I took this class because it aligns with other studies I have done. I have completed life coaching certificates and other psychology and mental classes. My expectations for this class are to learn what it means to educate and be educated. In life and business, I can see where understanding individual and/or group motivations can help show the bigger picture and give ideas on how to proceed. I enjoyed the first learning activity of observation and can see this class getting into the mentality of education. I got this same thing from MGMT class and was surprised there too. I knew some about cognitive development prior to this class with the studies I have done, but I can still see the advantages of learning a new perspective. …show more content…
A person might weigh everything they do to evaluate the type of person they are. Do I have any friends, and why, might be a question one could ask themselves. I think everyone evaluates themselves in terms of their development as it has been and how it could be. Questions of, do I have control of my thoughts and actions, and am I comfortable functioning in society seem like front line questions for anyone interested in who they are. What I know about socio-emotional development after completing week two is what it has to do with cognitive development. Depending on many factors the way a person develops socially and emotionally can have an effect on the way they act and react. Positive or negative reinforcement can lead a person to behave one way or another, for instance. We are all guided by the things that happen to us and what we think about them. If one were to think that everything happens for a reason, or if they thought everything is mere chance, this could influence the way they see it and in what …show more content…
If I am looking at my class and thinking they could use a better way to do something, I can use action research to find a way to do it. For instance, if I think my class would benefit from a closer emotional bond, I might divide them into groups to find ways to bond together. The process is to look for ways to improve, create a plan, take action, collect evidence, reflect, and then start all over with the next idea. So the idea was that my class would benefit from action research with a bonding exercise. The next step is to create a plan, like dividing them into groups. Then to collect the evidence would be by observation, have them fill out a questionnaire and/or any other applicable techniques. Then reflect on the accumulated information and figure out what works and what does not. Then we are ready to start all over again in this process of learning and getting better at it. I will you use action research to become a better teacher by learning what works, what does not and ways to use this information to do better for me and all others
6 of the 12 teachers and 80 of the 160 students will be randomly chosen to participate in the research intervention. The intervention will last one week. During this week each of the 160 students participating in the research will receive two, two-hour blocks of Algebra instruction. In addition to these blocks of instruction, the students participating in the action research will have between four to six hours of total additional homework. Combining in-class instruction and homework each student participating in the action research will participate in eight to ten hours of total Algebra instruction in the intervention week. All students participating in the action research four assessment tests; one test will be administered before the intervention week has begun, a second test will be administered after the first block of instruction, a third test after the second block of instruction, and a final test one month after the third

As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
Doing that involves an increasing mastery of skills, knowledge, and ideas." (Robinson, p. 119) The mentioned idea can be used to motivate students to participate in the learning process. The same way young children learn playing with others, the older child can do it experimenting and prove their theories. As a teacher is easy to noticed the difference between a lesson that is pure theory, and the lesson that incorporates creative factors. Students present a better behavior during the lesson, participate, interact, formulate questions and get the answers working together without
As a question, ‘who am I?’ poses many complications. Each of us are aware of being someone “with a past, a present and a future…” however, it is the fact that we are not “only aware of inhabiting a distinct personal world, but also…social and cultural…” which leads to confusion. This essay will therefore explore the Psychological foundations behind the question, in regards to evidence provided by the ‘Twenty Statement Test’. Analysis of this study made it apparent that ‘the self’ could be classified into three main groups; social, relational and personal selves, with each of these being readily related to the various theoretical assumptions. This essay will examine how each of these categories seek to answer the question ‘who am I?’, as well as briefly discussing how cultural variation may influence both social and individualistic approaches to the self.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
When I first read about the action research project, I was pretty excited to see that I was going to get to work with a child, plan an intervention, and carry out the proposed plan. This was the first experience I have gotten in my college career that has allowed me to work directly with a child by using a method of teaching and instruction that I could plan and execute. Although it seemed like a daunting task to have to do for the first time, I was very excited for the opportunity since that very thing is what I plan on making my future career out of when I graduate. As for any new experience, learning must be directly involved in order to gain a broader understanding and become more capable of progressing positively through the process. I was given a child in the Hillcrest junior kindergarten classroom to work with who is a student with English as his second language. Because I was given a child to work with, I also got to work with the classroom teacher in producing an intervention plan to carry out in the six weeks I worked with him.
