Ryerson university is composed of 36,000+ undergraduate students, 2,000+ graduate students, and 70,000 yearly certificate and continuing education registrations and is ranked 4th in Ontario and 10th in Canada by student enrollment (). Moreover, Ryerson University is home to Canada's largest undergraduate business school, the Ted Rogers School of Management. Success as business leaders come from a combination of context and characteristics. Most business leaders possess certain characteristics such as vision, perseverance and risk tolerance; but it was less of their possession of any specific set of characteristics, rather than the deployment of them in ways that capitalized on the context in which they found themselves that set these leaders apart. Business schools, such as Ted Rogers should aid students in the process of understanding and appreciating the contexts in which they will operate. In addition, they should help to refine and enhance an individual’s understanding of his or her own leadership potential. The biographies of great leaders suggest that some leaders may well have had natural talents that were apparent early in their lives, which they were in a sense born leaders. Equally, though, there were just as many who appeared to have learned to lead over time, from mentors, from experience and from education. This will affect Ryerson in the future as many people who graduate from the program may have all the academic tools with them but will not have any leadership skills which is just as important, if not more important in the business world …show more content…
They have great facilities such as advanced computer labs where students can work and use the most advanced computer programs. Ted Rogers also offers breakout rooms which is a group study and discussion room which can be booked for three hours a day with a maximum ofsix hours per week, which is perfect for focusing on the given task without any noise or distractions. On top of these great features that Ted Rogers offers, they also offer study spaces that overlook the center courtyard, accessible bathrooms on each floor that are not gender-specific – the Ted Rogers School of Management is the only building on campus to offer these, 227 access points on ceilings all over the Ted Rogers School of Management, which has made the building’s Wi-Fi faster and reliable, and RU Dining, which operates out of the Cara Commons, is a student-run dining room serving lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester. Not knowing what Ted Rogers has to offer due to lack of advertising could affect how many students choose to apply or transfer to this program. Future students don’t know what to expect coming to a new school and will question their decision about whether or not to come to this school or choose another school. The most important thing a school can offer is a good reputation and having more and more students graduate with degrees making the school

... the cafeteria over 100 seats are available, so the surrounding will actually help people to be more engaging to their friends. Also, there are many events was held in the building, such as ISU after dark and some very significant speeches were taken place inside the building. The most exciting event I have been through was the orientation. It was taken place in the “Sun Room”, where can be a hall of party and auditorium of a speech. Outside the room there are soft sofa available to students to seat down and read, and the beverage bar will not be far, so why not get a drink and seat for a novel.

Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
As a whole, Warren Bennis defined the values and achievement plan for becoming the most successful leader one can be. He highlighted the link between self knowledge and business. A leader is not just “doing a job” or “running a company,” but it’s finding one’s personal vision. Bennis tries to do as much as he possibly he can to shatter this myth. Today, more people are starting to learn what leadership exactly means and what is expected of a leader. It might be evident that in the future competition will be harder
It’s just pure myth that only a lucky few can ever understand the intricacies of leadership. Leadership is not a gene, and it’s not a secret code that can’t be deciphered by ordinary people. The truth is that leadership is an observable set of skills and abilities that are useful in any campus, community, or work setting. And any skill can be strengthened, honed, and enhanced, given the motivation and desire, along with practice and feedback, role models, and coaching. (Kouzes and Posner 145)
Leadership has always been a diligently studied subject; the art and science of being an effective leader is something that most people would like to successfully cultivate. However, reading every book on the subject does not guarantee successful leadership – it only assists in the understanding of how others flourished in their methods. A technique that worked in one situation may reap havoc on another – such as Spartacus taking over as the leader of the people in India instead of Ghandi. The key to leading is understanding the circumstances you are in and the kind of behavior that will secure covenantal followers. Furthermore, even if an individual was not born with specific personality traits that are advantageous to potential leaders, if
At traditional colleges today, students live on campus at some point of their academic career and one physically attends lectures. In “The Future of College?”, Graeme Wood reports Minerva College as an alternative to traditional colleges that eliminates the problems in higher education. Minerva is a revolutionary college that challenges the traditional way of learning by operating online and minimizing the traditional campus size. In “Why We Should Fear University Inc.,” Fredrik De Boer discusses the way colleges are mismanaged and has led to students feeling entitled to avoid discussions due to their feelings. He also points out the continuous competition, to keep the appearance of institutions updated, is being funded by the costly of tuition. The Minerva College experience could replicate the traditional college student experience at FAU because although it is online, students are forced to interact with teachers and one another. Also, the tuition is less costly than at traditional colleges and guarantees diversification.

This opens the floodgates to leadership development, as opposed to simple psychometric assessment that sorts those with leadership potential from those who will never have the chance.” This theory does not seek inborn traits or capabilities; rather they look at what leaders actually do.(Changing minds). Behavioural theory suggests that leadership requires a strong personality with a well-developed positive ego; self-confidence is essential.(Boundless,
From corporations to nonprofits and higher education institutions, leaders – the cornerstone and foundation of organizations – are ultimately responsible for its success. Nonetheless, leadership, often described as complex, can mean different things to different people. Given no standard approach to leadership exists, scholars focus on the process of leadership as opposed to the definition (Northouse, 2013). As a process, leadership is not simply possessing formal authority, traits, or attributes. Quite the reverse, leadership is primarily a relationship – engagement and interactive exchange – between leaders and followers (Morrill, 2007; Northouse, 2013). Effective leadership, commonly regarded as both a learned skill and innate ability, is
The role of leadership can impact an organization performance in many ways. Excellent leadership can propel a company to the fortune five hundred list. For Example, Harpo Incorporated Oprah Winfrey’s company is a successful business that has made billions of dollars over the years. The business consists of several different entities such as the Oprah Show, Oprah Winfrey Network, and The Dr. Phil Show to name a few. This could not have been accomplished with a weak or uneducated leader. Many years ago I heard her give advice to the Williams Sisters. The a...
