Virtual Education is the Future of Learning
All of our lives, we have gone through school learning with many other students in a classroom, and using books. But what if things were to change? What if instead of getting up to go to school, we simply had to just turn our computers on. Virtual Education is becoming a new way to teach and learn. Using computers, students can interact with other students and instructors, go to a history lecture with people all across the world, and even dissect frogs.
In an article taken from the Internet, "The Top Ten Unique Features and Benefits of the Virtual Classroom" explains 10 reasons why a virtual classroom would be beneficiary to a learning environment.
First off, students can learn from a single professor. "Potentially, 100,000 students can be in the same class at the same time, listening and learning via voice, watching the professor write on the electronic white board, posing questions via chat/e-mail, and viewing related materials during class time to facilitate learning." (Leonard, 1997) It can also "support homework submission, immediate web based testing of students knowledge of facts, concepts, applications, and quick links to chat rooms from after class student discussion on every aspect of the professor's points each day. (Leonard, 1997)
Students can also save up to 80% in college costs. Costs are becoming outlandishly expensive now -a- days. So many people who deserve a college education cannot afford one. Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a novel about a materialistic society that has forgotten social interaction with each other. This materialistic society is where Bradbury believed society today is headed<THE TENSES HERE ARE A LITTLE CONFUSING.>. The materialistic society in Fahrenheit 451 created through Bradbury's cynic views of society<THIS IS A FRAGMENT SENTANCE.> His views of society are over-exaggerated in contrast with today's events, especially in the areas of censorship and media mediocrity.
Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, is a dystopian novel about Guy Montag, whose job is to burn books in the futuristic American city. In this world, fireman burns books instead of putting out fires. People in the society do not read books, do not socialize with each others and do not relish their life in the world. People’s life to the society are worthless and hurting people are the most normal and everyday things. Ray Bradbury wrote the novel Fahrenheit 451, to convey the ideas that if human in the future relies on technology and the banishment of books and stop living. Then eventually it will take control their lives and bring devastation upon them. He uses three symbolisms throughout the novel to convey his thoughts.
Imagine a society where owning books is illegal, and the penalty for their possession—to watch them combust into ashes. Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates just such a society. Bradbury wrote his science fiction in 1951 depicting a society of modern age with technology abundant in this day and age—even though such technology was unheard of in his day. Electronics such as headphones, wall-sized television sets, and automatic doors were all a significant part of Bradbury’s description of humanity. Human life styles were also predicted; the book described incredibly fast transportation, people spending countless hours watching television and listening to music, and the minimal interaction people had with one another. Comparing those traits with today’s world, many similarities emerge. Due to handheld devices, communication has transitioned to texting instead of face-to-face conversations. As customary of countless dystopian novels, Fahrenheit 451 conveys numerous correlations between society today and the fictional society within the book.
The first factor that leads to the destructive society is the loss of questioning. Guy Montag meets his new neighbor Clarisse McClellan; she is unlike anybody he has ever met. Clarisse asks Montag a question that changes his life, he seems to be persuading himself that he is genuinely happy with the current life he has. “Are you happy?” (Bradbury 14). Clarisse is the first person to ever question fireman’s job to burn books, she asks if he is truly happy with what he is doing. Although Montag gets irritated over the question, Montag seems to question his answer after Clarisse leaves to go back home. “Of course I’m happy. What does she think? I’m not?”(Bradbury 14). Even though Montag answers Clarisse’s question we can see the slight hesitation near the end of the quote, as if he is trying to convince himself that he is happy. Guy Montag seems like he enjoys burning books, and is satisfied with the current state of his life. Montag society clearly shows the loss of questions, everyone has been so brainwashed by the society they no longer question anything.
What is in store for the future of our society? Perhaps we’re already living in it. What changes do people want made? Ray Bradbury, author of “Fahrenheit 451,” writes about one theory for our society’s future where reading books is found as illegal, if caught reading the books are burned. People must learn how to live life through gigantic televisions built into the walls of homes. In a futuristic world, true beauty goes unseen due to conformity.
In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury uses the life of Guy Montag, a fireman in a near future dystopia, to make an argument against mindless conformity and blissful ignorance. In Bradbury’s world, the firemen that Montag is a part of create fires to burn books instead of putting out fires. By burning books, the firemen eliminate anything that might be controversial and make people think, thus creating a conforming population that never live a full life. Montag is part of this population for nearly 30 years of his life, until he meets a young girl, Clarisse, who makes him think. And the more he thinks, the more he realizes how no one thinks. Upon making this realization, Montag does the opposite of what he is supposed to; he begins to read. The more he reads and the more he thinks, the more he sees how the utopia he thought he lived in, is anything but. Montag then makes an escape from this society that has banished him because he has tried to gain true happiness through knowledge. This is the main point that Bradbury is trying to make through the book; the only solution to conformity and ignorance is knowledge because it provides things that the society can not offer: perspective on life, the difference between good and evil, and how the world works.
Imagine a world where you could not read or own any books. How would you feel if you had someone burn your house because you have books hidden within the walls? One of the most prevalent themes in Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451 is the idea of censorship. In Bradbury's fictional world, owning books is illegal. A fireman's job is not putting out fires like one may assume. In Fahrenheit 451, a fireman has the job of starting fires. Firefighters start fires in homes containing books. If this were reality, there would be no homes to live in. Books have become an integral part of American life. However, the theme of censorship is still relevant in American life.
College is one of the most fundamental institutions in our modern world. It is a place where most of our future politicians, doctors, scientists, and leaders are made. Though, it seems that the price tag that comes with a college education is something that is too hefty for some students. Over the years society has changed in many different ways. In particular, technology has been the largest change that has occurred over the year. Only a few years ago the iPhone came out and it has forever changed the way people view their phone. Internet has also become very assessable resource. There are places everywhere to access a computer or free Wi-Fi. These changes have led to the alteration of the accessibility and use of technology in the education setting. The changes made to technology in the education setting have led to many positive outcomes that have allowed many types of people access to education that could not get it prior. There are however, many critics that refute these changes and say that virtual education can be biased and expensive. Although, there are many critics that do not agree with technology in education, have this can give access to many students with disabilities as well as people who have limited time or ability to further an education.

Even using the internet has a source of information for the students or has a tutorial for students who are struggling. There are so many ways that classrooms can benefit from computers. The first thing I looked at was how teachers were being affected by computers. Integrating technology into your teaching can change the way you deliver content to your classes. Not only are teachers affected by having to do grades and attendance by computers now, they also have to worry about teaching their students about computers and integrating it into the daily lesson plans.
The Purpose of this research paper is to explore the possibilities in virtual reality that helps with education. Is it possible to use virtual reality in the educational system? What does it bring to the table that conventional teachings do not? What other devices are coming to the market that can be used? In this paper we will also be looking at few examples of virtual reality video games that are now used in the glass room or are about to be.
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
