I have been a part of a couple mentoring programs, both as a mentee and as someone working behind the scene. My mentors helped me transition into a new stage of my life and they helped shape who I am today. The T.E.A.M Mentor Program has positively affected my time at Bucknell University. I would love to be part of the program and help guide incoming students in their transition into the Bucknell community.
Being part of T. E.A.M has been both fun, and very helpful. I met one of my closest friends at Bucknell through this program. I have also gained someone who I can look up to, who has gone through what I am going through now, and who I feel comfortable

I have not been directly affected due to my culture and race, but I am aware that issues based around cultures and races arise around campus. I understand this campus is not very diverse which can be uncomfortable to some people. There are some students were raised in less diverse areas and that can cause issues even if it’s not purposeful. People tend to stick with people who are similar to them and because of that, some people may have a lot of friends, while others may feel excluded and unwanted.
What will you bring to the table to improve TEAM?
I have been a mentee in three mentoring programs and I understand from firsthand experience how important mentors have been in my life. Each relationship was very different; one of my mentors was about two generations older than me, while my two more recent mentors have been only a few years older than me.

Why mentoring is important, attributes of good
Through serving in various leadership roles, I reignited my passion for mentoring and fostering lasting relationships. Particularly as a science teaching assistant, I became a leader and counselor by teaching classes, utilizing metaphors to explain complex science, and encouraging others by relating to their struggles. Also, I discovered the importance of truly being in the moment by being receptive to others’ unvoiced problems. Most notably, this position taught me that we can all learn something new from each other as I experienced before with Abby. All these benefits incited me to create a mentorship program on my college campus that pairs accomplished seniors with younger students. There is little scientific knowledge when it comes to mentoring effects on future outcomes; in addition posing confusion as to how these programs continue to emerge. A major component in regards to program effectiveness is in measurement or evaluation of its structure (Deutsch, N., & Spencer, R., 2009). This is done by conducting surveys, focus groups, and interviews (Deutsch, N., & Spencer, R. (2009); Karcher, M., & Nakkula, M. (2010); Diehl, D. C., Howse, R. B., & Trivette, C. M. Mentoring can be that hand that reaches down and pulls you out of the pit. Mentoring can change lives forever and create permanent relationships. Mentoring can help a child get on the right track if they do not have someone else to help them. Whether they have grown up without active parents, have gotten into trouble from time to time, or even if they are a straight A student, the youth needs mentoring. This report focused on Peer Coaching as the coaching relationship brings to light what the person being coached already knows, but may not know he or she knows, and then helping the persons to make decisions and take action so he or she can move forward to some goal he or she has or a dream he or she wants to achieve. Coaching is a method of facilitating affirmative change that impacts an organizational leader’s performance, development of particular skills, which leads to a broader sense of personal growth.
My sophomore year we were given the option to mentor at one of our schools during a study hall period that we had. I decided that this was a good opportunity to help out a teacher and learn a lot through the experience. My sophomore year I mentored for fourth and fifth grade special education. I absolutely loved helping the kids out with their school work but also aiding in someone that they could talk to that wasn’t an adult and be comfortable with. By the end of the year I had some great relationships with some of the students that I had worked with and it was an overall life-changing experience.

Based on my previous and new knowledge of what Peer Mentors do and what it means to be a Peer Mentor, I want to be a Peer Mentor because I understand how crucial and important it is for all girls entering Vis to feel welcomed and embraced into our wonderful community! My experience with mentoring the freshman went pretty well. The freshman that seeked advice on high school from me would be named armando. I already knew him, because my mom is really good friends with his mom since i was a child. It is important to mentor others because some people need to be guided into the right path.
