Researching and discovering new information can expand our understanding of various topics. The Founders Day Project allowed me to acquire a great deal of knowledge on history pertaining to Townsend Harris, the person, and the Townsend Harris High School. It also helped me to discover several things about myself and about teamwork.
To begin with, I always thought that working independently on my own would be more convenient than working in a group with other people. Working independently meant that I was in control of everything. It meant that I didn’t need to ask others for their opinions before making certain changes. However, after working together with my classmates on this project, I realized that the opinions of others can be quite helpful. Their suggestions allowed me to be more open-minded towards making new changes. One change that we all agreed upon was transforming our original PowerPoint presentation into a lovely website. I have to admit, our PowerPoint idea was a bit dull. In addition to good advice, my group divided the workload, making sure that everybody had their own responsibility. I felt more at ease knowing that we were working as a team and depending on one another. As we did more research in class on our topics, I found myself

I was not familiar with the members of my group at first. However, as we got to learn more about each other, working in a group naturally became more enjoyable. I wasn’t fond of the amount of writing that we had to do for our website, but knowing that my group was there to lend a hand to anyone of us who needed help really encouraged me to work hard. Being able to communicate easily with my group was also important when it came to working as a team. I felt that my group and I were able to work together pleasantly to complete this project. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with new people in future group
I believe our group effectively achieved the overall goal by successfully completing the assignment by the deadline. Although we didn’t encounter any conflicts due to different personality, culture or background, they all aroused from different matters. For instance as this was the second time we were all working together as a group with a new member. We had t...
Before then I wanted to do everything by myself from group projects to performing saves, I was a very independent person. I always knew what I wanted and how I wanted to accomplish it. I realized though it is good to be independent, but it is also a very good skill to be able to work together with other people to solve a problem or get a task done. Teamwork is something that is extremely important to understand and to take part in. The rest of the summer my boss stressed the importance of working together through an abundance of in-services and team bonding activities that ended up shaping the way I thought about all situations. I also took from that experience the importance of risk taking. I now look at situations with a what if attitudes and never take the most common or easiest way out of
We all have had individual ideas that we used to support each one of us. We proceeded with the project with an open mind and made every effort to go according to what was discussed before embarking on the task. It could be said that the reason we were successful was that we followed all the sequences as discussed, especially the last one. It was apparent that we were all committed to the success of the team, we were able to motivate each other by engaging all the team members to aim to achieve at the highest level. We all followed open communication to follow the processes in
At the beginning I was really afraid to express my opinion about my team project, but all my team members are really friendly and willing to listen to my opinions. I really had good time while doing this project, as a communicator in my group, I made Google doc to let every member give their own opinions and that is also a good method to discuss our project online. Moreover, I designed the PowerPoint and provided lots of pictures to make our project wonderful. For our presentation, even though I felt so nervous and could not speak well on my presentation, my team members are really nice and encourage me a lot. For the team paper, I divided into four parts to discuss more details about our main points of the topic; at first I thought that it would be difficult to do this part, yet one of my team members used interesting way, Rock-paper-scissors, it is a fair way to do it, and every members are willing to do this. In short, I really enjoyed doing this project and had great time with all of my team
Our group proved to be productive and a bonding experience. We created together, we stressed together, we laughed together, and the group gave itself group “air hugs” when we felt we had done a good job. For the rest of my BASW education I will feel closer to these individuals than I do with the rest of the cohort. Our time together provided us the opportunity to reach greater understandings and appreciations of one another.
It all began when I was in a group of four in my AP U.S. History class. My peers and I would get a lot of work from our teacher and eventually we all figured out that if we were going to keep up with our college classes and our high school classes then we were going to have to work in teams. So, we all decided to split up our work in order to stay on top of our work. The thing was that we could only sit in groups of four and my main friends were already in a group of four, meaning I was going to find another group to sit with. What I didn’t know was that it was going to be a lot easier to just do my work alone.
I always tried my best to be a contribution to the group, not a bother. I gave my best effort in everything that I did, and I hope that everyone could see that I put my all into my work.
Before starting the university my working with others was sometimes effective and sometimes not very effective depending on the people I worked with, on the topic or area we had to work on. In sixth form I got on well with everybody in my class and working with them was not difficult. For example once me and two other students had to make a PowerPoint presentation on smoking. We worked together in planning what information will be included in the PowerPoint and who will write about what, what other materials we will need such as leaflets and who will get them. So before creating the PowerPoint presentation we planned everything together. Once the PowerPoint was created we then decided the number of slides each of us will read and talk about. So here I worked with others effectively and our PowerPoint presentation was successful.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
My co-operative behavior and the agreeable behavior I exhibited contributed to the harmony and the success of the group. The co-operation that was exhibited was relative to prompt arrival to meetings, meeting group deadlines, and thorough participation in the discussions and the forums of the group. While I was indeed co-operative for most of the group sessions, I was not afraid to speak my mind. My strongest writing skills were illustrated with the expression and analysis of the benefits and the drawbacks associated with the group project.
Working in groups is challenging at times. Other times it is very rewarding. We are so focused on life that we do not take time to reflect on things as much as we should. Being in a Groups class has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have begun to question, explore, and even understand how things work. I even get how they work sometimes. Not only is there a process involved in making individual decisions, process is involved in group decisions as well. This paper attempts give insight into my reflection of my group decision process.
When I am feeling good and working on something that I know how to do with confidence then I will tend to want to work on my own. The reason for that position is to help ensure that others don’t get to rock the boat or get in the way of having something done with confidence and lower stress. I would always prefer to work in a group or team environment because this is how the real world functions, and it provides a very effective way to draw on the strengths and talents of the other team members to have a better end product. The well working and properly functioning team environment also allows for a potentially less stressful environment by everyone working together with various talents and skills that can be contributed to the betterment of the project. This model also allows for the team members to help move the project along by brainstorming ideas and input from all members when a glitch or unforeseen problem presents its self and could have a negative impact on the outcome of the project.
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
Many times people forget that teamwork is a combination of the words TEAM and WORK. Which means it takes more than a combined group of people or a team, but it takes that and actions. Positivity, effective skills and effort from each group member. A good team member does their share of work in the group. equity and fairness are key in being a good team member also. A few other characteristics that help a group be successful are , positivity, complimenting other members, communication skills and fairness. By fairness I mean allowing everyone the chance to do something. This group project taught me the ability to be a team player. This is a skill needed to be successful in a group. I feel like it benefit me and my group members because normally
In conclusion, I really did enjoy the this group project. We had great group chemistry, an interesting topic, an effective and consistent preparation period. That sounds like a formula to a successful group project to me. This is probably the most enjoyable group work experience for me at Augustana so far. If I could, I would do it
