I am writing to apply to the Hispanic scholarship Found Scholarship. I am a first-year student in Civil Engineering at UTA where I am involved in various activity groups and work part time to help pay for my tuition. I believe that I am an excellent candidate for the HSF Scholarship as I possess all the requirements set forth in the requirements. I am and excellent student, passionate volunteer, and a hard working first generation college student. Throughout my educational career I have always excelled in the classroom. I recently graduated high school, being in the top three percent of my class, all while being a captain in the varsity football team and working full time. My high school GPA was a 4.0, and I received many awards, including First Team All-State for academics. Currently, I have a 3.5 GPA at UTA, while working part time and being involved in various school organizations. Academics are very important for me because it represents a better, more financially stable …show more content…
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me. Over all, I believe I embody the type of person this foundation is trying to help through this scholarship. This scholarship would mean the world to me and my family, it would help me achieve all my goals and dreams. I am confident that I am a Strong Candidate for the HSF Scholarship, and I believe I am very well rounded in all aspects of the requirements. Thank you for conserving my
The current trend in lack of Latina/o students attending college combines a lack of college readiness with a deficiency in resources to prepare this student population. More and more higher education scholars are accepting these deficiencies as roadblocks to college access, and are looking to preparation programs and parent educational resources as a subject worthy of consideration. There are many different challenges being faced by this population, a population that is according to Oliva and Nora, “the fastest growing minority population in the country”(Oliva & Nora, 2004). Research shows that “less than 43% of Hispanic high school students are qualified to enroll in 4 year institutions”(Saunders & Serna, 2004). With the rapid growth in population, this minority group needs advocacy for equal opportunities in higher learning now more than ever.
My first experience that involved contribution to a community was in an organization known as girls as pearls. In this organization we participated in many volunteer activities, both domestic and global such as making dresses for girls in africa or volunteering at the samaritan ministry. Consequently, this early volunteerism experience influenced my involvement in the community as a high school student. I became involved in organizations such as key club, an organization focused in volunteerism. Additionally, I began to tutor middle school students and volunteering at the local church. Many of the volunteer activities that I have participate in involved children and this due to the reason that I want to be able to become a positive guide and role model for children. I want to contribute to their motivation of continuing their education and to reach for goals that they believe they can achieve. As a hispanic american I have been provided the opportunity of experiencing life from two different viewpoints which has provided me with various life lessons that aided in my development in becoming a successful and well- rounded
My academic career has been quite good. Currently, I have a GPA of 3.575, according to Powerschool, and have seven 90s and one 100 in my eight classes. I have always succeeded academically and have always been proud of it.
I believe that in order to be a part of this program that I need to excel academically and demonstrate the characteristics that NJHS looks for. I should be chosen to be a member of this program because I display the characteristics required to be a part of NJHS. Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character are all things that I show and that I know I have. If I am chosen to be a part of this program, I promise to follow through as best as I can do. I will fulfill my duties as a member of NJHS and help others to the best of my
I need this scholarship to achieve my goals and most importantly to make my family proud. My family did not get this chance that you are giving me so I am not just doing this for me, I am also doing this for them. I already have all the support from all of my family and all of my friends, but that alone is not enough to conquer my dreams, and to prove all the people that have doubted me that they were wrong. I hope that this organization can help me reach my goals, and to most importantly make them become a reality. I want to look back onto my life and know that this scholarship, and college helped me to be the man I will be. I hope you accept me into your college and most importantly giving me this
Thank You scholarship selection committee for selecting me to be one of this years scholarship recipients. I am honored to have received this award that will help me along this new chapter of my life. The Hispanic Development Fund Scholarship will help me tremendously to help me pay for my fees at Park University. It helps my parents and I to worry less about paying for college. I plan to major in biology to later get in toxicology. I’m very passionate about the field that I want to pursue. Without the support that this organization gives to many students many of us wouldn’t be able to have the opportunity to go to college to accomplish our dreams. I will work very hard to not let this organization down, my family and myself down. Thank you
Community Service has become one of my favorite pastimes, because no matter what I am doing, I am able to see how my help makes an impact on so many people. In my career, Service will be prominent because, not only will I be working to be of service to whomever I am working with, but I also will volunteer my time to non-for-profits or other worthy organizations in need of an interpreter. In my community, I will, without a doubt, continue to volunteer for as many different organizations as possible, for as much time as I possibly
I hope you are doing well. We spoke awhile back about the scholarship I received from the African American committee. I followed the instructions in the email you gave me but I have yet to receive a response. I just wanted to make sure that I had done what I needed to receive the scholarship award.
Throughout my high school career I have participated in various service projects that demonstrate my true passion for using my academic skills to give back to my community. For example, I was born and raised in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, which directly neighbors the West Englewood neighborhood where I attend school at Lindblom Math
In order to fulfill the LHS requirements for community service, I served my 40 hours in an elementary school. There I assisted kids with their work and had the privilege to get to meet every single individual. I interacted more with the teacher and helped her out with the kids who needed that extra help with either their reading or other classwork they have not accomplished. It was exciting and educational because I got to learn new things everytime I went. There were times where I gave my full attention to just that one kid who was really struggling to catch up to his other classmates. Yes, at times it was difficult to get certain kid’s attention but t the end of the day I accomplished my goal and felt proud of myself
Academics have been extremely important to me for as long as I can remember, and continue to be. All throughout my K-12 education I worked hard and found school to be a coveted safe place away from my rough home life that I could thrive in. I graduated at Puyallup High School with an above average GPA and moved on to Pierce College in Puyallup where I earned my associates degree. I then got married within the week of my last final at Pierce College, and starting my first class at Central Washington University. I had planned it perfectly, and had moving, a three day honeymoon, and furniture shopping penciled into the hellish week as well.
What I have done to make my community a better place is volunteer for San Bernardino Generation Now. When the San Bernardino Generation Now was clean the Seccombe Lake Park I went to volunteer. I needed to volunteer to places because I needed volunteer service for Avid for school. The thing that they had me do was look for fishing wires around the kids play ground. They also provided me with water and food. Another thing they had me do was go around the pound and try to pick up all the trash or a dead animal. I remember one time I was walking around the pound and I seen a dead crow. So I started to walk toward the dead crow and pick it up and throw in the bag that I carried. They also had me paint the light pole two different colors. The two
I plan to achieve the 25 hours of community service by making a schedule and in my free time I will complete some community service. I plan to be active in my community because I want to have long lasting impact on the community. I want to be known for my hardwork, dedication, and positivity. I want to help others because I love helping others and making them happy. I want everyone to feel loved and happy. Giving back to the community is important because it is for a good cause, you are exposed to different opportunities, and it helps build your character and
It’s truly amazing how ones people’s actions can change the world in so many ways. I may still be young but I refuse to sit aside and let others struggle with issues I know I can help with. The best part about community service is not only does it help and benefit others it makes each person feel so good to have put a smile on someone else’s face. I’m so excited to see how my South Dakota trip goes this summer and I can’t wait to get back to my students in August. I hope my drive to help others never dims for the feelings I gain from helping others is truly
Some people do community service because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I have volunteered over 300 hours of community service at a local elementary. I helped children complete their homework assignments and spend quality time with them while their parents work late. I read to the children and played with them when their parents do not have the time.
