The Impact of Computers on Education
Technology is all around us these days. If you don't understand the basics of computers and how to run one your choices of jobs and things to do are limited. Almost everywhere you go and every job you can think of uses computers. For this reason, computers have become a big part of the education system. I'm planning on teaching elementary students so I researched the impact that computers have had on teachers and students.
When I become a teacher there is no doubt that I will use computers in my classroom and my students will do activities with computers. It is just the way to do things now. There are so many valuable programs out there to help students learn and to help teachers teach that computers are pretty much a necessity in classrooms. In my opinion for an elementary classroom there should be at least five to ten computers in each room. Without the access to the computers it is hard to take advantage of all the wonderful things a computer has to offer. Even using the internet has a source of information for the students or has a tutorial for students who are struggling. There are so many ways that classrooms will benefit from computers.
The first thing I looked at was how teachers were being affected by computers. "Integrating technology into your teaching can change the way you deliver content to your classes.[1]" Not only are teachers affected by having to do grades and attendance by computers now but, they also have to worry about teaching their students about computers and integrating it into the daily lesson plans. By doing attendance on computers it saves a lot of time and confusion for schools. No one has to go around and pick up attendance and it does not have to be recorded anymore. Just one easy, quick step and it is all taken care of. In my opinion although computers can be very helpful it might take a while and some long hours for a teacher to switch over from running a classroom one way to using computers in their daily lesson plans.
This story is about lizzie borden and if she axe murdered her parents. The topic is mainly about if lizzie borden killed her parents. A girl named lizzie Borden killed her parents with an axe. Lizzie Borden killed her parents with an axe and did get away with the murder and got arrested for a year since the police didn’t have the evidence to know it was her. Lizzie was born on July 19,1860, at Fall River Massachusetts. (Mark Twain)First the people that got killed were Andrew and Abby Borden lizzie Borden's father and stepmother. Lizzie borden’s parents were killed on August 4, 1892. Lizzie borden did have a sibling a sister named Emma Borden. Lizzie Borden’s parents were divorced and Lizzie didn’t like her stepmother
On a sweltering 1892 August day in Fall River, Massachusetts, Andrew and Abby Borden were violently murdered in their home on Second Street. The subsequent police investigation and trial of Lizzie Borden gained national attention and rightfully so considering a female murder defendant on trial was and is to this day an extremely rare proceeding. The Lizzie Borden Trial held in 1893 attracted attention from nearly the entire United States with newspapers in New York City, Providence, and Boston publishing articles at a frenzied pace. The trial was the most sensational murder trial of the nineteenth century (excluding the Lincoln assassination) and despite an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence Lizzie was acquitted by a jury of twelve men. Several exceptional factors surrounding the case including the actions of key figures during trial, police investigation, and the fact a female was facing double murder charges make the case truly significant when looking at American legal history.
However, computers do have some downsides. Basic arithmetic and correcting spelling and grammar are less important to students that have software that virtually does these tasks for you. “…Drilling addition and subtraction in an age of calculators is a waste of time...If we do, then drilling reading in an age of multimedia is a waste of time can’t be far behind” (David Gelernter, p. 187). Children are less likely to read as much. If you see a Shakespeare book next to a laptop, most kids these days are going to choose to pickup the laptop without second guessing it. Computers can also be
Sarah Garland of NBC makes the note that, “Not every child has to have a computer to make it happen. Kindergartners can rotate through activities that include reading out loud from a real book, playing educational games on the four desktop computers in the back of the classroom and working one-on-one with the teacher” (Garland). Providing a technological source to kids would greatly improve productivity, not only because kids would be getting experience, but it would also cut down on the number of kids needing help at that moment. The teacher could focus on the other students at that point in time to make better use of their time. Another criticism of the idea of technology in the classroom is that the computers are decreasing students social abilities, because so much of their time is spent staring at a screen.

For the teacher, computer technology can lead to more efficient time management in record keeping and developing lessons plans as well as the ease of conducting any kind of research and communication without having to leave the classroom.

The first advantage would be teachers embracing tech in the classroom.Teachers embrace tech as a teaching tool in a way the students will understand.According to Eric board when students took an assignment of translating passages of Othello into other dialects, some students used the texting dialect,”resulting in some very interesting dialogue between lago and othello. The kind of technology teachers are embracing on are high tech calculators,Ipads, smartboards, and a variety of sites.Today’s high tech calculators don’t just calculate certain equations but also graph equations, how to find the greatest common factor, and even get a larger view or smaller view of the graph. The use of ipads in the classroom is useful for both the teacher and the student. For the students the ipad can give them some hints on the problem their solving and maybe even keep a record of their grades that certain student has so they can easily check up on them at any time. While for the teachers they can easily set up tests and quizzes and even grade assignments quickly and effecently.Although some teachers still use regular boards, most teachers use smart boards to teach. These boards are like ordinary boards except these are controlled by remote control pen.By just clicking on the board questions can be written...
Although there are many pros of using computers in class, there are also some negative aspects. Many people think that computers take away the emotion in classroom. They feel like classwork should be given out by pencil and paper. Computers in class can be a huge distraction, such as playing games online in class, sending messages and etc. Using a computer in class can also give a student poor writing habits. Computer corrects verbs and misspelled words for a student which means they aren’t learning the correct grammar. Another con of using computers in class is not having the correct information. Sometimes the internet can give a student false information if they don’t know how to use the internet properly. Many school cannot afford to purchase computers. Purchasing technology can be much for a school. Buying computer and taking the time out to learn how to use them, costs the school more money. Instead of spending money on technology their school can be purchasing other things such as better desk for the students. Cheating is also a big con of using a computer in class. Using a computer to take an online test allows students to look up the answer the questions. Students have access to a lot of information when using a computer. There can also be a technical problem when a student is trying to turn a test in. Network failure can make a student lose all
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
One benefit of computers is that they help students with school work. Students are able to find things quicker for research papers, etc. Also it can be easier for students to type instead of writing out their essays. Students can get ideas from people through blogs and chat. ( Christine Zuchora - Walske 61)
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
Technology has many different effects on education, one of them being enhancing the students learning. Technology may enhance the students learning and may assist most students in achieving their academic standards. When technology and appropriate teaching methods are combined, technology may increase the academic achievement. Positive effects have been found in all major subject areas, from preschool to higher education, both regular and special needs students. Educational technology has been found to have a positive effect on a student’s attitude toward learning and on self-concepts. The introduction of technology into the learning environment has allowed the learning to be more student-centered, to encourage group learning, and helps to stimulate an increase in the student-teacher interaction. Technology has shown a shift from a focus on a student’s memorization to their problem solving. Through technology’s use, learning opportunities have become unrestricted by time or place, allowing lifelong learning. Student use of technology through communications can also help to enhance access to a career and continued education. Students are more likely to use a computer to get help because they can to it themselves. Technology is helping students to become independent.
