Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I learned that for me to be an effective leader I have to be able to change follower’s behaviors, and make them both satisfied and perform well. When I become a manager I have to realize that I will be working with a diverse group of people and what works for one person might not work for everyone. It is important to have a leadership style that leads to positive outcomes that is valued by the organization. I think it will be important for me to make each employee feel like they are appreciated and that their voice matters in the company. I think it is important to give frequent feedback so employees can know how their performance and know how they are doing. I would like workers to see me as a fair manager that distribute duties and outcomes fairly doesn’t show favoritism. I would like to be able to keep everyone motivated and working together as one to keep employee moral high so it can benefit the
Leaders should lead by example. What a leader does and how they do it, serves as an example for others to follow. A leader’s behavior and actions are an important and effective way to influence the behavior of the people the lead. Leaders must treat other with dignity and respect. Leaders take responsibility for their actions, maintain their integrity by doing the right things and develop personable and commutative vision for their organizations. Leaders instill a sense of discipline; enforce organizational standards of the organization and do not turn a blind eye or overlook problems.
8. If I were the CEO or the founder of a company I would want to be a fair, straightforward and motivated leader. A leader that is not only appreciative of his employees but I will make sure that they are happy and treated well within my organization. The way that I will create this image is by going above and beyond my duties, reaching out and listening to the feedback of my employee because I believe that they are in fact one of the most important part of my business. Holding open to suggestions meetings or doing employee of the month. My mission Statement would be “help me help you”.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this capstone class. I was sure what I wanted some knowledge and tools that I could apply to my current and future jobs.

Unlike many traditional Embry-Riddle-Aeronautical University (ERAU) students, I began my college career having a vast amount of work experience. Many traditional students begin their college careers at the age of eighteen or nineteen, but I began college at the age of thirty four. The reason this is relevant is because when I started this class I had many preconceived notions about project management and project managers. After completing the class, I have dispelled many of these preconceived notions.
It is necessary for these managers to assure that their employees know what is expected of them. They also need to effectively communicate the company goals and strategies in addition to frequently giving feedback to their employees. Managers also need to have the confidence in their employees to allow them autonomy in their work roles.

The knowledge accumulated from doing the assignments had real world application. I must professed with certainty that every assignment completed improve my chances in the workforce. Being a nontraditional student I had my doubts about finishing the class with a solid grade. But the schedule proposed by you, Professor Vaughn was excellent.
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their

While taking this course I have learned so much about myself, mainly pertaining to my own personality. I have learned what my stressors are in life and how I tend to cope with these stressors. Being able to understand my own personality structures and how they affect how I think, feel, and behave has been extremely beneficial. I have also learned that I should not be so hard on myself because no one is perfect, and everyone has areas where improvements are needed. Learning exactly where my improvements are needed and how I can improve those imperfections will be extremely helpful for my future in order to grow as an individual.
I took this class because it aligns with other studies I have done. I have completed life coaching certificates and other psychology and mental classes. My expectations for this class are to learn what it means to educate and be educated. In the workplace leaders need to be approachable and available for the employees. In addition, leaders need to serve their employees. The role of a leader is to facilitate and provide tools for the employees in order for the employees to be successful (Kouzes, 2006). This is an area that I want to continue to work on.
