There were many things I was able to attain while taking this course at Husson University. I strongly believe this class has inspired me to passionately follow my dreams and aspirations as I plan ahead for future life. After successfully completing the career project for this class, I was able to gain a greater value of the topic by uncovering my career-related interests and abilities, identifying occupations that matched my personality, and determining how I work best to draw out my creativity and productivity. My career choice for this assignment was an automotive design engineer, which requires an individual to pay very close attention to detail, while at the same time having a very creative and imaginative mind in order to perform well …show more content…
One of the lessons this course has taught me was planning out the first-semester schedule to prevent stress and avoid overlaps with events/extracurricular activities. I will definitely consider using this organization technique in the future because I feel that planning, organizing, and scheduling my day in advance will help me stay focused and give me peace of mind, lowering my stress and anxiety as time moves forward. Another tool that I felt was helpful in this course was researching the Husson service areas on campus and creating a fictional story about a student using the services. After creating and presenting a powerpoint presentation to the entire class, I believed this helped to give students a better understanding of where the service areas are located and the types of assistance available for those who are struggling or are unclear of the next steps to take. One of the things I felt didn’t work well in this class was presenting group projects. Group presentations can be a blessing and a curse depending on the people you’re given. On many occasions, I’ve been paired up with students who attended the group meetings but failed to contribute to the discussion, have provided a dishonest opinion of the presentation and refused to do their fair share of the work. Consequently, group exercises are like exercises in life because, in the workplace, I will likely be dealing with the same types of people. Overall, this was a very useful class and I’m hoping that I will be able to apply the information learned as I gradually prepare for my second semester of
Conclusion Ultimately I did a much better job of implementing course material into my approach to leading the project team. Though no formal leadership role was established, I ended up becoming the “point-man.” Instead of viewing this reality as a burden (as I have been) I should make the most of the opportunity to better myself and potentially others. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, I need to make sure that I am meeting and exceeding the demands that the group places on itself and demonstrate that I am motivated.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
Even though my time in SlS has been only for six weeks I think that this course has truly benefited me because I have learn a great deal from all of the different speakers that have stepped into our classroom along from my professor and peer mentor . They each left me with a new perspective on how I should tackle my goals to be successful. I’ve learned that time management is key in order to get task and assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, proper note taking skills, how to work in groups and do presentations, stress management, financial decisions are also keys things that I have learned. Most importantly what I’ve gained out of this class is networking because its not about who you know its about who knows you. This stood out
Sequence: I use sequence first in all areas of my life such as school, work and also personal relationships. I need step by step direction before I can start any tasks and delivers what is expected of me. I am well-ordered, very detailed oriented and I like to know what is going to happen next. I need time to complete my work so I set a schedule for everything since I thrive on a well-organized life.
I came into this class not really knowing any more then people can get insurance and money for food from the human service department. My eyes were definitely opened those first couple weeks of class. I have realized that there is so much more that a human services worker can do. I also learned that most people who use the services are truly desperate and need help. I have learned a lot about seeing the big picture and not just what’s in front of me.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many different things, from behaviors of leaders all the way to how to deal with difficult conversations and confrontations. I have been able to learn more about myself and the way I deal with leadership actions through the personal assessments and I have learned skills that I can take with me to the business world. Being a strong leader is more than just being someone who can do all the work, it is about being a people person and being able to grow your employees and much more. With the help of this course, I have been able to figure out my strengths and weaknesses and going forward I now know what I must work on in order to become a better leader.
The effectiveness of the group was usually based on the objective versus subjective performance criteria. My group definitely developed throughout the semester. We started off strong; we had goals and were willing to put in the work needed to do well. As the semester continued it became harder and harder to keep up with work but we tried our best and were successful. As a whole I truly believe my group did well and I’m so honored to have been on the members on the Tea-Rex team. Personally I would like to improve my stress level and I believe if I can keep that on check I’ll probably be able to function better. Taking this course not only introduced me to Organizational Psychology and the realization that I will be using it everyday from this day forward but it also introduced to group of strangers that I can now call my friends.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
This course arises with the aim to develop competences and skills to enhance the future career prospects of university students. This module has had a positive impact in different personal development competences, in communication, self- management, self-confidence and the ability to learn effectively in different learning styles.
It was made clear in our first seminar that there would be group presentations in the subsequent seminars and everybody would be given the chance to speak. This was to ensure that at the end of year, we would not be having any stuttering problems or major tension in facing the class during our presentation week. I realized along the way, that this not only helped me improve my presentation skills but it helped me get closer to the subject marketing. What I feared was so temporary; before long I enjoyed my marketing class more. I looked forward to those group activities, in which we were given time to converse, to find out about each other and also to know what exactly we were learning. It was through these activities I understood the subject more intensely.
