It made academia sit up and take notice when it launched as a beta version in June 2014. Some believed the ‘classroom of the future’ had arrived; others, at a loss for words, called it ‘reality TV’ in education. Most of all, this technological phenomenon had Harvard Business School (HBS) revelling in its own achievement. Called ‘HBX CORe’, this was not any old ‘online course’. This was a futuristic, virtual classroom that brought students together, from all over the world, to take a Harvard-designed program in business – in real time. What’s more, it broke all the rules. HBX CORe is broadcast from a television studio, where Bharat Anand, faculty chair of the program, addresses a high-res video wall that contains the live images of the students …show more content…
Consisting of three modules – Business Analytics, Economics for Managers and Financial Accounting – it aims to make you conversant with the language of business. The technical wizardy used to deliver the course is jaw-dropping – it replicates the interactive nature of a classroom while also being engaging, vibrant and exciting – the USP of this course is that it is centred around HBS’s famed case-study approach to teaching, the biggest plus for those paying $1,800 for the …show more content…
Being a Harvard-designed course, HBX CORe delivers on its promise to prep you in basic business concepts. At the end of a very intense 11 weeks, you will be thoroughly conversant with business jargon and able to communicate with peers and other professionals on an equal footing. Since the course uses Harvard’s signature case study-based approach to learning, it gives non-MBA candidates a taste of HBS’s powerful, hands-on teaching methodology. It may not be a mainstream HBS program but HBZ CORe does carry the ‘Harvard’ tag, even if obliquely, and for many that’s reason enough to sign up. Those who have taken the course say it is packed with videos of professionals from the business world, which makes it very relatable. What’s more, the interactive platform is fun and keeps students riveted throughout. And here’s the thing about the HBX certification. It is by no stretch an MBA degree but, unlike platforms like Coursera, you can include it on your resume. If you pass with ‘honors’ or ‘high honors’, so much the better! What The Naysayers
Many students realized that within their first two years semesters of college, the workload is inevitably heavier and even overwhelming than when they were in high school. After reading “Cyberschool” by Clifford Stoll, there is a shocking point that he makes very obvious to his readers. Stoll implies that what his essay is about is not to be taking into consideration because he pokes fun at the idea of the cyber-schooling. Cyber-schooling consists of each student having their own computer; all teachers are fired and retrained to become data entry clerks that answer student’s emails. In addition, this type of “future school” that Stoll describes has each student working at his or her own pace. They will get CD-ROM’s that have educational games that are programmed to help prepare students for standardized testing. Stoll brings to life the many details that many improve Camden County College. It is quite obvious that there are countless changes that could make this an optimal learning environment. The best way to create such an environment is to have a plethora of classes, up to date buildings, and additional parking.
While other children watched their favorite cartoon or played their favorite video game, reading business articles and watching the fluctuations seen in the stock market enthralled me. Renowned leaders in the business world have always been of interest to me, specifically Warren Buffet. My favorite quote by Buffet is “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than you and you’ll drift in that direction.” By attending CMU, I would personify this quote. Growing up, my parents have instilled into me, many essential values, such as working hard and “being the best me I could be.” I have always expected a lot from myself, but high expectations from my parents and close friends, have increased my work ethic and lifted my goals and aspirations even higher. For that reason, I hope to challenge myself through the prestigious Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Science’s economics curriculum. The undergraduate economics program would prepare me for a vast array of careers. Jobs in policy, law, and business are all possible, or if one desires to go to some sort of post graduate school, that is also possible. By having such a top-notch education, I would surely be closer to achieving my goal of receiving my MBA from Tepper. In making all this possible, a wide range of classes must be made available. Classes that are available in just about any economics curriculum, like Intermediate Economics, are also available here, but classes like Behavioral Economics and Global Electronic Markets are what makes CMU unique. Another attractive aspect of CMU is the jointly administered economics degree by Dietrich and Tepper. I feel this will make for a solid foundation in the field of econo...
What I love about my course is I am able to apply what I have learnt to real business scenarios. I have enjoyed exploring how different businesses operate, such as Cadburys, Timpsons, Tescos, a Coco bean plantation and many local businesses. I have done this through evaluating their marketing strategies, management styles, recruitment processes and strategic decision making. This has enabled me to understand different organisations in terms of their aims and objectives and vision to

Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate. According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009),

The Reality of Online Open Access Education Thomas L. Friedman, an American journalist and columnist for The New York Times, seeks to demonstrate the benefits of a blended educational model in “The Professor’s Big Stage”. His article focuses on open online education and its rising popularity; after attending a conference convened by MIT and Harvard, Friedman shares his thought on the topic of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course), which are online course databases containing open and unlimited access to both traditional and interactive course components. He argues that a blend of online lectures and in-class activities with a proficient professor is the ideal education model. Friedman utilizes storytelling to draw in his audience, and further
In 1999, Mark Bonner of PricewaterhouseCoopers accurately predicted, “Online learning will rapidly become one of the most cost-effective ways to educate the world’s expanding workforce.” Fifteen years later, his statement is truer than ever, as the price of going to a four-year university skyrockets, and technology required to get the same degree online becomes more available. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from 2000 to 2010, the average cost for undergraduate tuition, room, and board at public institutions increased over forty percent.
The further education in today’s modern world is extremely important because of the sheer competition for jobs. An MBA significantly increases the hiring opportunities and improves a persons career choices significantly. My research found that a number of huge companies actually required an MBA to even get a first interview. The MBA teaches different techniques from companies and the undergraduate degrees, so you learn skills that are essentially very much exclusive to graduate business programs. It is clear that the MBA degree is sought by Finance companies as currently JP Morgan, Chase, HSBC and Wells Fargo currently offer sponsorships for employees to continue their education if they work for the company for a certain period of ti...

A hybrid study program works well in the modern world of today 's technology. Younger students are already familiar with digital technology, so they feel at home in a virtual classroom. Still, some face-to-face contact with
Digital learning is defined as learning through digital devices such as computers, tablets, or smart phones over the Internet. It is also known by other names, such as virtual learning, online learning, e-learning, distance learning, or continuing education. Digital learning was first introduced as “Computer Assisted Learning Center” in 1982 [1]. The first online course was introduced by “Computer Assisted Learning Campus” in 1994, in which students can take courses over the web [1]. Michael Chasen and Matthew Pittinsky founded Blackboard in 1997. In 1999, Blackboard, SmartThinking and e-campus became popular among different universities around the world. Between 2002 and 2008, there was an increase in students taking online courses by 187% [2]. In the year 2009, total number of students who were taking web-based curriculum was 5.5 million [2]. This statistic shows that the online learning trend is on the rise each day.
Vision Statement: My vision is to ensure that every student gains the acceptable knowledge to understand and learn the concepts of what education has to offer. Within this context I perceive integrating technology as a tool that will expand learning abilities. Therefore, my vision is to provide instructional technology skills into the curriculum. As a follower of the 21st Century Framework I will set into the standards of education the 21st Century themes, the mastery of core subjects, learning and innovation skills, information media and technology skills along with life and career skills to ensure that every student masters these skills. Stimulating an academic environment that is dedicated to support and enhance student’s commitment to today’s digital world will promote success.
All of our lives, we have gone through school learning with many other students in a classroom, and using books. But what if things were to change? What if instead of getting up to go to school, we simply had to just turn our computers on. Virtual Education is becoming a new way to teach and learn. Using computers, students can interact with other students and instructors, go to a history lecture with people all across the world, and even dissect frogs.
Business finance has taught me how to manage risk and return as well as making capital investment decisions throughout the semester. Professor Schott has gone through each chapter carefully well making sure that each student grasps each concept before moving on. He has used many tools such as LearnSmart, lectures and homework assignments to make sure that us students have a good idea of the concept before giving us exams.
