What I have done to make my community a better place is volunteer for San Bernardino Generation Now. When the San Bernardino Generation Now was clean the Seccombe Lake Park I went to volunteer. I needed to volunteer to places because I needed volunteer service for Avid for school. The thing that they had me do was look for fishing wires around the kids play ground. They also provided me with water and food. Another thing they had me do was go around the pound and try to pick up all the trash or a dead animal. I remember one time I was walking around the pound and I seen a dead crow. So I started to walk toward the dead crow and pick it up and throw in the bag that I carried. They also had me paint the light pole two different colors. The two
I help out my family and community in several ways. I have volunteered to help coach cheerleading at Jefferson Elementary School everyday after school. I work at Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and coach several classes and their gymnastics team. I also work in my church's nursery on Sundays. Being a role model for all of the kids I coach and take care of means a lot to me because they look up to me and want to follow in my footsteps. Despite my busy schedule, I try to help out in the community and with my family as much as
4. Community service: Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time.Required
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me.
My responsibilities during my community service were as followed: I go to the synagogue Montreal Torah Center down my street. They have a group for teens my age called Cteens. It is a group where lots of teens my age come and do something different each time to help the community. This year my friend Anabelle and I got invited to participate. Considering it is a Jewish synagogue, we sometimes base what we do on the holidays. To me, community service is simply helping out your community or city. I always thought that ‘hey, what will one basket make a difference to a child’ but one time I actually went to deliver the basket to whom I made it for. The smile on the child’s face showed me that one basket does actually make a difference and...
Within any community we must take an active role by volunteering. Volunteering can be anything, from ones time, money, food, or even clothes.
One thing that really bothers me is how much I changed. I used to play games all day, not focus on school, wouldn't get in serious trouble, and was very innocent compared to my present day self. There are cons and pros of my past self compared to how I am currently. I am more happy of how I am now then I am before. As time changes, so do I and I can not stop that. What’s done has already been done and can’t be changed so you always have to look towards the future and never the past. The past will not definite who you are today unless you let it. I would have never expect that I would be transferred to a continuation high school in my freshman year. It is a bad thing to many people, but I am thankful that I am sent to it because I will learn
When I volunteered at the Boys & Girls club, there was these group of girls who were friends but then an hour later one of the girls were crying for whatever reason. One day two of the girls came up to me looking distressed; they said that the others were making fun and talking behind their backs. When they told me this it remind of a time back when I was younger and I had the same issue, the only difference was being who I was I let them walk all over me and I didn't want that for these girls. I gathered these girls together and just tell them to speak to one another, get what you say off your chest, free yourself, after I told them this they just started talking and saying what problems they had with each other. After they talked about their
As an African American woman, I have lived and worked in underserved communities and have experienced personally, the social and economic injustices grieved by underserved communities and the working poor. All of which, has increased my desires to work with such populations. A reserved person by nature, I have exposed an inner voice that I was oblivious to. I have expressed my inner voice to those living in underserved communities, who are seeking social and economic stability. I have come to classify and value the strength I have developed by the need, to survive in an underserved community. I use these as my continuous struggle against the social and economic injustices that I have experienced, as a product of an underserved community and as an African American woman. I have continued my struggle to overcome the barriers from my upbringing in an underserved community.
I have always pushed myself to be as active as possible in a variety of clubs, leadership roles, and community activities, and being involved in organizations such as FFA, National Honor Society, and Student Council, as well as being the senior class president, have all guided me down a path of volunteering and helping out the community more than I ever thought possible. Although I have participated in a variety of community service activities like trash pickup, painting local park benches, helping in the local blood drive, setting up for the Grand River Homemaker's Silent Auction, and a variety of other activities, there is one community service project I was a part of that really opened my eyes to the difference one can make in their
I am walking past the north entrance of meijer, where I work, with my dinner in one hand and my receipt in the other and all of a sudden I hear “Wrenn nae-nae” and I know who it is. It’s Joe, he’s the only one who ever calls me that and he knows that I don’t like it when he calls me that, but I know that he means no harm or foul. He is just messing with me.
Finally, my most favorite form of community service; volunteering at a local church sponsored Vacation Bible School. This is a place that kids feel at home, they get a snack, and they get a lesson that helps them to distinguish the right from the wrong in their lives. All of these acts are very influential and can have drastically positive impacts on a small community if we continue to stay positive and teach our kids this way. Community service projects have never been frowned upon, and they can have a long lasting, positive impact and effect on a
Helping out a community is extremely important and self-rewarding. It’s always nice to give back to your community that you’re a part of. I was taught that being a good person means to feel compassion, guilt, and empathy and I have taken that with me everywhere. These qualities are necessary when wanting to help others. It is important to give back to your community to meet people, make a difference, and gain confidence.
This year, I had the opportunity to give back to the community in many ways. I volunteered at Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and the county Science Museum. These volunteering experiences further opened my eyes to the needs of my community and the many opportunities to serve by volunteering.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
