Now we're in a pickle! Should students be allowed to use their phones during school hours? Cell phones are one of the most important thing's people use today. Cell phones are stuck to people like glue. In the U.S. today, billions of people have cell phones. People take their phones everywhere and stay on them all the time except for at school. Kids are very upset that they can not get on their phones at school. Teachers and administrators believe students should not be allowed to get on their phones at school, but some people would disagree. Students should not be allowed to get on their phones during school hours. The first reason why students should not be allowed to get on their phones during school hours is because phones are very distracting. Phones cause many distractions. For example, if a kids phone kept going off in class it would distract him from learning the material the teacher was teaching. It could also distract the teacher because the phone which would keep making noises and it would distract the teacher from teaching. Also, if a kid was talking on their phone during class, …show more content…
Phones allow kids to cheat in many different ways. On a cell phone people can look up the answers to a test. For example, you are taking a test and you do not know the answer to a question. Your teacher already allows kids to get on their phones, so they can easily Google the question, and it will tell you the answer. Also, you could just text your fellow class and ask them for the answers to the test. If a teacher was to ask what you are doing you could just say you are texting your parents. You could also use your phone for calculator to cheat on a math test after the teacher said not to use a calculator on the test. This is another reason why you should not be allowed to use your phone at
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
They found that 69 percent of students use phones to write down notes, 64 percent use them to view textbooks online, and 56 percent use them to assist with homework (Nielsen & Webb 70). Students are using cell phones to aid with their education, and schools should be doing the same. Students and teachers most often agree with this statement. Cell phones are a source for communications and social networking, both of which cause students to get off task. Though cell phones are distracting, high schools have several options that limit the inappropriate use of cell phones in class.
Do you think phones should be used during school hours? Students may use their phones in appropriately during school. They would get distracted or they would even cheat on test if they were to have access to their phones. Children having access to their phones would be a disaster waiting to happen because there are some students who would use the opportunity unresponsively in and around school. Students should not be allowed to have access to their phones during school hours.
Cellphones can be used to aid in studying; they could provide much needed assistance during a midnight study session in which a student may need to remember massive amounts of information for an upcoming test. A cellphone which can be used to help a student study can also be used to help a student cheat very easily since the correct information can be saved on the phone, or it can also be located very easily on the internet. Although many schools have placed a campus-wide ban on cellphones, students have the skills necessary to surreptitiously use them to their advantage. A case such as this has been documented in New York where a group of seventy students participated in the sharing of text messages that included photos of test pages. In Long Island, s...
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones attract the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves with a sense of security. By permitting the use of cellphones in school, students can increase their knowledge and complete school work by using applications and other features on their smartphones.
One reason to allow cell phones in school is that cell phones can help students use it for educational resources. It first allows kids to use it for checking certain facts and explaining and deliberating on details. It helps students take photos to illustrate their work and presentations. Here are some ways it helps students for educational purposes, Andrea Leyden from the article,
Electronics are a huge part of our society. “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones” (Wang). Over thousands of these cell phones are owned by students K-12. A major debate topic is should cell phones be allowed in schools? “Twenty-four percent of schools have banned mobile devices altogether and sixty-two percent allow them on school grounds, but not in the classroom” (Raths). Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it will create more drama, and it promotes cheating.
However, many teachers are seeking the benefits in cell phones and incorporating them into lessons and learning activities. The bring your own technology program a school created is encouraging students to bring their own smart phones, electronic tablets, and other devices to class to enhance their learning. Most cell phone bans were put in place over 10 years ago when they were first new to children and adults all around the world. There are many educational apps out there for students and teachers alike. People against cell phones being allowed in school may argue that students would be doing inappropriate things during class, however, to ensure that cell phones are used only for educational purposes, students could connect through the district’s network to limit exposure to harmful
One reason to consider the introduction of cell phones in learning is to promote digital etiquette, a concept that is foreign to most people. According to Liz Kolb (the author of “Toys to Tools”) Digital etiquette is “a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you.” Kolb says in her book that “an educator’s job is to help students navigate and stay safe in their media world”. Students often are unaware to the consequences of their use and misuse of technology. Currently, many students do not overthink about protecting their own privacy. For example 55% of students do not care whether the digital material they use is copyrighted. Students ages 10 to 17 often do not take in appropriate cell phone use. According to Kolb “While nine out of ten 10- to 17- year olds believe that they are courteous on their cell phones, 52% admit to sending text messages at the movie theater, while 28% admit to sending texts at the dinner table.” These statistics show that teens are unaware with cell pho...
Just the thought of a a message or text on your phone screen can make you have the urge to look at it or take your time and reply back even if you were still in class causing damage and harm to the teaching environment. This issue of letting students have cellphones in class is a very big argument on both sides leading to many schools starting to give up and trying out new methods with cell phones. One after another schools are falling to the hands of cellphones. Although cell phones may give parents access to contact their child, schools should still ban cell phones in school because they cause major distractions to students that are using them, ruin the teaching environments the teachers has set up, and it may even distract other students. Having cellphones in school may cause major distractions.
The first reason to support that mobile phones should be banned in schools is that devices can be used to cheating for instance, text friends about answers during a test, take picture of test questions with mobile phones to send to friends, search the internet to answers during a test, and store information on mobile phones to look at during a test. It is suggested by Benenson Strategy Group (2008) indicated that 65 per c...
Should students be allowed to have smart phones in school? We all know that mobile technology has come a long way, compared to years ago, where the only thing phones could do was make a simple phone call and back then, which was the most amazing experience for people to be able to speak to someone through a mobile device. With technology now in the 21st century, cell phones have turned into smart phones, which are basically miniature, portable computers in the grasp of your palm. Increase of technology is never a negative thing in today’s world; it has created many opportunities and is continuing to grow more and more each day. Technology has created the ability to master the creation of smart phones. But should students be allowed to have smart phones in schools? This issue has been the center of debates across many school districts all over the country.
First of all, students absolutely should not be permitted to use cell phones during school hours because it is a distraction to other students. This is an issue that plays a huge role on student’s lives because it takes away from their academic education. The s...
