After a review of my performance in the assigned group, I have learned a great deal about myself and behavior in the team-setting situation. This is not the first experience in a team-setting. Previous team setting experiences were conducted in sporting and recreational environments rather than academics. While the setting and the environments were indeed different, there were many commonalities and correlations between the team settings I previously experiences and the current academic team-setting experience for this academic course project. One of the traits that I had exhibited pertained to being co-operative. My co-operative behavior and the agreeable behavior I exhibited contributed to the harmony and the successes of the group. My co-operation that was exhibited was relative to prompt arrival to meetings, meeting group deadlines, and thorough participation on the discussions and the forums of the group. While My strongest writing skills were illustrated with the expression and analysis of the benefits and the drawbacks associated with the group project. While I was able to present the arguments and responses both verbally and in writing, there is additional work could use improvement. As English was not my first language, there were instances and moments where the Overall, we had a creative workplace. The creative workplace provides a learning culture and my mistakes were viewed as learning experiences by myself and my teammates. According to the course text, “One of the most important conditions that supports creative practice is that the organization has a learning orientation that is leaders recognize employees make mistakes as part of the creative process (125). An effective team typically develops through several stages. Tuckman and Jensen developed a model for how teams should develop that includes five stages: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning (as cited in Martin ,2006 and Fulk, Bell,& Bodie ,2011). In forming, the first stage in team development, team members are introduced to the team’s purpose and goals(Martin, 2006 ; Fulk et al. ,2011). Fulk et al. Teamwork is a skill highly valued in the workplace and a topic emphasized in business schools. In order to satisfy the requirements of AACSB, teamwork should be built into the curriculum and assessed accordingly. One of the learning activities that lends itself to teamwork is the ERPSim game, which was developed to help students learn complex ERP concepts. Because students work in teams while playing the game, it offers a good vehicle to help students develop their teamwork skills, in addition to learning ERP concepts. With increasing adoption of ERPSim games in business schools, it will be important to assess teamwork that transpires during an ERPSim game and also how teamwork affects team performance.

How can health care professions make the patient experience better in a hospital? There are numerous answers to this question, and in this area there is always room for improvement. The responsibility falls onto the employees at the hospital, and the biggest way they can tackle this goal is to have efficient teamwork. This is a broad topic itself, so how might it be achieved? The first step in great teamwork is communication. The next step is to have a strong leader that can bring everyone together. One final step that is important in achieving teamwork is having a group of people that have a common goal. “By its very nature, much of teamwork is distributed across, and not stored within, interdependent people working toward a common goal.” (Gorman, Dunbar, Grimm, & Gipson. 2017) In this case, the common goal should be to better the patient experience. A lot of the time, the star player will forget what it means to be a team player, but what does it actually mean? Many believe that the definition of a team player is the person that does all of the hard work for the great players on the team. In order to evaluate my role within the group it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Effective teams work to establish common goals. These goals are usually the drivers of an effective team when all of the participants are communicating to develop the goals they would all like to achieve. In business, this can be seen when groups set a sales goal and develop a plan of action to achieve this goal. Individuals empowered to approach a goal with their interests in mind as well as the interest of the whole group.

My involvement in the Learning Team environment at the University has been a great learning experience. When we were assigned teams at the end of the first week, I did not really know what to expect. I have worked on teams numerous times in my career, both in the professional and private sectors. The teams I have worked on have always been to either produce a product or improve a process. Learning has always been a part of these teams, but I have never been on a team whose specific purpose was centered on learning.
An individual’s contribution towards teamwork is a hidden factor towards high performance that not many people understand until they have had significant experience working with various teams. While interdependence amongst all team members is something people are familiar with, one tends to undermine the necessity and intensity of individual contributions. Hearing Professor Hutchinson’s lecture he made me realize that there is an “I” in team which motivated me further to improve my individual performance on the team (“Building Effective Teams”). Our first team deliverable was the Team Contract which encompassed all our goals, expectations and formal rules that would govern our team’s performance. After delivering our team contract, every team member had a clear understanding as to how our team would function. We had a common goal and very organic values and ideas.
Each member is comfortable in finding their place and can feel a sense of belonging within the team. As a team member, I portrayed the roles of a team player and a researcher. I may not be the brain of the group, but I was very eager to help and became a reliable member that follows-through on tasks to resolve conflicts. Also, I became a researcher too, at some point. I formulated various questions and gathered the information and data from the group. According to Sussex (2013), a researcher “is always asking a question and then finding their own answers.” She also stated in her blog that a team player is someone that the team could rely on because they are eager to help and resolve a conflict in a very calm way. I based my personality as a team member according to her seven types of a well-rounded team member in her blog. Each team member has different tasks to do. In our team, we focused on what the content should be and briefly discussed about the structure of the mind map. My biggest contribution would be completing my task, being creative and being able to contribute purposeful ideas to the team.