When I reflect on myself in this course I really think about how it opens up one’s mind and inner self. Who would have thought that a course in such a short period of time could make you really think about life and the decisions and choices we make on a daily basis, or the idea of something so simple as why we are the way we are? This course makes you change your perspective on how you view others but especially on how you view yourself. It is almost like an unexpected journey of finding yourself.
I want to be a better person, and it is because of this class that I was finally able to figure out how to go about doing just that. I know how to learn. I know that if I am going to learn in an effective manner I have to do things hands on. I have learned that my way isn’t always the best way. When it comes to solving a problem, I have to be open and willing to actually hearing the other side of the situation instead of plotting my defense in my head. I have learned that thinking critically isn’t something that is learned and mastered overnight. To apply critical thinking effectively I have to be able to be aware and practice the steps every single time. After I graduate and walk away with my Bachelor’s Degree, I want my success to continue. I want to be able to take what I have learned and apply it to my Project Manager career. For me, Academic Success will not end when that diploma is in my hand. As long as I have goals and strive to reach and set new goals, academic success will forever be in my
Research kids-based learning, in my opinion, would create value with the school system because even though the foundations are the same, the way we learn is consistently evolving daily. Under unit three it is stated that some lawmakers have a "strong sense of obligation to give children a good start in life many citizens see the un-benign neglect of children as a crisis" (Medina, 2008, p. 192). The validity of the research kids-based learning is very significant to the educational system, furthermore, it helps create better learning situations for everyone that needs it. The research that is conducted on how the students learn is significant because it is important to know if the present system work moreover updated with the time periods.
In assessing my classes, I see an average of 493 students each week. In every class there is at least one if not several students who are confessed ADD/ADHD. Many of the assignments that I prepare are for reading passages. This research has better prepared me to meet the needs of my students. Students who have ADD versus ADHD do not have the hyperactivity but their challenges are just as real. Now that I understand the difference I feel confident in my ability to better meet their academic needs in the future.
I have discovered a lot about myself in general and how to deal with many issues for myself and others. I learn to think more critical in the class and in the real world as well. This course has helped me overcome my fear of worrying. I was unsure of myself when I first start class, but I quickly learn to understand myself and other people behavior by looking at my own self first that meant on the inside and outside. I have always been goal-oriented and generally known what I want out of life. This course has helped me to know myself better. It has taught me a valuable skill that I can apply at work with the students and in the master’s degree program. I have found that I like online education, and I know that I can achieve my goals if I work hard enough. This class forced me to become more organized. Through the various assignments, I have mastered the use of technology. I learned to communicate through discussion question with my classmates and instructor.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
Class meetings allow students an opportunity to solve group issues as a class under the direction of the teacher. The students gather in a circle and each one shares their observations of the problem, but not “how the problem made them feel . . . (or their) ideas for solving it” (Crowe, 2009, p. 178). Once everyone has shared their observations, each student has the opportunity to share their feelings and solutions. If they do not have something to share or do not feel comfortable sharing their opinion they say pass. They must all agree to a solution or at least be able to live with it. This is a great way for me, a constructivist teacher, to guide students in finding solutions to
“You are requested to close the eyes.” This urging that Sigmund Freud experienced in a dream helped to unlock repressed feelings, and gave him insight into his personality. Fortunately, there are now tests available to help us to understand ourselves. Our behavior can be determined and understood by analyzing different aspects of ourselves. The four main aspects are: Decision Making, Self-Concept, Interpersonal Relationships, and Affect. Decision Making is very important.
