Describe what happens in each of the five project management process groups (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing). Initiating a process is where the project begins. The tasks that are part of the initiation process are to identify and understand the project stakeholders, creating the project charter and holding a kick-off meeting. The project stakeholders are usually the project sponsor, the project team, the support staff and the internal customers. The project charter is a document that formally recognizes the existence of a project and provides a summary of the projects objectives and management. Why? The executing process is where the real work of the project is done. However, planning is also an important key to the executing process. With correct and well thought out, planning the executing process will run smoothly and can finish on time or ahead of time. The executing process is where the real work of the project is done.
