As an emerging leader whose desire is to see progress in his/her organization change is inevitable and necessary. Although change is an important component of moving forward and growing a lot of people resist change, this resistance can be contributed to our fear of the unknown which is what change represent to many people. Hence, when it comes to implementing change it would be best to start off by recognizing and identify what needs to be change ad how to bring about that change. You can’t convince others to go on a journey if you are not aware where you are going. During this course, I have learned that no matter how simple or basic a change may appear to be it requires planning from of every aspect. Someone once said if you don’t prepare, be prepared to fail. This has been a life lesson because one of my shortcomings as a leader is that I tend to not do in-depth planning and just forge ahead; this has caused failures in my past. …show more content…

I sometimes fail to see my capabilities and questioned myself as I seek to make changes. Another thing is that there are many naysayers around, people who will do their best to discourage you from pursuing your dreams. I can recall a fellow friend and co-worker once told me that it makes no use for me to get my bachelor because shortly the government won’t have money to pay us for our degree. Presently that very same friend is doing her bachelor degree. I have learned that just like a plant which does not grow will eventually die, it’s the same with humans. To never experience change is to never live. Changes are in every aspect of the universe. A person or institution that is stagnant will eventually fade away. Change is equivalent to success, it’s a necessary component of growing. Change is gradual so don’t expect to happen overnight and change can start with one person, you. Leave your mark by making changes that will benefit not only you as leader but your
institution.
A solid theoretical foundation is required to lead and manage change. For efficient and effective change to take place it must be intentional. Leadership set the tone and the direction of an organization allowing it or hindering it to change and adapt. Leader can use tactics and skills to create an organic change environment with the right change models and interventions when the organization is most ready for change.
Leading Change was named the top management book of the year by Management General. There are three major sections in this book. The first section is ¡§the change of problem and its solution¡¨ ; which discusses why firms fail. The second one is ¡§the eight-stage process¡¨ that deals with methods of performing changes. Lastly, ¡§implications for the twenty-first century¡¨ is discussed as the conclusion. The eight stages of process are as followed: (1) Establishing a sense of urgency. (2) Creating the guiding coalition. (3) Developing a vision and a strategy. (4) Communicating the change of vision. (5) Empowering employees for broad-based action. (6) Generating short-term wins. (7) Consolidating gains and producing more changes. (8) Anchoring new approaches in the culture.
In today’s ever changing world people must adapt to change. If an organization wants to be successful or remain successful they must embrace change. This book helps us identify why people succeed and or fail at large scale change. I am the kind of person who likes to be in an environment that doesn’t change to often. I’m not a fan of jumping into something new. Adapting to change is one of the hardest things for me and it is the one thing that I need to work on the most. Change happens all around us every day and I need to learn how to deal with it.
