My learning experience within inter-professional was very productive. I personally learned about working in collaboration with other professionals. My first impression was the first seminar which took place in the auditorium with a group of students from different professionals in health care sector. The actual seminar was a very good preparation for me and everyone who is in health professionals. The seminar gave me a very understanding of my future practice. It prepared me well on what to expect as I was not aware of the purpose of mixing different students from different professionals. The outcome of the seminar gave me a clear understanding and gave me opportunity to meet other student. During the seminar, I learned the best way to work …show more content…
together in collaboration with other professionals and how is very important to do it. Collaboration is an approach of learning which requires group to come together and share ideas and knowledge on certain area for improvement (Biggs,1997,188).The best of IPl why it matters. I have learned who is a service use. A service user is anyone who is a patient or who uses health services and social services. A service user is the main key part within inter-professional. For professionals to work in partnership and collaboration they must focus on servicer users and have an aim of providing them with the best care quality. In terms of working together in collaboration, professionals must focus on the service user to build better services for service users and professionals. Good services give more benefit more in getting the right services and the right treatments. This improve the quality of life, respect integrity and it focus more on the need of the service user. Furthermore it enhances the integrity and increase professional satisfaction. The other outcome I gained is how communication is the key of working in multi-displinary team.
By working together there is information sharing, improve safety and quality also collaboration gives knowledge to other professionals. (Littlechild and Smith, 2013).what I have learned through working in partnership with other professionals was creating a poster related to what each professional does. Some of the professionals I did not know how exactly they work together in partnership. Example: I was not aware of how a radiology would work with a social work and the outcome of that was that Radiology develop and maintain collaborative relationship with medical colleagues and participates in regular meetings with other professionals activities to meet the needs of a service users therefore they collaborate with Social Workers. By doing a poster and delivering information I learned a lot from the other team members, shared experiences knowledge and skills with other group members. Group work made me realise how it is very important to work in multi-displinary team, the benefit of it and what others can benefit from. During the poster each of the student was from different professional however we all had the question but each had to look at it in each profession perspectives. This gave an opportunity to everyone to go and search for each professional and communicate with the rest of the group the outcome of the presentation. By doing that, we exchanged ideas learned from each other’s skills and used it into practice. I have learned about sharing information with others, learned about communication and
feedbacks. Communication is the key to a success achievement in terms of collaboration the key point in working in partnership (Morris, 2008). The main form of communication used was based on WhatsApp group which was created by a member of team who volunteered herself. This has showed the important of team working and helped each member from the group to exchange ideals while working on our topic away from the University. This form of communication helped me as it was an instant message, group members were exchanging and whoever was free at that moment was responding back. The other form of communication used was meeting together in the LRC to share the outcome from our group working. This resulted in team working as information sharing as well as exchanging the ideas. The best of meeting up face to face was much easier for me as it was hands on involvement from all people from different professionals working together in collaboration to meet the need of the presentation topic. By meeting up face to face it gave me time to offer contribution verbally to team meetings. Also it gave me experience of being active listener, therefore I had opportunity to get involved in asking question to other professionals and I learned from them too. This sort of communication gave a chance to be self-aware, it also helped me to learn mutual understanding of different team roles from early stage of my learning. By communicating we worked together.
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams.
Developing and improving teamwork and collaboration in the workplace has proved to be an essential asset for all nurses to obtain. Making sure to form clear and logical objectives and understanding the roles and tasks of team members allows us to use teamwork and collaboration to obtain the best possible patient outcomes.
Collaboration is defined as working together, and the concept of collaboration is very diverse and encompasses various aspects of team work with a goal in mind. The goal being to optimize the quality of life and the wellbeing of our community that we are caring for. Through collaboration of various sorts we can provide effective holistic care that will bring better outcomes to our patients and their families.
Importance of working as team in Health Care Organizations are numerous. When experts work together, the best and
During March 2016, in Stage 1 of the pharmacy degree, I attended a two day work placement in a community pharmacy as part of the Work Based Learning module within the Capability unit. The purpose of Work Based Learning is to increase engagement with learning and to develop skills specific to patient pathways. This will link to Stage 4 of the MPharm course in which the main unit is Patient Centred Care. Therefore, it is imperative that I enhance my patient education skills through my own education.
