When teachers and academicians look at students they see ambition, success, and discipline. For five days a week, as a student, I spend six to seven hours, sitting in a desk, striving to get the best education possible. I believe that high school serves a better benefit than detriment, but rather, academic success and personal development. It takes a combination of skills, organizing, prioritization, and concentration to achieve academic success and personal development. To be academically successful one must fulfill in becoming all that they are capable of becoming. Our contemporary generation is disintegrating and losing morals. Although, we have inspirational people who try to edify us to our true and insightful meaning. The keys to academic success and personal development does not happen overnight, but rather, a process that one should learn over the years. As a high school senior I have learned that one must be motivated. One needs that drive or goal, that energizes their behavior towards a goal. Without being motivated we can have academic success. When a person is motivated th...
Motivation comes in all different forms, and it depends on how a person perceives it. Motivation can be anything, and affects each person differently. A person can have multiple ways of inspiration that encourage them to succeed. A person has to be at the right place in the right time, and it’s just a matter of finding it.
School now days kids like to think it is to “hard” or they don't have the motivation to keep up in school. In high school you are being taught responsibility, you learn lessons. Sometimes the hard way. As students, we should try and succeed in academics as well as doing our best to succeed in sports. Sports to some kids are there only way out. Kids that live in bad neighborhoods, kids that hardly have enough to get them by, and them are the kids that realize they need the motivation in school because high school is a big deal.
People with self-control and motivation learn more effectively in the long run. In Paul Tough's book; How Children Succeed, he discussed various factors that contribute to success which included Self-Control and Motivation. Many could argue that self-control and motivation don’t make a difference academically, but on the contrary; both are good tools to utilize in an educational capacity. One needs self-control to focus on studying rather than hanging out with their friends. Self-control can be the difference between failing or succeeding in college. Often times you see motivation and self-control work hand in hand. Motivation can be a helpful technique to use in the learning process. Self-control and motivation when used in a learning environment can be highly effective in the outcome of success.
Being motivated is not just about a good end result, but it is about acquiring an ingrained mindset that empowers and directs one’s behavior. (Tan, OS, Parsons, R. D., Hinson, S. L., & Sardo-Brown, D., 2011) Mary Doe can clearly be seen to be unmotivated in learning as seen from her low expectations of success. She is seen to have a low gauge of her ability, which leads to her low confidence, and lowered motivation towards her academics. We will explore the possible causes, as well as solutions to aid the improvement of her motivation in learning.
The purpose of a high school education is to prepare one for college and ultimately, the workforce. By the end of freshman year, in high school, the average student has learned a sufficient amount of material in enough subjects that he or she can be considered "well-rounded" in his or her studies. This is because the rate at which material is covered in schools, across the nation, has increased dramatically compared to the past. Students now learn more advanced curriculum at a younger age, and this continues to become more evident year after year. High school has now become more focused on teaching students a small amount of information on several essential subjects, rather than having them focus deeply on the subjects they seek to pursue in their career.
There is, without a doubt, a certain segment of the adolescent population that feels, for themselves, high school is a waste of time. Many of these students believe that they have already acquired
There are many ways in which motivation can be defined. Generally speaking, motivation comprises an individual’s effort, persistence and the direction of that effort. In simple terms, it is the will to perform. (Brooks, I, 2006). Eugene Mckenna thinks that with motivation, people respond to conditions operating within and outside themselves, and go the extra mile at their role. To motivate people, elements such as needs, motives, drives and goals or incentives of individuals have to be looked at.(Mckenna, E, 2000).
Many researches have been conducted to investigate what motivates students for better academic performance and whether it has a correlation with achievement motivation.
Motivation is key in the workplace. It is developed from the collaboration of both conscious and unconscious principles such as the strength of desire or need, motivating force or reward estimation of the objective, and desires of the person and of his or her peers/co-workers. These elements are the reasons one has for carrying on a specific way. An illustration is an understudy that invests additional energy contemplating for a test since he or she needs a superior review in the class. The Inside and outside principles that animate want and vitality in individuals to be constantly intrigued and centered around their work, part or subject, or to try to achieve an objective.
This motivation is not gained over time from being lackadaisical, my advanced physical education teacher once said “being a better athlete takes a dream and motivation,” it’s earned through hard work, and having passion to achieve a greater goal. Motivation can be expressed through the blood, sweat, and tears given to achieve. These expressions are shown within sports but not exactly express within school. Motivation for school is expressed through the work that is completed work and through the grades that are earned from the work that is put in. Without the motivation to complete the assignments that are necessary to earn the grades that will later on transfer to earning a degree in a field of study of my choosing, that will later on allow myself earn money from this field; all because I had, and will still have, the motivation to continue reaching new feats.
One contributing factor towards student success is student motivation. Motivation is reading unassigned books out of class that relate to the class subject matter, just to expand his or her knowledge. The need or want type of actions a persons’ mentality is, to reach a personal goal or objective of some sort. People’s motivational purpose in school can range from, higher earning potential, more job stability, greater benefits, and even just to gain more knowledge. In a YouTube video entitled “The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us” by Dan Pink, he suggests that three elements: purpose, mastery, and autonomy play a part towards true motivation. Autonomy is ones self-drive, while
Finally, emphasis on academic and social “success,” allows those in high school to have a
There are changes that can be made to show students how to succeed after high school. High schools need to do more to prepare students for future careers by requiring more practical classes, teaching skills for future jobs and Careers, and helping students learn how to deal with “real-life” situations. All high schools have required classes that students must take in order to graduate,
Motivation is really important tool in a learning environment. Also motivation effects student learning and their behavior as well. It directs behavior towards particular targets. Also it effect the decision which students takes. In motivation mainly we have two types which is intrinsically and extrinsically being motivated. For example: when a student is intrinsically motivated they just do it for themselves not because of the reward that they will get back. It’s just because they have their own interest and they enjoy doing that. On the other side, when a student is extrinsically motivated they just do it for the reward that they will get. That’s why in learning process it’s important that each student should
Having explained the reason most children have become disheartened at the thought of school, I now turn my attention to the students who do realize school’s educational value. These are the students that will continue to prosper throughout their lives because they realize the extreme importance of education. There is a secret, yet not so secret, motivation behind their determination to exceed standards and expectations in school. The secret they withhold is their overwhelming desire to be successful in the future.
