Learning Review. This course arises with the aim to develop competences and skills to enhance the future career prospects of university students. This module has had a positive impact in different personal development competences, in communication, self- management, self-confidence and the ability to learn effectively in different learning styles. The "Understanding the Business World" module has enabled me to reflect upon my own learning, performance and achievement and to plan for my personal, educational and career development. The course was useful in understanding of the interconnected nature of business organisations and the importance of decision making in increasingly competitive and globalized markets. I have learned the key concepts in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and business ethics, equality and diversity, unified around the concept of achieving business objectives through people. The lecture has been introduced in order to view the business world as a collection of interconnected processes to develop a range of analytical techniques and critical thinking skills to current academic approaches and cross-functional issues and arguments through different integrated case studies. The module has analysed business-society relations through the theories and practices of business ethics and social responsibility and how business ethics has evolved from theoretical frameworks as to how business should be managed. The knowledge and the skills that has brought the course to me was mainly an introduction in understanding the development of appropriate business policies and strategies to meet stakeholder needs within a changing environment, the development of understanding of the role of CSR policies (Business ethics... ... middle of paper ... ...ip skills that people can have. During our Group Discussion in class we had the opportunity to discuss and explore different practical case studies and how business psychology can help us in understanding particular business issues with the conclusion that strong ethics build trust, trust builds relationships and relationships build success. In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence. This class helped me to become more aware of my weaknesses. I recommend this module to all students. The resources helped me to understand how I could become more effective and to realize my own strengths and weaknesses regarding my skills and working in a group environment. I found the Business Ethics principles an inspiring module. I think everyone should learn these principles.
An organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drives them to look out for the different interests of society. Most business corporations undertake responsibility for the impact of their organizational pursuits and various activities on their customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the environment. With the high volume of general competition between different companies and organizations in varied fields, CSR has become a morally imperative commitment, more than one enforced by the law. Most organizations in the modern world willingly try to improve the general well-being of not only their employees, but also their families and the society as a whole.
Also, there are several things I have learned about myself during this course. Most I already knew about myself just did not know that there was specified names for my attributes. I have also learned how I can deal with my unique attributes to help me personally and professionally. A person is made up of many attributes, and no two people have exactly the same combinations of attributes. One of mine is always extending help to others even if it conflicts with my schedule.

In recent years, companies are becoming socially responsible and now stakeholders almost expect a company to have CSR policies. Therefore, in twentieth century, corporate social responsibility (CSR) became an important development in public life (Barnett, ND).Corporate social responsibility is defined as “the ways in which an organisation exceeds the minimum obligations to stakeholders specified through regulation and corporate governance” (Johnson, Schools and Whittington, N.D cited in March, 2012). Stakeholders can be defined as “those individuals or groups who depend on the organisation to fulfil their own goals and on whom, in turn, the organisation depends” (Johnson, Schools and Whittington, N.D cited in March, 2012). There are many purposes for this essay, the first purpose is to descried the key principles of corporate social responsibility and explain their importance for stakeholders. Secondly, is to show how far this company follows those principles in order to be accountable to at least three of its stakeholders. In this essay, three stakeholders, environment, customers and employees will be evaluated respectively and the key principles of the stakeholders will be examined.
I begin this essay by defining CSR, there are many definitions for this term by various different theorists, and EU says that CSR is "A concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis." On the other hand, Sloman et al. define it as "The concept in which a firm takes into account is the interests and concerns of a community rather than just its shareholder". Davis and Blomstrom (1966), say it "Refers to a person’s obligation to consider the effects of his decisions and actions on the whole social system". These definitions differ from one another in many ways but they agree that CSR involves taking the environment into account and therefore, one must look take social responsibility.
...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. It allows me to look back on what has been done and learned from what did or did not work out. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. Aside from that, I have also managed to deal with people from different cultural background through teamwork and develop unique business ideas and market strategies.
Consisting of three modules – Business Analytics, Economics for Managers and Financial Accounting – it aims to make you conversant with the language of business. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a very familiar term in today’s world. Most of the successful companies try to be ethical and socially responsible toward their stakeholders. Because becoming ethical and socially responsible gains a lot in terms of profit or capturing more market share (Aras and Crowther,2009). This socially responsible approach is paved by the CSR activities of the companies which has a great contribution to their corporate strategy of winning the customers’ mind. I can say I learned lots but my test say differently, so much was taught and very little stuck in my pea brain. What I learned in this class was how my life turned out and why it turned out this way. I feel that, if these topics were taught at a younger age in life, such as Generation X such as myself would probably be much better of in mind and life status, well I would. Picking a topic or topics is more complicated than asking, but just based on what really sticked or stuck out is the 4 parts, better yet said the crisis exploration and model of self.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
A company has an economic obligation. It must earn a favorable return for its stockholders in the restrictions of the law. But, corporate social responsibility means that organizations have also ethical and societal responsibilities that go past their economic responsibilities. CSR needs organizations to develop their documentations of their responsibilities to include other stakeholders such as workers, customers, suppliers, local societies, state governments, international organizations, etc. Ethics could be seen as a fundamental component of individual and group activities at the heart of organizations’ errands.
We live in a world that is gradually becoming more dominated by businesses; these enterprising organisations reflect how we as people are not only creative but resourceful. Overall, business at BTEC level has shown me the role business plays in our lives. Business has become the foundation of almost everything in the world, it has also become a source of individuality, purpose, and power. I keep up to date with a lot of business programmes, I like to advance my knowledge about the business world and the information I get from these programmes help me to understand more about business and gives me a different viewpoint on current business issues.
I believe that the second half of the class I learned the most about myself. I learned that self disclosure is the best way to open up and get people to trust in you and for me to have trust in them. I think that when you ask people to give you feedback about yourself it is a great way to learn more about yourself that others see in you, but you have to be able to handle the good and bad feedback as well. It can be an eye opener and it was for me. The Johari Window was a great experiement also that I found very useful.
I have use my skill to be productive with employees on the front line learning and growing my skills to be a better manager. I have learned many skill of management on the job. This class has shown me a different approach to management and using these idea will help me advance in my career. I am a hand on manger and growing with my employee hand on.
