I am Yutong Li, or go by Coco. I am a senior at Oregon State University and majoring in business information system and business administrative. My educational background and experience give me solid understanding and strong working knowledge; however, I still have gaps between my current skills and employer expectations. It is important to understanding your advantages and gaps. This memo is to discuss my current skill inventory, employer expectations, and my gaps and different ways I plan to fill them.

In order to improve my critical thinking skill, I have kept analyzing at least one question I search from the internet every day since February 2016. I analyze the question in serval steps: to state the problem as clearly and precisely, to figure out the logic of the problem by identifying its elements, to carefully analyze and interpret the information I collect, to figure out and evaluate different options/actions, to choose the best option. This method helps me a lot in coursework. Now, I am reading the book “Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Communication” which is written by Melissa Goodwin and Catherine Sommervold. This book discusses different ways and strategies of 3Cs. It provides me different strategies in critical thinking and how to apply strategies to the real world. As I am reading this book, I apply some strategies when I solve questions, I feel it gets better and easier for me, but I still have a lot to learn and improve. One strategy I learn is to use mind mapping to help clarify and organize my thoughts/ideas. According to my research, some articles suggest me to read various types of book to become more knowledgeable which will be helpful in both critical thinking and problem solving. Now, I am still looking for books to read after I finish reading “Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Communication.” Additionally, I am going to talk to an instructor in the coming fall term to ask for guidance and suggestion in order to improve critical thinking
The article, “Critical Thinking? You Need Knowledge” by Diane Ravitch, discusses how in the past people have been deprived from the thinking process and abstract thinking skills. Students need to be given more retainable knowledge by their teachers to improve their critical thinking skills. (Ravitch).
DESCRIPTION. Good examiner's manual, the Profile of Creative Capabilities (PCA) was created mainly to recognize 'gifted students around creative thinking' (p. 7). Alternate uses include monitoring progress in creative-thinking classes and undertaking research. The items inside the PCA include two subtests of divergent thinking and two rating scales (Home and School). The rating scales have identical products. The examiner's manual instructs a college mental medical adviser or any other qualified test administrator the easiest method to administer and score some measures define the PCA. Testing is a large factor in accurately assessing the full scope of the assistance a client may new. Depending on the needs of the client the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) could be a better fit. In considering the tests that exist, one sample population LMFT’s are likely to work with are children.
Questions are something that must be asked and can be very important when reading a literary work, watching a movie, or just simply trying to understand the habits of people today. Asking questions opens up the human brain to dig farther and deeper into the meaning of why someone did something in a specific way and what purpose it has that something must be done in that way. In order to master critical thinking, the ability to question information and solve problems must be present. The crucial steps that lead to successful decision-making is not based solely on our skills and abilities, but on the strategies that help us get there. All these steps combined allow us to make solid and intelligent decisions. Research on understanding how the mind works is a continuing project at best, but the progress we have made is substantial in the areas of understanding problem-solving and decision-making. This paper will discuss the method(s) used, where they are applied, what role critical thinking plays, and the impact these decisions make.
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
There are multiple assessment tools today that have been created solely for the purpose of assessing creativity. Some assessments are in the form of questionnaires across a broad range of domains, while others are specific to everyday activities. Other assessments require self-reporting while other assessments require students to perform specific tasks to be assessed with a scoring criterion. I have chosen tests that measure thinking, achievement, behavior and beliefs. The four assessment tools that I will discuss include the Creative Achievement Questionnaire (CAQ), the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT), the Biographical Inventory of Creative Behaviors (BICB), and the Creativity Domain Questionnaire (CDQ). Out of the above mentioned assessment measures, the TTCT has been around the longest and is most widely used but the SOI is the oldest measurement tool.
In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.

Creative and critical thinking can have a very powerful impact on our lives. People that use these two aspects of thinking are more likely to achieve long and short term goals and make better life decisions, such as the type of career to pursue. They live by a moral code that is well thought out and created to fit the person that they are. They are also more likely to think for themselves and have beliefs that have been closely examined. Knowledge is generated through critical and creative thinking. Creative thinking is something new or original that is created with value. Critical thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions and validates or invalidates a current belief or something that is said to be previously true. Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and creativity? These two types of thinking can be easily separated in regards to concrete or realistic ideas compared to abstract or original ideas however to generate new, acceptable knowledge critical and creative thinking must interact together. The questioning of established beliefs with the creation of unorthodox new ideas will expose the most beneficial knowledge for the world.
There is an overwhelming amount of evidence of the human race realtion to, creativity and that we all have an interest in education. Education is so important to us because it is the only thing we can use for this unpredicted future. All children have talents, but the education system crushes our creativity because we are taught to think a certain way. Due to the fear of being wrong has led children to no longer be creative which is why many adults lose that “capacity” to be able to be creative. The very few children who are allowed to continue using their creativity tend to not to be as dissatisfied their lives as much as other adults who were not able to pursue passions they truly enjoyed.
For an effective education creativity needs to be present within all aspects of a primary classroom. So what does it mean to be ‘creative’? According to Sir Ken Robinson “creativity is the process of having original ideas which have value”. Creativity can be demonstrated through the use of technology, problem solving experiments and allowing children the freedom to explore and express new ideas. It is very important to ensure a child can get the best creative education; this is because creativity will give the necessary skills needed for our future. Children must become creative problem solvers if they are in leadership positions as this will help them within society, even though all children may not be in a leadership position it is beneficial for them to have a creative mind-set. Because the world we live in is constantly developing new ideas, concepts and technology, creativity is definitely the most important quality a child can have. Sir Ken Robinson’s, (an international advisor on education) views on creativity in education will be discussed along with New Labour views which includes the National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural Education (NACCCE). The 1977 white paper, the open plan for schools, and the 2003 excellence and enjoyment strategy concepts will also be drawn on.
Creativity is very important in our daily life because when we have creativity we easy to make decision or solve any questions or problems such as Jigsaw - Puzzle. Creative thinking also important. Creative thinking is a skill that can be learned rather than existing skills within us. Therefore, we should learn to be a creative thinking to be called a critical thinking. Actually, creative thinking as we learn to give an idea, thinking out of box and evaluate knowledge. Furthermore, it is important for us to think broadly and use existing skills in depth. Besides that, the habits and behaviors like producing good ideas, imagination and innovation in all circumstances.
