to everyone to go and search for each professional and communicate with the rest of the group the outcome of the presentation. By doing that, we exchanged ideas learned from each other’s skills and used it into practice. I have learned about sharing information with others, learned about communication and
This paper is about a reflection on a class interview for a senior social worker. The teacher gave every student ten minutes for this interview. The students did not have an idea of what their situation was about until couple minutes before the interview. This paper will focus on the limits of confidentiality for the client, potential assessment for the client, engagement with the client, and evaluation of the social worker.
I develop multiple skills and abilities from various experiences, especially leadership and communication skills. When I took the accounting information system class, I was the leader of the group project, which was to lead and assign group
This class, Social Work Theory & Practice was made to be able to introduce me to social work theories, ideas, and skills needed to work in the social work profession. I believe my positive attitude towards work and helping others allowed me to work effectively as part of a team. I was proactive and always asked my senior colleagues if they required any assistance. This attitude allowed me to carry out important duties such as drafting pre contract enquiries and analysing office copies. Moreover, I was happy to help staff members in other departments such as Criminal and Family. I have collated bundles for the family department and assisted in the archiving process for the criminal department.

After taking the above actions, I will make both quantitative and qualitative measures to evaluate my skills whether or not are improved. The quantitative measure is to make a survey that asks for categorical questions to my peers or groupmates who need to rate a response 1-10 marks every time. Every result of survey would be calculated and compared, which I can know what I should improve more and what I have achieved. Also, I will apply qualitative measure, like verbal interview, that ask open-ended questions for peers to get evaluation or feedback.
The first skill that I taught myself was to always be determined. This helped me greatly, for it put me in the right state of mind to continue my work at a high level. At some points, this determination led me to surpass my own expectations and achieve higher than what I had originally thought. Secondly, this experience helped me learn that I am adaptable. I couldn’t let this affect my future, life is too precious to waste it grieving over what was lost, but to embrace the new doors that open up. I had to learn how to become a stronger, and better person mentally. This had helped me adapt to a new life style, making myself a better person and improving on things that will help me later on in life. Because of this, I realized that I could overcome most obstacles that are placed in my way, and produce better work when faced with these obstacles. Thirdly, I learned how to be a mature person and grow up faster than I had ever thought. After this experience I realize how short life really is, and there is no time for me to waste in accomplishing my dreams. So I had to get back to work, and continue to strive to be the best. All the work that I had accomplished was improving. Only showing how I wont run away from a challenge, but rather embrace the obstacles in my way to become a stronger
In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
This aim of this paper is a self-reflection of my life and what events have brought me to choose being a practitioner of social work. In this paper I will show my framework of strength based approach as a practitioner. I will discuss unresolved, past and present issues in my life which has lead me into choosing a career in helping other.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a variety of many things regarding social work. These things vary from learning how to help oneself to understanding how to help others. Not only were the textbooks very useful, but also the materials that furthered this textbook learning. The in class presentation, activities, and guest speakers gave us insight and a different perspective on the material we were learning. I feel like this course has given me a good foundation and prepared me as a future social worker (1).
In today’s society, companies expect employees to collaborate together. This helps bring several ideas and opinions into a single group. Businesses desire those who can work as a team because it can help the business’ reputation and bottom line, and working as a team in college can help one prepare for the workplace. Learning to work as a team in college can benefit students in the future and makes it easier for them when they earn a degree and start their careers. A reason that this country works well is that everyone has diverse abilities which can contribute to everyday life. Some people let those abilities shine at work, in their personal life or both. As people have their strengths, they also have their weaknesses. There is a problem to improve those weaknesses when the weakness is not identified. Once the weak point is identified it needs to be resolved. A plan of action for improvement helps in solving the situation. In this paper, I will identify abilities and skills that I possess that contribute positively in my work environment, in my personal life, and in my learning team. I will also identify personal areas that need improvement, and outline a plan of action for improvement.
The personal plan has enabled me to track myself on my developmental changes that are important for my achievement of set goals. Planning has also allowed me to keep track of all the steps that I will need to acquire skills and knowledge. I have also been able to see that if I continue in my current method I will not achieve all of my goals and through techniques such as SWOT analysis I have identified these areas and begun to create methods to fix this problem. The basic purpose of this essay is to point out my personal and professional skill development because these two areas are interwoven.
families, and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. Social workers are change agents and because of that, they aim to help people develop their skills and abilities to use resources provided to them to strengthen and improve their lives and communities to resolve problems.
