The vision that I have for myself before I graduate from the Haskayne School of Business (HSB) is to achieve academic excellence, whilst continuing to shine in other aspects of my life: relationships, health and fitness; and community involvement. To achieve my vision, I must utilize my strengths effectively, not to let one overshadow another. The first strength I possess is that I am a natural-born leader; I am confident in my ideas and I aim to inspire others to always achieve personal excellence. My position as a General Consultant with the Commerce Undergraduate Society has inspired me to strive for a leadership position within the club, such as vice president of one of our portfolios. The next strength I possess that will help me to achieve
my vision is that I am diligent and hard working, always striving for excellence in everything I do. Through my experiences in the world of competitive bodybuilding, I understand the value of hard work, and I know the rewards that may follow. Third, due to my position as a lead lifeguard in a busy and fast moving environment, I have a high tolerance for stress. Under a demanding situation, I can keep my composure and carry out what needs to be done accurately and efficiently. Also, my persistence allows me to rise in the face of adversity. I will continue to push through a task until I succeed, or I realize my expectations are unrealistic. Last, I have strong problem-solving skills which help me to “think outside the box” and come up with unorthodox ideas that will work to resolve a difficult solution. Now, I know I have qualities that I must improve on in order to achieve the vision I have for myself. I must work on my writing skills so that I am able to communicate effectively with my professors, and employers. Next, I must work on becoming more altruistic. Being involved in a sport where there are no teammates can cause you to focus on only your goals, disregarding those who surround you. Another vice that I must strive to improve on would be the fact that I argue a lot, which may cause conflicts with those I converse with. Next, I should work on my time management; especially considering I live a busy on-the-go lifestyle where I need to be efficient so that I will have time to build relationships and network with new people. Finally, I am often very independent, and

Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
The way a leader is defined and remembered is not only through his actions and accolades, his followers and the leaders he developed also go into a leader’s legacy. Much like a legendary football coach, whose coaching tree goes on to do great things, I desire to join an organization that not only assist in my development as a leader, but also facilitate in the development of others as well. How could I contribute to the development of leaders? My largest contribution will come from my experience of being the United States military, where I was not only trained how to become an efficient leader, I was also taught on how to facilitate the growth and development of others leaders as well. I am able to accurately assess and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of an individual and assist in the development of a plan of action to address these areas. One of my personal beliefs is that vast knowledge is useless unless it is passed down to someone. With that being said I take every opportunity possible to share any knowledge that has helped me along the way.
Finding Your Voice: Learning to Lead…Anywhere You Want to Make a Difference, by Larraine R. Matusak is a book, which explains the proper way to incorporate leadership into one’s life. The author approaches the topic of Leadership with a quite passionate point of view. Matusak observes leadership through a very wide lens. In other words, she is a firm believer that there is more than one way to effectively carry out the act of leadership. The author is on a mission to bring out the natural leadership skillset in all people, and too encourage anyone and everyone to find a way to lead in life. The main focus of the book is the fact that one does not require any sort of title or major position of power to live out their passion and to customize leadership opportunities for their individual talents. This very concept was stressed constantly throughout this book, along with the idea of weaving a shared vision. Weaving a shared vision is a very important aspect of leadership because it involves shaping all minds involved in an organization to point them towards a common goal. Let’s take a look at some of the main points that Matusak states in her book.
Before taking the StrengthsFinder® assessment I didn’t know what type of leader I was, but I felt I had leadership traits that I could not describe. After answering several questions from the Clifton StrengthsFinder® 2.0, I found out my top five strengths. These strengths consist of individualization, arranger, learner, input and responsibility. The purpose of this paper is to go over my top five strengths to talk about which four domains of leadership these strengths fall under, how class material is applied, and the actions to best utilize my strengths.
Leaders don’t have the availability and expertise to know all much less do all in the business world. Knowing one’s own strengths and weaknesses is beneficial to become an effective leader. This understanding allows a superior to know, when they can effectively deal with a situation or when one of their colleagues or subordinates would be better suited to handle the situation. Moreover, this information allows for the boss’ own personal growth and mentorship of others.
Since I was a young girl, I have always aspired to be someone who lifts people up and positively impacts my community. Throughout the past few years, I have taken on several different leadership roles through organizations that I have participated in. The skills I have developed from these roles has given me the opportunity to grow into the inspiring woman I used to dream of within my school, with my friends, and with my family.
A second strength is the value being added to the organization from each member’s contributions and development of their own leadership skills. This strength allows for members to become recognized with their impressive qualities which would allow for succession to existing leadership roles or new roles as they become available. This is an advantage to the organization by building strong foundational skills for future success of the organization as well as the employee.
Sky is the limit for whoever that makes career advancement the priority. Others are motivated and encouraged by the service of their leaders from the laid down good example that is shown to them. Understanding the strength and the weakness of the working team as an individual is one of the characteristics of a good leader, which helps in assisting them when needed and also a source of strength for them as well (Rankin, 2015).
Future leaders will need to be agile and adaptive, regardless of their experiences. Passion will lead peers to higher levels of achievement and performance. We as a team produce the capacity to accomplish missions and provide the pieces others rely on to produce their part. The pursuit of higher knowledge and understanding is the fundamental piece to the production of actionable information needed. Discipline determines the ability to have perseverance through difficult times. To take on a personal task of this magnitude, a passion in your field of expertise is vital to the
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Success as business leaders come from a combination of context and characteristics. Most business leaders possess certain characteristics such as vision, perseverance and risk tolerance; but it was less of their possession of any specific set of characteristics, rather than the deployment of them in ways that capitalized on the context in which they found themselves that set these leaders apart. Business schools, such as Ted Rogers should aid students in the process of understanding and appreciating the contexts in which they will operate. In addition, they should help to refine and enhance an individual’s understanding of his or her own leadership potential. The biographies of great leaders suggest that some leaders may well have had natural talents that were apparent early in their lives, which they were in a sense born leaders. Equally, though, there were just as many who appeared to have learned to lead over time, from mentors, from experience and from education. This will affect Ryerson in the future as many people who graduate from the program may have all the academic tools with them but will not have any leadership skills which is just as important, if not more important in the business world
The strength of my leadership is when I experience problems in short time and my mind become blank, don’t know what to do or were to start and were to end. Due to this situation I keep calm and talk to my members about this problem and we share ideas on how to solve it and at the end I combine all the ideas and now I can be able to solve to solve this problem effectively. The most im...
