Over the last three years that I have been in the Marching 200, I have learned many great lessons that have made me into a strong leader. For example, punctuality. I always try to be half an hour early to band practices because it allows me extra time to get onto the field and have all of my supplies. Even if I am coming to practice late due to a field hockey practice, I will be running to get on the field to get as much time in as possible. Another example of leadership I have learned this year comes from leading our clarinet choir. I would always remind everyone of the rehearsals and I would encourage the other clarinets to practice with fun rewards like gold star stickers. When we rehearsed, I would set a metronome and listen to the others
Throughout the years of being a student at Council Rock, I have come to the realization of what a true leader is. A leader is not someone that just plans events, collects money, or shows up to meetings. Rather, this is someone that has a true connection with their peers, and has unmatched passion for what they do. With this, I can confidently say that since seventh grade, as a young adult, I have been shaped into an individual that fits these traits. Since that time, I have been involved in student government,
Erik Erikson was heavily influenced by Freud but while Freud was an ID psychologist, Erikson was an ego psychologist. Erikson stressed that the development of the ego depended heavily on personal and social aspects. “According to Erikson, the ego develops as it successfully resolves crises that are distinctly social in nature. These involve establishing a sense of trust in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and helping the next generation prepare for the future” (McLeod, S. 1970). His theory focused on personality development through eight distinct stages. He believed that personality progressed in a stacking or pre-determined manner, this is referred to as the epigenetic principle. One must
It takes a long time to become an effective and respected leader but can evaporate very quickly with one misstep. It needs to be nurtured and cultivated every day. My personal leadership style is to observe and correct. As a junior member, one of my Chief told me, “I don’t care how long it takes you to do a job as long as you do it right the first time because if it is wrong you will be the one fixing it.” That resonated with me because it allowed me to take risks and learn from my mistakes making me a better technician. I firmly believe one of the best learning tools is failure. His statement let me know it was all right to fail but if you do you will be learning from it. Identifying weaknesses within my leadership abilities and striving to correct them will result in being consistently looked upon a leader within our
The practical assignment consisted of effectively producing and presenting a style and adaptation that I have selected based on my image of a leading organization that I have researched and would like to seek employment. The assignment required me to project manage the production of the two styles and produce photographic evidence to be presented in a portfolio, including both original and digitally enhanced images. The entire Graded Unit is for the purpose of showing that I have learned and achieved all aspects of HNC hairdressing.
I’ve demonstrated leadership qualities in various ways throughout my time at high school. During the drafting competition, my group needed some confidence and someone there to help guide them to victory, and I was there to help them. A group works together, but sometimes you need a leader. This leader will help facilitate and get the group to do what they’re supposed to do. I think I helped ease off their nerves and I told them to relax and do how we practiced. This paid off because we placed first place and each of us
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
An effective leader is confident. I am not afraid to speak to large groups of people and give directions. If I do not understand a task, I will not be afraid to ask for clarification. Additionally, I am a very outgoing person. This will aid me to be an effective leader because I will not be afraid to talk to new people or go out of my way to help a fellow band member who is in need. Another quality which will make me an effective leader is that I am a great listener. I will listen to all directions the first time they are spoken and execute them to the best of my ability. Also, because I am a good listener I will be able to learn things quickly. I take all advice and critiques to heart so I can improve my skills with each time I practice. Because I am able to receive directions the first time I will also be able to help my peers to complete the task as well and will be able to answer other members’ questions. An effective leader is also able to teach others. I have had a lot of experience with teaching others so I know I will be able to teach other marchers how to improve on their skills and become the best marchers they can be. Also because I am very patient, I will be able to work with members who are having a harder time with a certain task without getting angry or frustrated with them. In addition to being patient, I am a role model. An effective leader knows that others are always watching
The term Wesleyan Quadrilateral is a theological method used to study scripture. It was believed that theologian John Wesley studied scriptures in the Bible using three lenses, hence where the Wesleyan Quadrilateral gets its name. These three lenses are tradition, reason, and experience. While quad means four and tradition, reason, and experience are only three terms, they each communicate a way that scripture can be studied, therefore the term scripture completes the quadrilateral. It is important to study scripture using the Wesleyan Quadrilateral because Wesley was known as being a relevant theologian and his views on scripture have lasted over two centuries. The Wesleyan quadrilateral is still relevant today as it provides a method for discovering the things of God, ourselves, and lets us know who God really is. For the purposes of this reflection paper I would like to summarize the four components of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral and then reflect personally upon each term as how it relates to the Christian theologian.
For me, the most important leadership lesson I learned in high school was the ability to start leading groups as opposed to just serving my role in one. As the students who attend HSLC begin their transition to being upperclassmen, they are finally starting to fill top leadership positions in their high schools and communities. As I entered junior year and into senior year, I started to find myself in positions that required me to be in charge of the committees and start delegating instructions as opposed to just taking them. This is why I believe it is important for high school juniors to learn how to organize a meeting, assign tasks and work with the individuals of their team. To be able to allow the campers at HSLC to learn this, I think
I feel like I have grown a significant amount over the course of the semester. Coming into this class, I was not necessarily sure what to expect. I am extremely appreciative of the fact that you were very straight-forward with us. It was evident that you cared about your students doing well. As a future mental health professor, I appreciate that you were always willing to help. So, thank you. Before entering EPSY 341, I did not really have a position on multicultural education. Now, I would say that I am excited to have patient who are culturally diverse that I can relate to and help to my full potential. I have appropriate strategies to help culturally diverse clients. I know how to include everyone, regardless of their culture, disabilities, etc. I feel confident in the information I learned, and I am eager to show off what I know.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
"A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be
The one thing I believe that I need to work on as a leader would be my confidence. As a section leader in the band program I have been faced with many problems of confidence. It’s challenging for myself to try and stay confident in front of other people, especially those that I must teach. For example, with every presentation I have given this year so far I have always looked down at my paper so as to not make eye contact with my audience.
I learned that being able communicate was vital. Everybody contributed to the outcome of the show, and they ran their ideas past me. Some of the ideas were not so good, but some of the ideas were just great! Whether it was them changing up the music a bit, or them adding a visual, the ideas helped push the show forwards. One thing I learned was that personally, I need to work on staying grounded. That is a key ingredient to a great leader and I was lacking that ability. So often I allowed the stress of marching band consume me and that didn’t help anyone. I need to work on keeping my own stress to myself and not pushing it onto the people that I’m trying to
Exceptional leaders lead by example. As a second year Marching Hawk, I have set an exceptional example with my exceptional attitude. As a sophomore I am given the opportunity to model leadership to not only the freshman in my section but also the band. I feel I am a good role model for them because I show my dedication to the band, and I encourage mutual respect with all of the bandies. During the 2016-2017 marching season, I would tell myself that no matter what had happened during the school day, band was the time to put any possible issues or stress I had aside. I have the motivation to be focused and express positivity through my attitude in order to uplift others. For example, this year was another year of great success for our band; I