Collaboration begins with networking, coordination, and cooperation and then requires team members to share decisions, responsibility, and trust. It requires that team members invest time and energy to come up with options and design strategies for carrying out these plans. Because collaboration requires lots of time and energy, it is impossible to make all decisions collaboratively. In some instances, the desired result can be achieved through networking, coordination, or cooperation. Working together, or collaboratively, invites participation of multiple service providers and the use of multiple resources. See the Student Stories below for examples of collaboration in action.
The term reflection means the examination of personal thoughts and actions. For nurses this means focusing on how they interact with their colleagues and with the environment to obtain a clearer picture of their own behaviour. This means it is a process in which a nurse can better understand themselves in order to be able to build on existing strengths and take appropriate future action (Somerville, 2004). Reflection is a way to bring your own intuition along with empirical knowledge together. Reflective practice in nursing is guided by models of reflection. Reflective practice model serves as a framework within which nursing or other management professions can work. Reflective practice model is also a structural framework or learning model that serves the purposes of a profession and is particularly applicable to health related professions. Reflective practice enables practitioners to learn to value themselves as significant people with values and feelings that are important factors in giving care. Whilst reflective practice allows the nurse to recognise the value of their experiences, they may also need support to work through a difficult situation. This is where reflection aids nurses in dealing with these challenging experiences (Johns, 1995). Reflection on experience offers nurses the opportunity to reflect on caring in practice in ways that its nature can be understood, where the skills necessary for effective caring can be developed and most significantly, where the values of caring for people can be highlighted, both to the individual nurse and the world in general (Johns 1996)
Before starting the university my working with others was sometimes effective and sometimes not very effective depending on the people I worked with, on the topic or area we had to work on. In sixth form I got on well with everybody in my class and working with them was not difficult. For example once me and two other students had to make a PowerPoint presentation on smoking. We worked together in planning what information will be included in the PowerPoint and who will write about what, what other materials we will need such as leaflets and who will get them. So before creating the PowerPoint presentation we planned everything together. Once the PowerPoint was created we then decided the number of slides each of us will read and talk about. So here I worked with others effectively and our PowerPoint presentation was successful.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
My key learning from this course are numerous and includes a deeper understanding of the various interprofessional (IP) competencies. In the area of communication, I understand that the ability for any team to work together successfully depends on the free flow and exchange of information. Communication is the hallmark of a successful collaboration as it enhances the ability to share information necessary
Building self-esteem, enhancing student satisfaction with the learning experience, and promoting a positive attitude toward the subject matter are all benefits of collaborative learning. A higher degree of accomplishment takes place as a group because you essentially are a team. An example of this is a sports team. In a collaborative situation it takes every member to do his or her part in order for a situation to have a greater resolution; as where a sports team needs everybody’s individual talent to win a game. In retrospect, as a group; the contributions of our own talents can make the difference between a “win or Lose situation” it gives you a sense of competition, and knowing that you can win as a group; self esteem in one’s self is accentuated. Johnson and Johnson (1989), Slavin (1967). Another benefit to collaborative learning is based on the members of your group. Every individual in the group demonstrates their own input based on where they were born, what nationality they are so on and so on. The benefit of this is that you get a different perspective on things rather than always knowing what you know. You can take information from other cultures and add or apply it to what you already know.
In addition to recognizing the importance of work-life balance, the program also helped me nurture skills that are crucial in the promotion of an effective balance between work and other aspects of life. As I was going through the program, I was able to balance my commitments in the program with my personal life. This helped me to reduce stress and so I approached my responsibilities positively and with great energy. Furthermore, valuable tips on how to maintain proper work-life balance including the need to exercise and meditate, not to seek perfectionism, to always have a schedule and adhere to it, and ensure I stay healthy.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
Many times even though I may know a general idea of what nurses, doctors, or children’s aid worker do, the image can be greatly distorted through the societal and media lens. To let each person explain their own discipline in terms of what they do, how they do it and their beliefs, it helps educate me in understanding the reality of their work. This greatly helps with the processes of multidisciplinary teamwork. When working with our own group of people in the same discipline, majority of the people have the somewhat of the same belief or values in what they do. However, while working with other disciplines, the values may be crossed and cause conflict. While working with this group in developing our presentation, there were times where I was confused of what was happening when discussing our roles. Each person seemed to have a distorted view of the disciplines present. So while creating and writing down the roles and scripts, many were confused of the characters in the disciplinary sense. Afterwards, when we all realized that we had not much of an idea of each discipline, we went around in a circle explaining our programs or occupation. We clarified it with each other
