I wasn’t sure what to expect from this capstone class. I was sure what I wanted some knowledge and tools that I could apply to my current and future jobs.
The biggest thing I learned was how much strategic management has to do with whom you choose to hire and work with. Of course now it seems obvious as companies are made from people, not strategic plans and tactical operations. My perception was that this class would teach me more about business when choosing new products to develop, investment opportunities, and more tangible focused strategies. I learned that a team built from the right staff and executives is an intangible and organic thing. In this vein, chapter 12 and our discussion Week 6 helped me attain this learning point.
The class is only 6 weeks of content, so I realize that the time is limited and one must focus on the big-ticket items. I won’t wish for other content to replace what we learned, but given another week or two, I would have loved to have learned more about the implementation step, for which you stated we would not have time.

The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
During this course, I have learned that no matter how simple or basic a change may appear to be it requires planning from of every aspect. Someone once said if you don’t prepare, be prepared to fail. This has been a life lesson because one of my shortcomings as a leader is that I tend to not do in-depth planning and just forge ahead; this has caused failures in my past.

Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.

Before taking this capstone class, I was vaguely aware of what how the expectations were set up. With anyone capstone course, some people wanted to share their experiences with me. With this class AOD 4396 Field Research: Practice in Professional Settings many former classmates of mine who told me about their experiences with the class. Before the class had started, I was thankful to hear about the experiences and appreciated the advice I was given. In hindsight, I feel the information was superficial. It is one thing to hear about other people’s experiences and another to experience the class myself.
Large companies such as Auto Industries use teams to help build their company. Teams have several individuals working together to come up with innovated ideas to help benefit the company as a whole. The managers that are watching the challenges and progression of the team are crucial. The teams are individuals that have different experiences in the work field that come together to build creative proposals to help grow the company.
Business finance has taught me how to manage risk and return as well as making capital investment decisions throughout the semester. Professor Schott has gone through each chapter carefully well making sure that each student grasps each concept before moving on. He has used many tools such as LearnSmart, lectures and homework assignments to make sure that us students have a good idea of the concept before giving us exams.
This class was the first opportunity I had to learn about the event planning industry. I knew that it took a lot to put together an event, but I had never fully realized how much actually goes into it. As a hospitality major, event planning is a necessary skill to have even though I do not plan to become an event planner. If I had the option to start working in this industry tomorrow, there would be several things that would either help or hinder me.
