What I love about my course is I am able to apply what I have learnt to real business scenarios. I have enjoyed exploring how different businesses operate, such as Cadburys, Timpsons, Tescos, a Coco bean plantation and many local businesses. I have done this through evaluating their marketing strategies, management styles, recruitment processes and strategic decision making. This has enabled me to understand different organisations in terms of their aims and objectives and vision to
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. I will be using what I have learned in this class still three years from, it is kind of
I found this case study particularly interesting; in retrospect this class would have been extremely helpful prior to starting my husband’s business. I now see the importance of having a clear financial plan and projection, along with a strong command of your market share. My husband and I have been able to muddle through the areas were did not know or understand in running a business, but prior knowledge would have been a valuable
Therefore, I hope that I can achieve many new valuable experiences as well as friendships through this class. As a student, I believe I have the responsibilities to pay attention in class, and contribute to the class as much as I can. Besides, I need to ensure that I finish homework before coming to class and seek for help when needed. My goal is to become a successful business woman, who has the opportunities to work with different countries and cultures around the world. I am confident that this class will help improving my analytical and organizing skills, which are helpful and beneficial for my career in the

The learning obtained from the Leadership and Organizational Behavior course has been valuable. From this course, I have learned that while someone can be a manager or a leader, it is better to be both. The various topics discussed throughout the eight week course have provided the unique insight necessary to be an effective leader. The insight gained allow for the identification of the behaviors that an effective leader must possess and continually develop. By identifying these behaviors, I am better able to shape my leadership style and goals so that I can achieve my full career potential as a leader within my organization. Ultimately, I realize that it is important to both do things right and do the right things in all my actions within an organization.
Management is a very tough job in today’s world of ambiguity, uncertainty, stiff competition and threatening environment. You have to be mentally and physically very strong to cope up the challenges posed by the current business environment. Following are the most important management skills and qualities needed for a successful manager.
After the self-assessments from the book, now I know what kind of leader I can be, what are the weakness I need to work on and how I can influence my team and the people outside my work environment. This course has taught me many different type of leadership style and one cannot be an effective leader but just following one specific style. To be an effective leader you need to assess the situation and act according to the situations.
First and foremost, effective managers are of course, required to have the basic management skills in order to be able to manage an organisation. Any managers has to possess certain technical skills which allow them to perform specialised task, particularly those first-line managers as they spend more time helping employees to solve work-related problems and they are mostly involved in supervising individual performance and instructing subordinates, for instance, ensuring that the products and services are being delivered to customers on a daily basis. (Robbins and Coulter, 2005) In other words, managers are required to possess "the ability to utilise tools, techniques, and procedures that are specific to a particular field." (Lewis, Goodman, and Fandt, 2004:12) In fact, managers are the first to look up for whenever employees encounter problems. (Griffin & Ebert, 2004)
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
Leadership is not a position or a title it is action and example. In this Reflection, I will write about course topic, Leadership examples and me as a leadership. In course topic, I turn to what was the most interesting topic to me, which topic I find it difficult and which topic I find it useful for the future. In the Leadership examples, I turn to the most interesting thing I learned about a famous leader. The most important thing that great leaders all have in common, and I describe one famous leader’s approach to leading. In me as a leadership, I turn to what did I learn about being a leader from doing the classroom activities. What I will do is I was given a job as an office manager after graduating and if I would like
Finally, this course helped me to learn new techniques about leadership and to know my role in the group. These techniques were stranger to me when we had started. Later, I understand they are beneficial and while in group I tried a few of them and I think they will be beneficial in my future life too.
Leadership and management are two fundamental concepts which are involved in the effective management of organizations. Leadership in my opinion is a complex concept, which includes association of human qualities and the result of their activities. To be a great leader means not only following own visions, but also work towards company’s goals.
